Welcome to Glastonbury, known for being host to the largest music festival in the world and by far the strangest place in the UK... known as a Hippy Heaven, where Witches, Wizards and Hippies are a common sight! A mystical place where alternative lifestyles and pagan spiritualism is normal. A real life Harry Potter movie. A centre for all things alternative lifestyle and eccentric! I was shocked to see every shop was filled in this UK High Street, a rare sight on my travels of the UK. Glastonbury is a busy, bustling and vibrant British Town Centre, opposed to the abandoned high streets of Britain that we are all familiar with. Not all of the UK is Broken Britain. Thanks to @BackpackerBen for stopping by! Head over to his channel and check out his extreme travel content!
#uk #england #reallife #streetinterview #strange #alternative #britain #folklore #glastonbury #ukvlogs
One national tabloid described this small British town as the "Weirdest Town in The UK"... I would say the "Strangest Place In The World". Never in my life have I been anywhere as weird and wonderful as Glastonbury or Avalon as it was once known. Hearing the stories of the locals in street interview form was eye opening.
Remember to catch me on Instagram @joefish.surf (Link in KZbin Bio)
In these UK vlogs I'll show you the real England, more vlogs and content incoming from different locations showing you the real side of life in various places around the UK and the World!

Backpacker Ben looked at those springs like it was piss. Backpacking has changed a lot since I was a teenager. We would have been 'well' glad of a drink of good water when my mate and I went backpacking in 1990. We got of the Belfast to Liverpool boat with £12 between us and spent the next three months hitching through England. We very seldom went hungry or thirsty and we sipped at many service station taps, we would've filled our bellies and bottles at a spring like this. The English people were very good to us and many times we were fed, watered and offered a floor to bed down on. Great times and good people.

20 years ago while I was very very high I wild camped on the side of Glastonbury tor. I woke in the night in my tent to hear strange chanting outside. Some guy was chanting in the dark outside.... I heard him chant the name shiva and thought fair enough shiva isn't Satan so maybe he won't sacrifice me in the night.... In the morning I went outside and made breakfast and a big fattie. The guy was camping right outside my tent and hadn't seen my tent in the dark. He awoke and was a lil freaked out to see me.... Glastonbury! All normal there!

The red and white springs are kept clean and drinkable. It's spring water, just like the stuff you buy in bottles in the supermarket. The red spring water doesn't keep that well, so better drunk fresh. That was a pretty fair appraisal of our beautiful town, you'd fit in well, not so sure about your mate Ben 😃. Be aware that people come from far and wide to the variety of cosmic conferences held over the summer. Beneath all the cosmic nonsense is a community with a heart of gold.

All too commercial for me. I remember the town when the Pilton festival now known as Glastonbury festival took place. Went through there in the late 60s to go on the annual family holiday, not been since and still looks relatively the same.seems a friendly place, the land time forgot. These hippies are completely normal to what you saw in the 60s, then, long kaftan, bells around the neck,Indian sandals, cloth headbands and John lennon glasses and that was just the men and loads of afghan coats even in summer. My traditional boring dad nearly had a meltdown at the sight of them, calling them unemployable layabout students who would never get a job in the real world. Mum called them dirty lot. I bet they all ended up as architects and maths teachers😊

Whitby in Yorkshire has similar quirky vibe. Good to see the town at street level , lots of people may just pass by or quickly pass through, ecspecially during the festival. I can't really call myself a "hippy", but I have a bit of a soft spot for fairy tales etc. I've been called Pixie & Tinkerbell, so maybe I would fit in well at the ball. Perhaps it once was "hippy heaven", as you say. But let's not pretend that everything's a party here day-to-day. The town has some serious problems: a lot of alcoholism, hard drugs, homelessness (rents are escalating), domestic abuse, rapes, murders (true!), feuding and bitter local politics, not to mention an invisible soup of dangerously high EMFs making people sick. Has to be said.

there is a guy who says he figured who Artorius Duke of Battles was and where he is buried. The Establishment academics say he is wrong but they also won't let him dig the barrow to find out. The stories of Arthur at Glastonbury are a medieval hoax perpetrated by monks looking for pilgrims. I'm glad you had fun but you have only scratched the surface

Amazing. Really want to go there. You fit in with Ben and his people so well. Very glad to see you now as part of them. Love the history, didn't know about the water! The fact you know about Joseph of Arimathea and his role is amazing. Also, legend has it he brought a young Jesus with him to England, and that's why the Celts converted so easily to Christianity when it came here.

Like wow man! We have a similar experience not far away in West Yorkshire called Hebden Bridge - a Northern Hippie Haven. I keep up to date with things via Glastonbury Gabriel's channel. I've been a few times, last time was for the festival in the 80's. I stayed after to clear up, so much trash for so many hippies who "love the Earth" - I think they've missed something. Many left full camping set ups, not cheap either! I go by works not words. For your edification I think you'll find that latter Romans brought "Christianity" to the UK in the late 3rd and early 4th century AD. Later was St. Columba 521 to 597ad who was said to bring "Christianity" to Scotland in the 6th century.
