When this TV show first came out, the writers said that the character of Vinnie Terranova would have a crisis of conscience because of the criminal worlds he would be involved in. Once they introduced Vinnie's mom, however, I knew that he would always be the good guy. Carlotta Terranova, played by Elsa Raven, had such a strong moral character and that helped keep Vinnie's moral code in check. Her character would have needed to be more like Tony Soprano's mom for Vinnie to get truly messed up about good vs. evil.

I'm very sad that Mrs Elsa Raven is no longer with us. I've always been a huge Wiseguy fan ever since the show first aired in the late 80s in France and I used to identify Mrs Raven as some sort of imaginary grandmother figure. Call me cheesy if you want, but this scene brings tears to my eyes. Her beaming smile of pride for Vinnie at 1:14 and when she says "I have two sons again!" are the kind of support I wish I had had when I grew up. May you rest in heaven, Mrs Raven, and thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.

I don't remember who wrote this episode, but if he/she/they didn't win an Emmy for it he/she/they SHOULD have! This is not only one of the most touching and beautiful moments of the series, but in television history in general! It's a shame things turned out so that the series had to end one season after Ken Wahl had to leave it. I'm not sure if WISEGUY could or should be revived be revived; sure, the basic plotline and storylines "ripped from the pages of today's headlines" could work, but acting styles have changed since WISEGUY's day and I find it difficult to believe that an ensemble cast could be found today to match the one from the original series.

First time I watched this I cried as my heart fluttered. Amazing he didn't go on to bigger better things. I think I heard somewhere that he had been in an accident that basically ended his career. So sexy, I can barely stand it.

@tonyscheinman3538 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was just the accident; I heard that substance abuse as a result of the accident caused him to miss shooting and become "undependable" (that's why a couple of times different actors became the "undercover agent" for different story arcs) and tanked his budding film career.

@@tonyscheinman3538 Oh well, that is pretty sad then. Substance abuse has caused so much pain for far to many. I suppose all an outsider like me can do is wish the actor well and better choices.

Wiseguy is one of the greatest shows ever. It's far superior to the similar-themed Donnie Brasco movie which I'd found disappointing despite the presence of Al Pacino and Johnny Depp. If Wiseguy had been made as a series of feature films, it would've been something on a par with Michael Mann's Miami Vice from 2006.

I don't think WISEGUY would have worked as a series of feature films. The slow build-up from episode to episode leading up to the climax of the arc was one of the reasons (in my opinion) the show was so riveting; each episode's ending left the viewer just aching to see what would happen next, which is something a feature film can't always do. I personally have been very disappointed in most of the feature films based on TV series (MIAMI VICE, THE FUGITIVE, 21 JUMP STREET and THE A-TEAM to name only a few); the writing for the TV episodes was always far superior to the feature film screenplays, and don't even get me STARTED on the acting or directing!

@@tonyscheinman3538 I understand your point. A TV series format indeed allows for more development of the characters and tension. But who knows? With the right director and cast, maybe a good Wiseguy movie adaptation could be made. I enjoyed the Miami Vice movie very much, being true to the original series yet with its own style/identity, which is what I expect from an adaptation/remake. On the other hand, the A-Team movie was a mess. Even Liam Neeson himself publicly stated that he couldn't understand the plot after watching it!

@@wackojim It's also a question of the writing. Stephen J. Cannell (who not only created the show but also was one of the three writers of this episode) had a style that I don't believe many film screenwriters could match.
