WISETON: Bassetlaw Parish #9 of 66

I've got a little thing going with the wife at the moment. Every time I upload a short video, one that's in a parish that's really small, we always have a little debate about how much it attention it's going to get compared to the larger ones. More often than not, the small ones do very well, even though you wouldn't expect them to!
So this is perhaps the smallest parish I've done so far. It's certainly the least populous, with less than 100 people living here (there's no accurate population information for this one, because the census records the population here as part of Clayworth). In theory then, this should be a cracker, right?
Actually it may well be. Despite this being tiny, there's loads to see. You've got the Hall and Stables that dominate the village, both drenched in history, and then you've got the Chesterfield Canal with it's cute little brick bridges and a walk down the Cuckoo Way. A village cricket club only adds to the charm of this tiny English village.
If that's not enough, then Drakeholes Depot has won awards in the past, and not just any old awards either - the prestigious Green Flag award for environmental standards.
It may be tiny, but fill your boots with the glorious English countryside as TVI visits WISETON.

A lot of canal bridges were numbered after the canals were nationalised in 1947. This made it easier for the government to keep track of them, dispatch work crews, etc. because a lot of bridges either didn't have names or had multiple local names.

I remember summer days and staying over at the hall in the 1970 when The Hinckleys owned it and they would then visit our gardens at Clayworth

My parents lived in Laurel cottage for many years. It is one of a pair of cottages that you walk past.
