In this UK Documentary my investigation takes me on the road to visit two UK towns that are consistently voted amongst the worst towns in the UK, with shocking new research released stating these towns are not only amongst the worst places in the UK they have been found to have some of the filthiest polluted water to be found anywhere in the UK. I hit the streets of Burnham on Sea and Weston-Super-Mare to spend time in these forgotten seaside towns to find out if indeed they do rank amongst the worst seaside towns? What are the makings of the "Worst UK Towns"? In this documentary I investigate the problems faced by the locals of these deprived and poverty stricken towns. I interviewed numerous locals to find out if the headlines in the national media are true... Have these UK towns been "decimated" and are they fast becoming "ghost towns"... in this documentary we find out!

No council's encourage local businesses through business rates ,parking or selling the parking rights to the likes of NCP etc . They don't encourage any local business only stifle it. Tragic!

how are the council charging kids to sit on the beaches? they are ours they manage them for us not charge us like they own them, also why would the government upgrade british towns they need all our cash to pay to mosques in britain to help them = 70 million a year, fund the war in ukraine = untold billions, aid for africa = 100 million, aid for china = 50 million, aid for india = 50 million per year every year. 👍🏻

I agree that online shopping has had a dramatic impact on retail, but council taxes and high rent and high government taxation has worsened the problem

WSM is just shabby to my memory but the dunes at Burnham beach are a safety risk with lots of broken glass in the sand. That was my experience as a holidaymaker with young children over 10 years ago. I've never returned.

I loved holiday in seaside places, my parents took me and my sister to the same guest house in Scarborough in the 90s , guest house is now empty . it was a nice guest house , very old fashioned of shared bathrooms one on each floor.

Hey Joe. Thanks for this video. QI lived in WsM until Jan 2024, and my God it has declined. Various councils of all stripes have let the town down. Having a new Labour MP hasn't helped either. There's too much emphasis on bowing down to a cultural elite and money wasted (£4bn on turning to the Tropicana into an arts convention!). Throw in they've tried to ban donkey rides! I'm in South Bristol, but it's a bit better than WsM. I think it'll die a death if things don't change in the next five years. 25% voted in the last local election in 2023. The same ballot papers as 2019, 2015 virtually... Bunch of careerist politicians, old hands that have been there since the 60s and just useless people. North Somerset Council is set to go bankrupt with a worse situation than Birmingham! Burnham-on-Sea, I've not been since 2014 and feel that's just the land time forgot and more of an retirement home. Pontins was a downfall, but there's not much. However, it seems Burnham is doing better than it's bigger brother WsM. That with the paint...Somerset Council is as useless as North Somerset. Is there really a brain drain in the South West of a lack of decent community people? Was thinking, a video on South Bristol (decline of Bedminster and problems in Hartcliffe etc) needs to be done.

Maybe it will turn into a retirement town, instead of a tourist town. Relatively quiet, sea air... better than Brum or those run down post industrial towns. Got a pension, a car, a dog. In my town people volunteer. To clean up, do stuff, in a group, meeting people, chatting. Jobs are a thing of the past. With the best will in the world there aren't enough to go 'round.

I don't know what the worst seaside town in the UK is, but I'm sure they were all once beautiful and can be beautiful again. I personally know the worst person from one seaside town in the UK and he lives in Fratton, Portsmouth.

The government needs to step in and help rejuvenate these beautiful beach 🏝️ towns. I Can envision these places just bursting at the seems with tons of people enjoying themselves. I live about 45 minutes from Weston. Was told the other day motorhomes can't park in somerset car parks. That won't help the tourism, so it's no wonder they're dying.

Burnham’s friendly enough, our dog loves the great beaches and we visit twice a year. It’s not that bad compared to many seaside towns I’ve visited

Don't blame the council. Always the easy thing to do. It's simple capitalism at work As your video shows there was profit in these towns when they grew with the railways. There's no profit in them any more. Simple as that. The money has gone elsewhere.

I'm lucky enough to live in Burnham on Sea and I love it here. Can't get better than the huge sand beach on a summers day. The locals are friendly too😊

WSM - Excessive car parking charges and the mad road design closing off streets killed off the little shops people would nip to. The town lost its soul. They just drive to Bristol or Worle. People would nip down for day out and chips, but being chased by aggressive traffic wardens is no ones idea of fun.. Council just burns money on silly projects no one asked for..
