The difference is insane with these changes! It makes me wonder if any of these will be implemented in official patches to make the game look nicer. From what I know the game shipped on build 3.2, but the 3.4 update cleans up the visuals quite a bit compared to what shipped.

What do u expect from an outdated mobile hardware If they could they would do just that but surely there's a reason why most of AAA games on the switch are blurry and it's probably because of the SoC architecture and technology that's packed in it. I can't say since im not really a pro tech guy but that seems like the most logical thing to consider if u think about it. Its either remaking the game from the scratch for mobile wchich would cost them milions of dollars or makes it look like shitto to make it just run on this hardware

Yep, just let us put a little bit of sharpening on it and disable AA, the net performance shouldn't change. The max setting here is a little overboard since it sharpens the edges too much and gives everything a bit of a black outline, but just a little would go a long way. As it stands I'm having a blast with it either way

I first bought this game on the PS4 back in 2015, I played through it 4 times, twice without and twice with the DLC's. I then bought it on PC when I finally was able to get one, played through it again. I will be purchasing it on the Switch as well since I would love to play it on the go when I end up going on a vacation or some road trip with my girlfriend. I love The Witcher 3. Still the best western style Open World RPG I've played to date.

@@cameronweston1038 you can't run it at 60 without a charger, since the max GPU frequency would be only half of what it can be with the official charger plugged in. If you really want to play 60 on the go what you can do is plug a powerbank into the switch, which will allow you a higher GPU frequency (still not the max, but enough to stay around 60 at 360p).

The problem is that texture and asset quality in general is much lower because they needed to fit the game in the 32 GB cartdridge, so even if you overclock your switch, you still can't get anything more than that.

Sure, they don't have the best graphics or framerate, but Nintendo games sure are fun. The only problem is Third-Party games don't utilize the consoles' features as much, the Switch is already at a great place in which it is a home console and a portable console with controllers that not only are mainly used in the traditional, classic, controller way, but can be used in ways akin to the Wiimote and Nunchucks. I'd rather have a unique console with special features over a console whose main strong point is just better hardware, graphics and framerate

Depends on the price point Nintendo is willing to go with a Pro version. If the Base Switch cost 300, wouldn't be surprised if the Pro cost 400, but at that price range they can easily use a better GPU paired with an ARM processor. The issue is backwards compatibility from leaving the Tegra line.

It's quite likely, as you point out, that this port has been made with scalability in mind. Even if CDPR/Saber are unaware of any hardware improvements, they are still looking to the future, and have allowed the game to absorb any extra power it can get. A nice port.

I think if The Nintendo Switch Pro decided to use the better Nvidia Tegra Xavier chip, they might be able to achieve 720p@60 FPS in portable mode, and look pretty good (better than the modded one as shown in the video). I read Xavier has 10 W, 15W, and 30W variants so Nintendo could choose there. I could see them picking the 30W one with the better CPU and GPU speeds, but cap it at the lower 15W while in portable mode. If they decided to go even HIGHER and use the Nvidia Tegra Orin chip (that was announced in December 2019), they could get even better performance. While I read it said the Orin had a TDP of 65 Watts, that's most likely running full power at the max GHz speed. It most likely would be heavily downclocked but with 12 CPU cores (at a better GHz than the Switch) and better GPU MHz, I could see a Switch Pro (or a Switch 2) be able to play games with very good quality, and probably use less than 30 Watts. Just they BETTER increase the Switch Pro's battery up to at LEAST 10,000 mAh (which will offset some extra power usage) and really help against the Switch's bad battery time.

Yeah but even with a10.000mah battery the battery life at 30W will still be only 1h of battery life... The old model uses 6w portable... 30W would divide battery life by 5... so only 25 minutes with a 5000mah battery and around 50minutes with a 10.000mah battery... That's battery life like a gaming laptop, but not a handheld console. Also a 10.000mah battery will almost double the weight and increase the size of the system 😅

Temp tests have already been done on the overclocked settings,was a different Guy I think don't remember,was a few months ago. Everything was nice and under safe limits so it won't melt. For what it’s worth, if you like the image sharpening but don’t want to mod your Switch, you can buy a digital signal processor / up-scaler like a Marseille mCable or equivalent, which adds contextual image sharpening, anti-aliasing, and up-scaling to the Switch, via post-processing on the video output. It’s not quite as flexible as modding and doesn’t overclock it, requires a second power outlet, and it’s a LOT more expensive too (mCables are still over $100), but it does allow you to keep your console in pristine unmodified state. For anyone that matters to.

I won't ever hack my Switch's for many different reasons, but it's cool to see this is possible. Hopefully for a Pro model somewhere down the line we'll get 60fps Witcher, but right now I'm delighted with virtually locked 30fps :)

Wii, 360 & PS3 days were the best, had them all hacked and never got banned (except on PS3 i did get banned after a 6 year run). I need to buy a Switch to hack & have little interest in online since you have to pay now & im really not into being forced to pay for online because i'm not gaming on a PC

I played it on ps4 for over 300 hours. Picked it up on switch last weekend. Been playing it the entire weekend in handheld mode. I really like it. Visuals are good in compairison to most other switch games.

I'm really astonished how well the cpu is holding up (even more so than graphically). Did the devs make some sort of deal with the Crones to make this possible, or are Cortex A57s a heck of a lot stronger than we give them credit for?

Witcher 3 was never a CPU intensive game it is graphics that are demanding. On Xbox One X the game in 1080p mode runs at 60fps most of time without any modding, overclocking or tweaking settings. Simply dropping the resolution allows for 60fps on the Jaguar CPU thanks to Xbox One X's beefy GPU. Since the graphics are on low and the resolution is at 540p in handheld mode in Switch, I don't think it is that surprising it runs close to 60 fps on overclocked Switch CPU and GPU.

It's actually a bit of both. The developers did a fantastic job here to be clear. Though there is also some truth in the Cortex A57 being more capable than many people think. The GPU side of things is where the PS4 and Xbone have the largest advantage over Switch. But the "Jaguar" CPU used in PS4 and Xbox One is actually fairly crappy and slow. Jaguar is based on the same architecture as AMD's Bulldozer PC CPUs. Bulldozer and its variants were considered a massive performance disappointment among the enthusiast PC market when it released (even slower than 5+ year older Intel chips in some ways). On top of that, Jaguar was also based on even weaker variants of the chips that AMD designed for use in laptops and tablets, not desktop chips. Cortex A57 on the flipside was a quite powerful for a smartphone chip when released. Base PS4 is still substantially faster than an unmodified Switch due to Switch's clock speeds being limited, but an overclocked Switch helps evens the odds a bit. I'll bring up Dolphin emulator in this context given that you can get it to work on both PS4 and Switch via homebrew. Dolphin is somewhat demanding on CPU power while quite lightweight on GPU, the performance difference on a base PS4 vs overclocked Switch is relatively small.

I haven't tried the 60FPS mod (always weary of Overclocking), but I did add the Enhanced Settings mod and the game looks much better. Increasing the Sharpness and turning off Anti-Aliasing take care of the blur issues. Have not run into any issues yet either (no crashes, FR dips, glitches etc)

Although late to this, a new switch with a variable refresh rate display would be great for portable gaming devices like this as making the smoothness and lack of screen tearing on changing framerates would let this type of gameplay worth it.

With this the Switch is the only console that can play The Witcher 3 at 60fps. And with a full overclock and the fan spinning so fast that the entire console vibrates in your hands, it still manages to be quieter than the original PS3 on the home menu
