Hey I love your video! Quick question do you seal with resin after it drys ? Or do you seal with the other 2 products you mention? And if you seal with the spay sealant will it be durable and can I just do that or do I have to still do the resin after to seal all the way ?

Jane, I love your approach and matter of fact style. I tried the embossing technique with a broad band of gold powder across the center of a hexagonal tile. When I sprayed the UV sealant you recommended after letting the tile fully dry, the emobossing crackled. Have you actually tried sealing embossed tiles with the spray? I don’t think the tile can be used now as a coaster.

Great video. I emboss on paper all the time, but I didn't know you could emboss on tiles. One note, from everything I've ever heard, you do NOT want to use alcohol to clean your stamps. From my understanding, that will degrade the material the stamp is made out of. You can use a non-alcohol baby wipe (that's what I use all the time), simple soap and water (allow to thoroughly dry before putting them away), or there are various stamp cleaners available on the market that are not harmful to the stamps. Sometimes stamps do stain, but that doesn't affect the quality of future stamping.

Great video Jane! I've been working with alcohol ink for about 5 years and never thought about using embossing. Have to get it. One question, when you put tape on the corners for adding the embossing powder, would the tape pull off the ink? Is it better to seal it first? Embossing is very new to me. Thanks again. For anyone reading the comments... u am a card maker and there was some confusion when jane was explainging.. the Wagner gun is a heat tool ... same as any other heat tool just gets hotter quicker it is not for embossing but for many jobs. Also the wispy affect works best with a hair dryer with air pushing the ink around not necessarily heat. Take everything with a grain of salt and dont run out and buy anything you think you need. A blow dryer on the other hand will not work for embossing because it does not heat up enough and still just blow your embossing powder around. If anyone is looking for a host gun there are many options cheaper than the wagner. Hope this helps. And when you do use a blow-dryer you always start on the outside puddle of the ink and blow around you don't blow air on the ink and you don't go in the middle of it start on the outside
@JaneMonteith
@JaneMonteith 5 жыл бұрын
Alex serra Thanks for your comments. :-). I only suggest what I’ve found works best fo me. I can’t stand the hair dryer method. I’ve had poor results with it, but that’s just me. And, yes someone already mentioned how to clean stamps so thanks for that. :-)

Yeah, I kept looking at the heat gun, and kept saying wait a minute, this is the exact same one I have and because of such a high heat 650 degrees, it is not for heat embossing normally, unless you are very careful. I went to find this embossing tool on the link, and thought wait this is the same exact heat tool I have. This IS A HEAT TOOL, NOT A SPECIFIC EMBOSSING TOOL. Also I have tried this with my Tim Holtz small heating tool (more for embossing, but will take longer), and my blow drying, and as long as I have my blow dryer on the low setting, it works much much better. Also I found with the blow drying if you point it straight down on the tile and not at an angle the effect is much better. I will point out though, that I do mix many colors and alcohol before applying the heat which may have something to do with it. I do love this video, and have learned quite a lot. Now I want to see if I can use my Tim Holtz stamp platform using this same technique. Great Video, Thank you!

Linda Renner great! Thanks for the info. I’ve found kamar to be the best overall sealer based on the brand of inks a person is using. I’ve never had any issue with jacquard. But ranger inks will run more and actually change colour with other sprays. Thanks for watching :-)

@JaneMonteith
@JaneMonteith 5 жыл бұрын
Linda Renner oh you have try them. They are more expensive but worth the money. They are highly saturated and vibrant. They have a limited colour palette but it’s for lightfast reasons so will not fade like other brands do. 💕
@theresafugate1528
@theresafugate1528 5 жыл бұрын
I have also noticed, since I use both inks the Ranger and the Jaquard, that the Ranger ones tend to drip and splash as soon as you tip the bottle to let any of the ink out. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but I never have that issue with the Jaquard brand, but yes, I only have the exciter pack of the Jaquard, and found lately if I want the rest of the colors I think like an additional 8 or 9 colors, they are 79.00 on Amazon, at least the last time I looked. The exciter pack which contain 9 inks are 18.99 or less on Amazon. I don't understand why the other remaining colors are so expensive, but I can't afford them, and I have so many of the Ranger bottles to use up, it will be years before I have to replace them. 1 other thing I noticed with the Ranger inks, is the caps get very stuck to the bottles, even after spending hours cleaning around the rim of the bottle and inside of the caps, they really get so tight, I have to run them under hot water to loosen them up. I do love Ranger and Tim Holtz, but after trying these 2 inks, I do prefer the Jaquard ones.
@theresafugate1528
@theresafugate1528 5 жыл бұрын
Well that explains why I have ruined so many of my tiles before I got the Jaquard. I didn't realize it was the sealer with the Ranger inks which made them change colors. Of course I have only had my Jaquard exciter pack about 3 months now, and have just used them on yupo paper so I don't seal them at all.

Alex Serra You are absolutely right,some of this information is confusing,and especially people who are interested in the wispy technique should watch other videos,because this IS NOT the wispy technique/effect. It could be called the layered effect, but layered is not wispy,that’s completely wrong information. Wispy is done with a blow dryer the best., and the purpose is that the edges fade, they became very airy,smoky.the thick part is in the middle. It’s a beautiful effect,has to be practiced. Also the wispy is done on paper not on tile. Some people would use maybe an airbrush or straw,but that’s hard to continuously blow . The hairdryer is the best,and there are several videos you can watch how the wispy technique is done. But this is definitely not it,and it’s not right people to be misled
@JaneMonteith
@JaneMonteith 5 жыл бұрын
Judith F I’m merely offering my opinion. It doesn’t mean it’s the the only tool to use . Just do what works for you. Personally I can’t stand to use a hairdryer and I don’t get the same results. So I opt for an embossing tool. It’s all personal preference.
@judithf9297
@judithf9297 5 жыл бұрын
Jane Monteith Absolutely no offense to you,but this is not just your opinion.You call this wispy when that’s a completely different thing. You say you’re doing embossing and that’s right,thats what you doing.But that has nothing to do with the wispy alcohol ink technique ,that’s done on paper,mostly Yupo,and looks completely different. Maybe you should check out how it looks,there are plenty if videos
@JaneMonteith
@JaneMonteith 5 жыл бұрын
Judith F I’m not offended in the least. I had no idea there is/was another name out there called wispy. I dubbed “wispy” technique for my own method and for this video. Lol. I shared lots of alcohol ink videos. Thanks for watching anyway. 👍🏼

@@judithf9297 Actually, the 'wispy' technique can be done on tiles. I would suggest larger tiles to get the full effect tho (at least 12x12"). That size could be used as a hot plate, or it could be framed. I've done AI and embossing on tiles for several yrs now, and I teach stamping and card making. I've also done AI on glass, covered it with white cardstock, flipped it over and framed it. Creates a really cool look, and it protects the ink without having to seal it. Cheapest way to do it is to just buy a standard size ready made frame (minimum 11x14"), do the ink on the glass, put some white card stock on it, flip it and stick it back in the frame! (I'm also a custom framer.)

I've used alcohol to clean some of my rubber stamps for years. I've even cleaned them with AI blending solution. With either one, I always scrub and wash them with dish soap and water. I use permanent inks a lot (mainly black), but if I want to use a different colored permanent ink, the remaining black ink stain does make a difference in the color. I can't go from black to red without completely cleaning the stamp because I'll get a darker shade than I want. You definitely should not use alcohol to clean clear stamps tho. They will get ruined immediately.
