I try not to make these too long, but there's a lot to talk about! Fuel for other videos I suppose.
My Witcher lore videos are not meant to replace playing the game series or reading the books. Seriously, the novels are really good and I couldn't possibly convey every detail by just telling you about the events and characters. Go read the books, play the games, then come back to tell me how awesome the Witcher series is.

making a "pure witcher build" is pretty fun too, few pieces from the manticore and everything that increases your poison resistance > put as many cocktails and potions you can into your system and wreck havoc with fast attacks and oils. Very fun build and if you get all the pieces needed, you can easily run new game+ with the previous runs gear. Used it up to lvl 83 i think before i upgraded to the new game + gear. Aerondight is marvelous.

I love how it's supposed to be a secret, but leading up to the battle at Kaer Morhen, Geralt is just like, "Go to Kaer Morhen," and not a single person asks where it is. They just go like, "Oh yeah, I know exactly how to get there. See you there." That still bugs me, and it's not even a big deal lol. I just wish one person would ask me how to get there, so I can tell them to find the nearest signpost, and fast travel lol

Fun fact about the books, Coen, one of the witchers from the books could have been a griffin school witcher :) It is said that it was his first winter at Kaer Morhen, so he couldn't be a wolf school witcher. Vesemir would never let a cat school witcher into the fortress (I won't write why because of spoilers), therefore I think that he was a griffin witcher :) EDIT - I have just remembered... Coen was also the only witcher that Triss ever heard laughing, so it really goes well with the fact that griffin school witchers were more emotional and human than other witchers :)

That is why I haven't said that he has certainly been a griffin, but that there is a theory about him being from that school, translating from the original - "He seemed to be about the same age as Lambert". He may be a wolf school witcher or a griffin and that is really awesome. I wish we had a chance to see him in the game prologue during Ciri's training... Especially that hopscotch scene :)

I am already picturing trolls saying "play gewnty, troll with witchy, one more"... And werewolves bragging about the monster deck faction so much that they threaten their victims to play gwent to see who's better. I would like to add something that I thought about the Griffin school information. If you compare their armors to the other schools, the Griffin armor look more luxurious than the others, it is more detailed, it has Griffin heads on both arms, many parts looks as if they were made out of gold and the scabbards for their swords are more detailed than the others. Considering that the armours in Toussaint looks expensive, you might be right that the Griffin school is from Toussaint. Whatever the case is, I would like to think that the Griffin school is the wealthiest of all the Witcher schools.

Interestingly, by that logic, they would also be more vulnerable to magic, and you are otherwise right, gold is a soft metal and makes for poor armor.

I'm really surprised you remembered Geralt was wearing Manticore armor when he wakes up at Kaer Morhen. That's so esoteric I don't even know where to begin. How many times have you replayed the first game? >_>

Anyone that played TW1 or followed the series should recognize the Manticore armor in Blood & Wine. CDPR only gave it a Witcher school name (Manticore) in B&W. TW1 it's simply called 'Excellent Leather Jacket'. Seen here - witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Geralt_paper_dolls#Wearing_the_Studded_Leather_Jacket At 5,000 Orens, the Excellent Leather Jacket takes awhile to get, especially when you have to buy all of the books for the Bestiary, herbs/flowers, Quests etc. I wish TW2 and TW3 would have kept some of the deeper CRPG elements that TW1 implemented. It has the deepest character progression (Skill-tree) in the entire trilogy and say what you will about the combat, it's probably the most accurate presentation of how a Witcher would fight. Unfortunately a lot of gamers will never give the 1st Witcher game a chance. Sure, it starts off slow, has some quirks here and there, can be clunky with a combat system that takes time getting used to but if you persevere and have patience, Witcher 1 is worth playing, even today. Anyone that considers themselves a Witcher fan, owes it to themselves to play the entire trilogy and/or read the books, you will be happy that you did. I understand that not everyone owns a gaming PC, or likes to read, however, to those who do like to read and have a capable PC, all of the books are now officially translated to English and you can grab Witcher 1 & 2 for very cheap, probably both under $20, they're consistently going on sale.

I'm gonna guess that because many different schools specialise in different things, viper poison, cats are fast, manticore are very drugged 90% of the time and the Bears could probably get shot by a ballista and then stand up I'm gonna guess that Griffins don't just get basic signs, I think their magic training goes deeper ie. Actual good spells that have a range of more than 6 inches

Griffin armor’s sign boosts definitely help at higher difficulties. Plus, I just love the looks of Griffin School gear. Still don’t understand why the two schools named after flying beasts aren’t the ones that get crossbows.

In the very beginning of the Witcher 3, when you are in White Orchard, Vesemir says that over winter they should cover their tracks to Kaer'Morhen meaning that, yes as you said Witcher School locations are kept a secret.

This is kinda a dumb comment but whatever, i thought this would be a cool free dlc following the quest "Where The Cat & Wolf Play" - So you were told by the little girls aunt that she's better off going with you, you thought about it for a while and you decided to go back to her and decide it's better if you do take her to Kaer Morhen, so you do take her there, train her, just like you did Ciri, then you need to find Yen or Triss, ( if you got played by Yen and Triss, you need to ask for forgiveness ) and ask either one for help, they ask what kind of help, you respond with help putting a new Witcheress to the trail of grasses, they shudder at thought of what the hell you did but you convince them to help you, so when you get Kaer Morhen, you put the girl through some more training while Yen or Triss ready the mutagens and potions, once Yen or Triss are ready, you subject her to the trail, she barely survived the trail and took her 2 days to fully recover from the vomit, headaches, shitting, Etc.. you put her through the trails as normal but you go with her cause In the trails you need to have a partner, after you complete the trails, she is ready to set off on the path. also she also doesn't despawn like Eskel and Lambert and other characters, she can be found anywhere, even in Toussaint, you can talk to her and her how's it on the path, ask if she needs help, if yes or no, you can be on your way or help her, anyways that's what i thought would be a cool extra mini Dlc for the game, cause I've always wanted to invoke the law of surprise.

Problem is that the mutations won't work on girls, and the Witchers(at least the Wolf School ones) are very hesitant when it comes to training newbies due to the dangerous training, mutations, and lifestyle. Ciri was a VERY special case.

Great video, although I have to correct you on Griffin School: they were probably from Poviss, a northern country near Kovir, not Toussaint. Kovir and Poviss are said to be home of freethinkers, scholars, mages and other progressive people, so it would make sense for witchers from this place to be kind, well-mannered and Sign-oriented in battle. Coen, the only witcher from Griffin School that appears in the books is said to be from Poviss, so that's a pretty big hint. He's also seen playing with Ciri and laughing, the only time Triss ever heard a witcher laugh. Plus he's the only witcher to join an army and fight alongside commoners against Nilfgaard. Toussaint doesn't have anything against mages, they use their work frequently for a number of day-to-day (or rather party-to-party) activities so they wouldn't send off children to become witchers instead of wizards. And they have no need for a witcher school, since their knights are already bored due to lack of monsters and enemies to fight (at least in the books).

I feel like the Griffin School is usually pegged for being Toussaintois in origin because, from the armor, it seems to be more posh and regal than the other schools. While that could be that they’re better funded than the others, or the fact that griffins are often seen as regal beats, it does give them a Toussaintois feel. And the witchers from the Griffin School that we learn about in TW3 definitely seem to exude the Five Chivalric Virtues. However, the Toussaint we see in TW3 is not the Toussaint of yore, as the various NPCs are quick to say.

You can guess the witcher schools on their armours. Bears are tanky like witchers and rely on armour and the usages of Quen Cats are witchers that are masters of the blade and quick attacks and they dominate atleast human anatomy and most of their strikes are precise. Wolfs are balances witchers Griffins are mage like witchers. Vipers are perhaps similar to cat witchers, but more specialised on stealth ( wich contradicts Letho's appareance apparently :/) Manticores I would say are masters in witcher alchemy

The trial of the grasses was designed to work on boys/men. Women have a different hormonal composition than men; therefore, a trial of the grasses for women would require new research. Since the demand/respect for male witchers is already low, this research is unlikely to take place. This is mentioned somewhere in the first 2 books. As for why the original research was gender asymmetric: one could theorise that it is because the male adrenal response is stronger than that in women. This would explain why men are more likely to survive the trial - the adrenaline would help them survive internal changes and the possible hemorrhaging associated with them. Furthermore, many of the Witcher mutations, potion use and superhuman abilities revolve around adrenaline (the books often refer to Geralts awareness of the adrenaline coursing through him). Thus, a reason to favour male Witchers - adrenal hormone response - can be found other than sexism or historic coincidence. In real life, this gender asymmetry in adrenal response manifests itself in athletic pursuits; weightlifting, for instance. It is believed to explain why men are able to display maximum strength in the 1-3rep range, whereas women perform best in the 5 rep range. I've just found your channel and the fact that this video is more than 2 years old doesn't deter me from commenting. I'd go Bear school, I'm a not a large lad, but I do enjoy my beer, a lot of it. Being a witcher would heighten the tolerance immensely and I could drink huge skelligers under the table for bragging rights, good stories and monetary gain. Also skelligers are op, so an islander witcher sounds nice.

I'll be joining for griffin school. seems to me it's the most mage-like school, proper manners, and have decent equipment judging from the witcher grandmaster gears. I just like quen-ed my way out of monsters, send them sky high with aard or burned them to into crisp with igni, LOL. I am really hoping witcher 4 will have a feature to choose your own schools so probably a prequel to witcher saga and game series.

I wish they would have focused on the lesser mentioned Witcher school of Coyotes,probably the unsuccessful stories of their fail attempts of slaying the hideous Roadrunner monsters has prevented them from being part of the lore.

Doesn't the quest description for the Grandmaster Manticore Gear Treasure Hunt mention Geralt once wearing Manticore armor of lower quality, that was somewhat poorly crafted and didn't suffice his needs? That would explain him having worn it after leaving Kaer Morhen for the first time after fleeing the Wild Hunt, like you mentioned in the video.

I think Vesemir only mentioned the most recent or the only schools active in the north. Bear seems to be solely active in Skellige and died out long before Geralts time. Vipers, as you said, are from deep in Nilfgaard; not likely to be in northern parts. The manticore is from the ambiguous zerrikania, which could mean either the other side of the blue mountains or even further. We only find it, by chance, in the south and only In a single member. Seeing as the lebeoda statue is long decayed, this single member likely passed by long ago.

if we trace this to the quest "where wolves and cats play" herein lies the correct choice to kill the witcher from the cat school. in that quest he is hired to kill a leshin, (the cat school witcher (a leshin is kinda like a wendigo)) and he gets cheated from his crowns and is told theres a considerable sum in the barn, to where he goes being tricked and also stabbed in the back with a pitchfork. after this he then proceeds to slaughter everyone in the village except a child. you later happen on this village and find said child, she explains theres another witcher around and hands you a pendant which you find to be a cat pendant. tracking this witcher down you can choose to fight him or hear his story to which he explains what i've previously noted. by what this video mentions this cat witcher does slaughterings like this as a pass time just like any other witcher would find their pass time in contracts. so the correct choice of that quest as previously stated, is to kill the cat school witcher.

As everything in the Witcher world, nothing's so black and white. Lambert had a friend from the cat school whom he vouched for, and I trust Lambert. He's a bastard sometimes but he's not evil. While it seems a majority of the cat school is a bit of a bad apple, in this world, I'll never judge a person as a group.

true while not the entire group may not be at fault especially not the one lambert mentioned because thats a witcher that geralt has spent time with and would place his trust in someone should lambert vouch for them. but the example that you meet from the quest is one of those bad apples but more-so in the idea that he takes pleasure in the occasional slaughter of people rather than monsters. my guess is that he leaves that bit out because if he'd mentioned that he'd done things like this previously it'd skip the option to let him go or fight him and pick fight him for you therein lies the issue if you can see past what he isnt telling.

Great video! I'm with the viper school. Hate to see myself forced into politics like Geralt was. I think the "shadow walkers" avoid it best. Plus I play the 3rd installment of the franchise with only the Kaer Morhen armor set on the highest difficulty and using a steel and silver sword that looks like the ones you start the game with (Velen longsword and Gvennel), but always buy them every 5 levels so that they can be compatible with my level. Just me being hardcore, as always.

The Viper armor is my favorite as it looks the most like the default Kaer Morhen armor, provides poison immunity, is one of the most realistic armors in the game, and fits my play style. As for the school, well I choose the Griffin school, but accept that the game continues to refer to Geralt as hailing from the school of the Wolf.

you wouldn't find much mages in nilfgaard controlled areas, mages in nilfgaard are forced into state service or faced with execution. so all mages are nilfgaardian agents, unlike how the mages in the north were treated pre summit of loc muine

This witcher school guide has not been researched at all,it is a 2 min Google search to find that school of the Griffin is northwestern continent in the mountains of Kovir,Wolf school in North eastern continent,bear school in Amell mountains ( close to cintra),cat school has no fixed abode and is reputed to be a travelling caravan,viper school is somewhere in Nilfgaard and manticore school most probably from the deserts of Zerrikania...

I've felt I had more affinity toward the School of the Viper. I share some of their practices in this video. Read they specialize in sword techniques, and alchemy as well as the wealth of knowledge from their great library. Plus, I found Letho of Gulet to be likeable given time. I found a guy on Etsy who has crafted a Viper medallion for me, and I'm designing my own custom armor taking influences from various sets throughout the Wild Hunt game. Awaiting my swords from Amazon, and a buddy said he'd craft the pommels from the Venomous Viper steel/silver swords from the Hearts of Stone expansion.

Last couple months and this month, I spent a lot of time playing Witcher 3 again and spent a lot of effort, time and crowns (about 120 000 crowns) to craft the full sets of the grandmaster level gear from all schools except viper cuz there’s no grandmaster lever for that one. The wolven and manticore sets are prolly the worst in my opinion cuz their abilities don’t match the ones from the other schools. Cat Griffin and bear are equally good to me and are all fun it just depends on which way you wanna play

I would join the Wolf school or Griffin School. Wolf school because it's balanced, they put equal importance on fighting, sings and alchemy, plus I would love to spend every winter with Eskel, Geralt and Lambert drinking and listening to their stories. Griffin school because like you said, their character is closer to that of normal humans, and they work a lot with witcher signs, and George of Kagen defeating a dragon without using swords is an impressive achievement, that means Griffin witchers are more than capable of taking care of themselves when powerful and intelligent enemies try to kill them. Losing your swords in battle is very probable, so being powerful in using witcher signs is a huge advantage.

I'd go with either the Griffin school or the Wolf school. The wolf school as you said has balanced teachings and the Griffin school has some pretty cool gear, as well as a chivalrous personality, which is a rare and welcome trait in the Witcher universe. :)

I love your channel and very great video💜💜, i would to be from the bear school, and what i was thinking of is an idea for the new witcher game if there will be another💔, the idea is about three playable witchers from diffrent schools like: wolf,bear or cat school and evry charachtar has there own story and the way of living and they are contact in some way like friends or some thing like that . The other idea is a story about the age where witchers and witchers schools were strong and the story is deep about witchers. Or the final idea is about playing with Vesemir in his youth.

great videos. it would be really cool if the next witcher game explains more about the trial of grasses and the mutations and all that. back in the golden age of monsters where witchers were really needed. to show us all the other schools that existed and the creation of a witcher. this would be a good witcher game because they said they don't want to do anything more on geralt's story.

Geralt was a special case. He reacted so well to the initial mutations he was selected for further mutations afterwards. That second set of mutations turned his hair white as snow. ^^

I know I'm mad late but just got into Witcher 3 and the DLCs as I didn't have internet on my PS4 till recent and most DLC packs involve codes and downloads, thank god for the Complete Version! Anyway after reading the Last Wish anthology and moving on shortly to the main saga, plus playing 2 on PS2 as well as starting 3 recently I must say, I've been missing out. I love high fantasy. LotRs, Sword of Truth, Forgotten Realms: the Drizzt saga, etc. If I had my way and 3 was a little more loose with the sandbox aspect I would if I could go adventuring to all the schools while still in their primes or even in 3 do side missions involving finding and gaining the trust of each schools masters or members to apprentice and learn all their secrets kinda Avatar Last Airbender style. That would be a sick DLC: The Extended Adventures of Geralt!
