Witcher 3 - Death March - How to Beat Imlerith Easy

This fight took place at level 23, and I used the proper technique to beat this boss. You can melt his Frost Shield with Igni, I didn't do that because of wasting a sign (no Tawny Owl).
Once you know how to it's easy, just a matter of knowing his moveset and weaknesses.

Protip: don't go back after the conversation. Instead, tell Ciri to wait a bit and loot Imlerith's corpse, it contains an item that grants you 2 ability points.

Here are my tips. Phase 1 is a chees cake, just dodge with quen sign on and attack him once he attacks you. Phase 2 is more tricky... he has 3 patterns in phase 2. The first one is 2 swings then teleport then 3 swings and teleport and the big swing which you need to dodge and this is your only opening to attack him, just keep dodging those attacks and you should be fine and after he finishes one of those patterns just take a step back so he has a later start once he teleports to you. Death March is just such a nice difficulty if you're a dark souls fan.

I’ve been doing death march on ps4 and found out during this fight if you time it right you can sidestep one of his combos before he pops in and out of reality you can score a hit to chip at his health.

Imlerith was, by far, the best boss battle vs the wild hunt in the entire TW3 game. It's challenging and the arena you fight is very fitting/cool, not mentioning the kill cutscene and the fight for vengeance. Eredin's Boss battle ,in the other hand, was very disapointing for the antagonist of the game. He's too weak and there's no dialoge between him and geralt, plus the scenario and kill scene is very bad. To kill Imlerith, just flank him from the left where the shild wont bother you. Keep spaming front dodge and 2 light hits.

What adds to the annoyance is that you're tied in.. ..you're trapped into the scenario. So if he's just beat you in the 2nd (teleport) phase for the bazzillionth time and you want to have a break, maybe go for a game of gwent or bathe your face in forktail acid, tough luck.. i've given up, gone back to an earlier save, i'll try again when i'm lvl200 *playing on hard*

When I did this I was having great difficulty with him when he dropped his shield. I adopted a different tactic and didn't let him drop it. This can be done by running up towards him and attacking him as soon as he is about to drop it, it will force him to take swings at you and immediately dodge out the way and attack from behind. This tactic isn't easy but it is effective and is less risky than letting him teleport all over the place. I also used thunderbolt too to increase my attack power which helps. [spoiler] the good thing is once you have done enough damage a cut scene will happen ending the fight. I found without letting him drop his shield it was much easier but you have to be quick, if he drops it then roll out the way and always keep quen equipped. when you are preventing him from dropping the shield stay close and keep dodging and attacking. It is hard but it is easier.

Not true as it is exactly what I did, unfortunately I didn't take the recording off the ps4 at the time otherwise I'd upload it. You have to be quick. It's the reason why when he is entering the 2nd phase he is far away from you, trick is to get as close as you can and attack. When I do the game again on NG+ I'll upload a video if it is needed.

Beat em last night took me an hour and a few dozen attempts but I got it. Like he demonstrates in the video, the first two thirds of the fight are a breeze provided you know to strike his right as its always open. I performed continuous whirl attacks running the encircle mentioned behind his avatar so I was always striking from behind or his side and I did perfect circles around him. That part was simple to understand. The last one third is a different type of fight putting you entirely on the evasive. Just be patient and get his pattern right and you'll breeze through

I almost gave into easy mode. I am on hard and was level 27. I stopped and slept on it. I was trying to keep cheesing igni or quen (in second stage). No. Just keep dodging and rolling to keep moving. When he gets his mace thing stuck, THEN use quen to gain a buffer (didn't bother with igni after he dropped his shield), one strong attack, or a bomb. You simply don't have time if he's on the attack. Don't stop moving. Be patient and wait till he's stuck.

perhaps i was just over leveled or something because everyone keeps going on about how hard this dude was but i beat him first go and have more trouble with 2-3 wraiths or a bandit camp with archers then i do with this dude. played the entire game on death march and i cant tell if everyone is joking or if his ai was broken for me maybe? he was just so easy and predictable and i don't understand why everyone seems to have so much of an issue with him. Takes a while but as long as you pace your attacks hes easy as hell. like almost every single 1 v 1 fight in the game

1st Part Fast attack 2 times, roll behind him, Fast Attack 2 Times, Roll Behind him use Igin to take away his Frost Armour. 2nd Part Active Quen when you can, try to remain in the middle and always FACE HIM and keep rolling to him when gets stuck attack, he will have his frost armor. Remember remain in the middle of battle ground, if you in the corner it's hard to have room to move around to easily face him and roll.

Nah this guy was way worse than Eredin. Pretty much one shotted that boss, while this guy was a bitch, one fuck up and it could cost you. Prolly didn't help I was playing with the BCEm mod makes it a shit ton harder. Two hits max and you're dead. But the worst part bout this boss is if you die you gotta start from the beginning. Almost made me quit this game because of this boss fight. But then I beat him and never looked back. Just finished B&W nothing compares to this boss. You guys should try the BCEm mod if you're up for a challenge. It's when Death March becomes too easy on normal and NG+ and you wanna try something hard.

I found out that magic trap can be really usefull in phase 1. Keep him in the zone, roll around behind him for criticals. Magic trap makes him react really late

Funnily, the way I managed to beat him was to go full offensive on his ass. Found some tutorials saying that you should use Igni to melt his armor and other stuff, but I only used Quen to avoid some damage, and went swinging my sword left and right ignoring his stupid ice armor. In the second phase, I would roll to avoid his initial attack, then go and hit him 2-3 times, before rolling again to avoid his next teleport. Managed to beat him in less than 2 min like this.

He's cake on even the hardest setting. After watching your video and realizing that I was spamming dodge TOO much. Honestly if you just wait for him to materialize near you then press the dodge he'll miss you almost every time. Spamming seems to allow him to teleport to you within range as you're coming out of a dodge and before you can start another. Button mashing dodge less made this the easiest boss fight in the game after I initially struggled 5 or 6 times.

+Solomon Grundy You don't need to button mash at all. He has the same attack, it's literally the same repetition over and over again: Teleport, 3 Mace swings, Teleport, 3 mace swings, Teleport, Crushing blow and out of breath. It is a very easy boss, there are no random attacks. He also always teleports behind you, so you always roll towards him after each of his attack.

DON'T attempt to dodge or roll in the second phase. Literally just run like a wuss away from him while he teleports. Whenever he gets stuck, do fast attacks. Rinse and Repeat.

He is really hard with a lv 26 caster build. Igni does like zero damage so I was left with Yrden as dmg source. With poor damage mitigation from a caster build combined with heavy movement during the hard part of the fight my OP caster build (up until now) literally sucked. I had to respec swordsman/alchemy build to get him down (in caster armor since my swordsman armor was left home). The damage mitigation from fleet footed combined with a lot more melee damage in phase 2 made it a faceroll after that - guided by this video. Thx.

Easy :) First phase - dodge-in, 2-3 hits, dodge-out. Second phase, roll-out when he's blinking, roll-in when he's exhausted and 2-3 hits. Whenever he's guarded by frozen armor use Igni.

I actually find that his teleport attacks are the only chances to hit him I have Feline Gear, Tawny Owl, on a Quen build on NG+ Deathmarch lvl 80, but if i don't dodge one attack, or fuck it up somehow, one hit of his mace kills me instantly, only Quen can save me but I barely have enough Stamina to have a constant shield on. So my method is teleport, dodge, hit, hit, dodge, Quen, repeat. This works until he drops his shield, cause then he gets mad and I can't dodge him fast enough to not get hit So I've been trying for 3 hours now and I breaked my controller so I had to quit the game for today

This boss is driving me crazy. I'm lvl 27 on PC. He frosts really quickly and teleports from the get go. Takes me out so quickly! He's also difficult to dodge or sidestep. And as an aside, if the cursor wanders (windowed game as it displays better for me) the game closes or pauses. Grrr.

I found the easiest way to beat him is to do all the other side quests first and buff your self up. When I faced him I had already done the man of mirrors dlc and got the sword at the end of the game. I approached him at level 40 or there abouts and pretty much took him out in five swings of my sword lol

I was playing this on death march, all going well, slow and steady at first, bait him to attack dodge then land a couple strikes. The battle proceeds on, i'm concerned he isn't taking much damage even though i'm level 29 but its all good he seems slow enough. Suddenly he throws the shield and begins wildly teleporting around me swinging his mace out of control and i'm fucking dead in the blink of an eye lol. I'll just try again tomorrow, I already beat the game once (not on DM) wanted to watch this vid first so I could remember the combo so I don't die anymore and have to sit through the massive loading screen.

you sure this is death march? The sucker recovers immediately after 1 hit after he is tired whereas you seem to be able to land 3 hits. I have the attack perk tree fyi.

elleshar666 Death March does not change how the AI reacts. In every game, all programmers do is crank up the values for HP and damage when you change difficulty. I have never played at any easier difficulty, but I am sure he stunlocks too (unless they changed it with a patch). I don't understand why people doubt that this is death march. This game isn't challenging at all, even on hard, that is why I never bothered to finish it. The AI can be glitched or predicted (see botchling fight or this fight) and there is nothing challenging or replayable about the bosses or the game. I guess that's the reason why I never bothered to complete it.

Unfortunately many of the fights in this battle follow that same pattern. Quen hit hit sidestep. Works on just about every enemy in the game. Also bad form cutting out where you got hit and needed to use the swallow. I almost missed the reason you cut the video until I looked at your hp and your potions.

+Gajana Aslanjan you should be able to do the "question mark" quests on the map. They will get you a lot of good gear. You should also get every possible quest from the boards on the map (Exclamation points) as they will allow you to level. Beating this boss overlevelled is seriously not hard.

Or you can just spin to win him to death, even on death march, if you don't want to hit him for 8 minutes. This is not Dark Souls...

propa gandhi Didn't think there was a spin2win weapon or moveset in the game, wasn't aware of it at all. I just knew fast/slow attacks and dodging with ALT or rolling with spacebar.

found a bug, towards his 2nd phase, start zerging him and dont stop, he wont have a chance to jump back and drop his shield and will lose all his defenses in the process allowing you an easy win and skipping the 2nd phase!

if you roll away, the regeneration stops, he just walks sideways like a crab, so it regenarates faster

+Casey Hahn I'm playing on ng+ death march, apparently the game is glitched for me as when I fight the crones with ciri her health doesn't regenerate and they can kill me with 4-5 hits only. This is really pissing me off

Hes hard because he is cheating. His movement defies all logic and sense. I get that he can teleport, but it's one single aspect that completely breaks the fight making it damn near impossible to get on the first try. So the fight breaks down to simply doing it enough times so that you memorize his moves, which is horrible boss design. This main issue i speak of is how his ''recoil'' and teleport behave. When he slashes around, he swings around slowly making it possible to predict where his weapon will NOT be in the very immediate future. When he teleports however, his swing is reset and his weapon is brought to a position where he can swing immediately. Which makes the boss nothing but cheap, boring and repetitive.

+Andrwei Joghansan Basically, what you're saying with that argument is that the Souls saga has terrible bosses. The fun thing about a powerful enemy that you haven't faced before is that you don't know what to expect from him. Geez, it's a boss, not a fucking halberdier.
