Although tedious, I love that in TW1 you could stack potion effects by strategically meditating for a certain time at a campfire to lower toxicity, chug another potion, meditate again etc. You ended up with ALL the effects (although for a shorter duration). Before bossfights it was my go-to ritual to be as prepared as possible. That and being constantly drunk for a slight damage buff :)

I don't know how the creator of FCR was capable of making such a good improvement. Although alchemy may seem like "find the recipes, grind resourses, make potions" it is indeed really deep. I think it is the only existing game with alchemy where you can modify the recipes yourself to get the same potion. Though it would be very cool if in the remake they added some side effect gimmick depending on what herbs you use. Like, at least if instead of just Rubedo, you used a herb with both Rubedo and Albedo, it gave some unique effects to the potion

I'm a big fan of the camp feature in Baldur's Gate 3, and I'd love to see something similar implemented into the Witcher games. Essentially, you can use camp supplies to set up camp pretty much anywhere, and while in camp you can talk to your traveling companions (if there are any), repair your gear, and brew potions. These menial tasks could be done manually, and automatically. I just think it fits the life of a Witcher so well. The vagrant riding the long, empty roads, miles from any civilization, having to make do with what they have until they reach the nearest inn. My favorite parts of the books were the stories of the long journeys Geralt and his friends went on, the struggles, from the basic need of food, to where they could sleep, to being wary of the raging war, bandits, or monsters. I always felt the Witcher games have been a bit too fast-paced in this regard. No need to eat, sleep, and brewing potions was done instantly by just pressing a few buttons without any immersive animations. It just doesn't do a good job at creating the Witcher lifestyle experience, in my opinion. I think skipping all of this should be completely viable, but I do think it should come with some consequences. Like, if you're using quick repair kits like in Witcher 3, instead of setting up camp and doing it properly, maybe you're missing out on a damage or durability buff. Same thing for potions, maybe you can make more of them in camp, as compared to quick and dirty, on the path.

That would be cool, doing the whole camp aspect with Witcher.

These are basically extra, unnecessary options for the player that consume development time, but it's always nice to have more options in the game... I need more options like edible items giving you stamina bonus etc, kinda like they did in B&W with Corvo Bianco - bed, stables.. or em.. Reginald statue. I've always been torn about the original Witcher 1 game because it's quite "clunky" and "dated" in its graphics and mechanics but there's also a certain "charm" that games like this from that era hold for 90s and early 2000s kids whose initial introduction to gaming was with games of that nature. The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) games hold a similar appeal. It would be interesting to see how the dialog changes in the remake because a lot of it felt like a poorly-rehearsed script in comparison with the more "cinematic" feel of the dialog in Witcher 3.

I like that you can stack bonus effects by choosing your ingredients right, and I REALLY like that you have to actually always have the ingredients to make a potion. It just feels cheaty to have infinite, instant restocks of everything. And the auto-restock makes all the alchemy drops and herbs useless - they should either be worth enough to sell or scarce enough to make finding them an active effort, imo. It's one of those games that as a more modern gamer (although even for the time it was a bit outdated) the learning curve can be a little frustrating. Even replaying the final boss fight for this recording was like walking over glass. The mutants just spam you with bleeding so you can't move and the movement into future phases of the fight feels arbitrary. You basically have to spam potions then sit in a corner spamming igni just to not instantly die. It is still a really fun game with a very gritty and interesting setting but some areas have aged poorly.

Sooo I have a pretty controversial opinion right there... They should TURN OFF the MINI MAP on default and only make it an option. This greatly enhances the immersion and makes the places much more memorable. On the smaller maps of the Witcher 1 it is possible to navigate doing this most of the time. e.g. Some Quests don't tell you where to go but the majority of places can be found by just walking around and talking to people(at least in the first two acts as I'm playing the original right now) If you get lost a quick look in the map makes you instantly know where to go next. The combat system is fiddely and they should definitely create a new one. The only thing that I want them to keep is the impact of alchemy. I really liked brewing potions in preperation of fights and you got used to it quickly. In contrast in my two playthroughs of the Witcher 3 I hardly ever used alchemy because it wasn't ever needed. A reason for that could be the skill that health regeneration lasts for insane amounts of time. But for making potions you have to meditate. Especially in Vyzima(idk how to spell that) there aren't enough spots to do that. Because of that I would like to meditate anywhere. If the devs don't want to risk loosing the immersion you could forbid to meditate outdoors. A personal point: I really like the uniquely looking water shader in the game which, at least for me, made the game instantly recognizable. It wasn't too unrealistic and it had a personal touch. They could also remove some of the unnessecary walking back and forth between some characters and of course they will fix some dialogue that doesn't make sense when experienced in the wrong way. I think they should definitely remove the trading card like images and overhaul some dialogues of getting there. That wraps up my collection of unrealistic wishes for the remake. Thanks for reading until the end.

If they are remaking The Witcher 1, I’m pretty sure they’ll remake The Witcher 2 because it just makes sense: you want continuity in graphics and gameplay. TW3 is wildly popular and CDPR will most likely want the first two games to mesh with TW3 and TW4 so that it’s cohesive. It makes no sense to remake one older game and not the others. I’ve not played the first two: I’d certainly buy the remakes though. As for decisions made in one game going into the next… that’s one feature I love about Mass Effect: it feels like the world you’re in continues from one game to the next. Maybe the decisions don’t matter in a galactic sense but choosing between Alenko and Williams makes a difference because one or the other is out for the rest of the series, as an example. I think it would be great for a decision in TW1 to be felt in TW3 as well, rather than each game resetting everything and nothing you do matters.

BG 3 better then witcher 3...OH HELL NO. Would love to play witcher I but digging into the old game with those graphics and outdated stuff...this could be a perfect remake to dig into it. I agree with most you say but I do love a realistic gameplay (especially for the witcher) where you have this complexity of mixing all these ingredients (and need to find them or go on a quest to find this organ, blood of a ghoul or whatever) and brewing potions and were you get sick from toxicity etc. It's super cool and what makes the witcher the witcher and not just a dude with a sword. Also makes the world more believable especially in a gritty rough world like this one. What you don't want to "deal" with is an integral part of the world i feel like.

I mean... it is better. Speaking as someone who considers TW3 one of the best games ever made and has put a combined almost 1400 hours into both games, BG3 IS, in fact, significantly better in terms of gameplay and narrative agency, slightly better in terms of acting, and comparable in terms of dialogue, while being easily six to seven times the size. TW3 has a better overall plot, sure. If they were movies, TW3 would win, hands down. But as games? BG3 definitely wins out.
@epilisium6 ай бұрын
@@BlackShardStudio BG3 doesn't have comparable dialogue lol. It is much worse than Wither 3's dialogue and it really isn't 6-7 times the size of Witcher 3. It is a big game sure, a lot of its size comes from its turn based combat which is slower and far more time consuming. But yes you do have more agency which is expected since it is a crpg and not an ARPG.

@@BlackShardStudio Narrative wise, the only thing bg3 has over TW3 is the depth of companion quests. The overall narrative and plot is a basic dnd story. BG3 does have better gameplay, and better, or rather just more, player agency. Both games are spectacular, one is almost 10 years older though
@toondemaere30806 ай бұрын
@@BlackShardStudio Very debatble, BG 3 fulfills another type of fantasy then TW3 does and is a world that appeals to me more. Gameplay wise is also very different, BG is turned based DnD combat, TW3 is a hack and slash 3rd person view. BG 3 is a very good game and a dream for all the DnD nerds come true... but i don't call it a masterpiece, maybe partialy because i don't really like DnD combat as much because it's more luck based (dice) and not so much reflex/skilled based. I mean i can trust my pro gaming reflexes, i can't trust a die. Is the Witcher 3 perfect...no, i recently went for the platinum and i could point out some things that could be better. It's clunky at times, combat is not the best but not as bad as people say, some potions/decoctions have no good usses, toxicity build is op, but i still love it so much. The story is masterfull, the charachters are wonderful, the world is gorgeous, soo much content, it makes you feel like a monster slayer. You could say my relationship with TW3 is like a good marriage, you see the flaws but you love it all the same and if this game was already so good i think Polaris could be the absolute best of the best. Think about it TW3 with modern consoles and tight, fast combat and gameplay. With a witcher that can take fall damage and jump...

I'm a simple man. I just want the story and characters of the first game, using the third game's engine (or newer) and the third game's mechanics. The first two witcher games have good stories and are "good" games, they're just old and janky as hell.
@WanderfalkeAT5 ай бұрын
Honestly, the RED Engine was quite great for W3 especially the Next Gen Version. And if they go Woke in the process they may lose 90% of their customers. Changing the Engine also means replacing a lot of great RED Engine people. And that worries me as well. Loved what they created so far. I don't need photoreal when playing a Fantasy RPG. That said, I still think the graphics of W3 hold up to this day.

I prefer Witcher 1's consumable potions over Witcher 3's just need alcohol, but Witcher 3 had the better crafting system. There's very little reason to collect ingredients for potions unless you have a recipe for a potion you don't have in Witcher 3 and you end up with 100's of ingredients you don't need and potions you will never use but cannot sell. Ingredients are everywhere and plenty of shops to buy them in Witcher 3 but for what reason? There's no challenge to getting what you need for crafting a potion, and there's no fear of running out, just have alcohol and meditate after every fight and I always have 100's of bottles of alcohol by the time I finish the game. Take Witcher 3's abundance of ingredients and shops with it's crafting and Witcher 1's/TES consumable/sellable potions and you have the best of both worlds. A reason to collect/buy ingredients and greater risk of running out. Also potions selling for more than the ingredients are worth is a great source of early game income rather than becoming Overencumbered Man.by collecting weapons and junk to sell.

Kind of odd for a Witcher focused channel to not be cool with a quintessential aspect of being a witcher, preparing for the fights. Gathering the ingredients, brewing potions and get yourself ready for each battle, like a....witcher.
@WitcherGeorge6 ай бұрын
To clarify I am not against making potions, just having to constantly remake them at a specific location. I saw some ideas about a portable campfire system (which makes sense as you can use igni anywhere) and it seems less annoying to me. However I liked the Witcher 3's system where you can make oils and potions then use them for 3 charges or something (as long as you have alcohol you can replenish). You can still prepare for fights but it takes out having to constantly gather new ingredients and travel to specific locations for a fight you can probably do without using anything.

@@WitcherGeorge To each their own, i guess. I suppose im too much of a traditionalist on that regard, as i really liked the lore-centric approach on W1, rather than the streamlined take on W3. But hey, options are always good, so i see where you're coming from.

I'll be honest, even though I love the Witcher 3 main story I kinda find the main story for Witcher 1 to be the best of the original trilogy. We spend more time with the gang and the villains are better than the Wild Hunt, etc. It's just inherently the better story, and while we don't have any Ciri, we got Alvin.
@WitcherGeorge6 ай бұрын
I agree to an extent. I think the thing about the witcher 3 is there is the 'main story' but the side stories are really where it excels (the baron, everything in skellige, the contracts etc.). Not to mention the incredible expansions' stories which definitely outshine the base game. But you're right about the witcher 1, it really has a strong 'witcher' feeling. I honestly attribute a lot of it to the inclusion of Vizima and a story including a proper Northern king and beginning with a battle at kaer morhen (not mystical elf soldiers, just a band of organised mercenaries and mages). It all fits with the classic sort of feeling. The Witcher 3 includes so many locations and awesome stories but it can get slightly diluted as the focus is so broad I suppose.

Well, think they gave us a taste of what TW1 remake could look alredy, with BAW, that's why they included couple of creatures from the first game into TW3. I am bit more "nervous" but about the rest, the story/narrative, alchemy, combat, world building, atmosphere, etc...and that they doest take ANY "inspiration" from Netflix🤷♂️😒Edit: For TW2 I am on board for a remake, if they keept untoched all the voice acting and not wash away the mature content about politics and violence, like that f-d up scene of what Radovid did at Loc Muinne😳☹️

I can say its a selfish way to play... and I will. Why are we advocating for less mechanical depth? That is a horrible idea, as the process of brewing potions and meditating being a core part of how Geralt interacts with his progression helps make the Witcher fantasy feel immersive.
