For someone "who has no humanity" he has more morals than most of the chraracters in the books/ games. My first time playing witcher 3 (and my first entry into the game) was amazing. I knew nothing about geralt. But after 70 hours on my FIRST playthrough, i learned how lorely rich he was and that he was full of emotion. I was absolutely mortified to find out who Netflix had chosen to depict Geralt. However, within a single episode, found my preconceived notions were terribly wrong. Henry Cavill remains more muscular than Geralt has been depicted. Aside from this, from his mannerisms to his voice, it lines up very well. I am thoroughly enjoying the show and have just ordered the books. I can safely say that, in my opinion, the only published piece dabbling in the Witcher universe thay I will not touch is the Table Top RPG. After reading the rules in-depth I found it to be over complicated.

@metatrontf5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this. I had no familiarity with the previous games, or the books when I started playing The Witcher 3, but after starting to play, I quickly noticed how human Geralt is. How he's more human than most, more than many of the very people who scoff at him for being a witcher. "The Black Pearl" is the quest that truly made me realise how emotional he is, how kind he is. Sure, he may be sarcastic and cynical at times, but Dandelion is right--Geralt is a great, loyal person. That quest in particular proved it to me. In that quest, when the soldier tells you his wife, in the end, didn't react to the pearl and the reason why, you can actually see the secondhand pain and empathy ooze from Geralt's eyes. Possibly because it reminds him of how he and Yennefer lost their memories (their amnesia), and that the soldier's situation would've been the fate of any of the two if one hadn't gotten their memory back but the other did. I imagine he thought of him still loving Yennefer but her not remembering him. Just the way he looked and behaved after the soldier said that made me realise that Geralt really is kinder than anyone. I wish people in that universe could see that. At least you can do quests and change people's minds one quest at a time.

The lesser evil is my favourite of the witcher short stories and also has one of my favourite lines from Geralt. "Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling. Makes no difference. If I'm to choose between one evil or another, I'd rather not choose at all."

I love your videos man. By far the best presentation of Witcher content out there.

Hey drew, wonder if you’re willing to teach us how you made those frozen shots of the game while you can still play around with the camera? It’s soooo beautiful, and I kinda wanna make some myself. Like geralt fighting the Fiend or something like that. It’s absolutely beautiful and I’m sure a lot of people, myself included will be grateful to learn how to do that

4:44 I LOVE how you are one of those not many people who use actual good gear and also good swords for a cutscene FINALLY why is every youtuber using the FIRST garbage armor they find in a chest on the site of the road ? Good work.

It truly takes a strong will to keep doing what Geralt does and not become like the ‘monsters’ he actually helps and saves, especially when being constantly ridiculed and ostracized wherever you go.

Eh, canon Geralt is mostly just not actively a massive piece of shit to be honest. You could definitely argue that's quite an achievement, but the very first story begins with him murdering three men just to get the attention of the local magistrate, he's not a moral paragon. CD Projeckt redeemed his character really well, and to be fair his life would probably be simpler if he just killed indiscriminately for profit, but in the canon books he's not driven by a sense of right and wrong, every decision he makes is about protecting people he cares about first, and self preservation second. He acts purely on altruism only once, when he defends the merchant in the woods against nekkers, because he's suicidal at that point, believing Yennefer and Ciri dead, and it nearly kills him. Even in the pogram that kills him, defending the elves and dwarves of Rivia against the mob, he probably wouldn't have acted had Zoltan, Dandelion, Yennefer and Triss not been at risk. The only thing that the games just don't capture well, much as I love them, Geralt isn't the kind of character that lives and dies by his morals, he's the kind of character that will gladly just bounce when he has nothing at stake

Started playing Witcher 1 this week and also interested in its lore like I did Diablo. Was planning to play the Witcher series in the future but since the tv series premiered I had to start! I know that it isn't mandatory to play the games to understand the tv series but I wanna have those "Hey that's !" moments. And I also watched one youtube video a day ago but wasn't really focused as I was doing something while listening. Your presentation is clear and easy to follow, this is a great start!

Something that stuck out to me is the social interpretation, a lot of times I‘ve seen people treat him like the quintessential power fantasy. Geralt is better than that though, he doesn‘t only exist to serve someone insecurities or grandiosity. People have gotten insane backlash for making the „astute“ observation that this is really Ciri‘s story, just like she says. Geralt is a cool dude, but he never wanted to be a main arbiter of change. He‘s not there to prove your great man theory, he has believable goals and ambitions.

I was bullied as a kid. Obviously being bullied for being fat isn’t the same as being called a mutant and a freak but it always made me really feel for Geralt. I understand at the very least what it’s like to be shunned just for looking different.
