Agreed. The accoutrements of magic are merely tools to focus the attention, intent, will and energy of the magician. Also, they provide techniques for mobilizing mind-power. I think the mind is pluripotent. Whatever one believes it can do, it can do. Faith/trust in the power of the mind is the main driving force towards its efficacy. Greater faith, greater will-power.

I find this absolutely fascinating! I’ve been a shamanic practitioner for about 10 years now, and his philosophical perspective is very close to what I am learning & experiencing with my spirit guides. The one difference, which shifts the entire philosophy into something optimistic, is that we little blips of individuated consciousness/will do have choice and free will. And our choices shape the evolution of The Will over eons. So not only can we strive to grow and mature, but doing so grows and matures the whole of consciousness. No pressure, humanity. 😂

Finally someone with a similar experience. I usually have this, too, and it is not awful but feels liberating in the same way that truth liberates. You have to be prepared to stare into the abyss, however. Only once it got a little too much for me when I had read that Lovecraft was inspired by Schopenhauer and started associating Cthulhu with the will, granting metaphysical heavyweight to Lovecraft's fantastical mythology. It was on a grim january afternoon. During the first couple of hours I had already shivered all the time and lay in bed enveloped into my blanket listening to music. When I finally went out and took a walk, it was already getting dark. Where I live, I have to walk past the sewage treatment plant to really get out into the green. Together with the weather and the time of day, that really was a terrible setting. There was the typical industrial background noise, and the fog kept reflecting the floodlights. At that point I started to feel that the very earth I was walking on was itself the body of Cthulhu. There were even some dead birds lying around, which almost made me panic. Later that day when the peak was over and I was having dinner, I felt that I myself was the all-consuming Cthulhu... consuming not only everything outside itself, but itself as well. But that trip was an exception. I usually see more light than darkness.

Nice dip into this genius, the profundity of mesmerism, pessimism, philosophy, and magic as well. Cute puppy and kitty, too. It’s most refreshing to consider that the ultimate of pessimists became something of an optimist in his waning days. For a few, however, hope rings eternally as ‘riz said.

Oh my gosh, that Wolverine reference made me choke on my drink, lol. Every viewer can always count on Dr Sledge for that sly pop culture reference ❤. What an interesting philosopher. As a modern witch, we focus our intent on a magical working , very much in the way he describes the “will”. In some ways, the way he talks about the will seems almost Buddhist to me, but I must admit my knowledge is not great. Wow. To have a conversation with this guy must have been intense.
@QuasarEE20 күн бұрын
As a Buddhist, it definitely rings with similarities, at first. The main point of divergence is the nihilistic assertion of there being no way out, since the whole point of Buddhism is to realize the unborn and unending Buddha nature and thus escape Samsara. Rather than saying there's "no good", we'd assert that good and bad lose their meaning when we do not attach to relative attributes. We wouldn't assert you can never know the fundamental truth as that's what the Buddha explains you can discover through meditation and practice. Finally, compassion is critical, and is why and how beings who have this level of realization continue to manifest into the world in forms fit to the need of the rest of us.

One of my favourite videos you have done. Time from a Will Eyed View is a phrase I won‘t soon forget. This is generally how I view the Art. Add some Plotinus and a whole lot from contemporary science particularly physics and I think many of the “big questions“ can be scientifically explored by anyone conscious and Willing to do so at this point. 20:15 I feel called out XD Ah well... at least I ditched all the dude‘s dogmas when I converted to Discordianism after I left all the various “official“ groups. Oh and I gave up the always wearing all black thing (though yes... I am wearing a black hat, black long sleeve shirt, dark jeans and black shoes as I write this... but I assure you this is a comical coincidence and my favourite stuff.is instead tye-dye, rainbows and flowers... which I guess just puts me in the **other** stereotype of a Thelemite.. especially one who would ditch the whole A.C being “The“ Prophet thing). Rant: I just see him as another “Star“ just as each and everyone of us is both metaphysically and our atoms are starstuff. The Current has a lot to offer but not as a static system... gotta say I did not care much for the (sometimes) repressed authoritarianism a lot of the system is merely set dressing for. Did ya know at one point in his diaries AC writes about starting an island nation governed by his groups and which had a military? He wrote a lot in those diaries people should know... especially about the 9th degree and women in general. The set dressing though did such a good job more than half our practitioners don‘t even know the system is as broken and twisted as it is and so if they don‘t know they end up pretty awesome people. Those who do know certain things have choices. Leave (did that first). Leave but don‘t actually leave.. just become one of several community gnatflies (my current route). Stay and openly drop hints that you‘re doing your best to change things (I see you people and I salute ya all). Stay and just ignore “all this“ and anything problematic to simply focus on your own path. You get it, there are a few other choices but then there‘s those who dive deeper and deeper and eventually you find people who will defend the worst stuff and eventually change for the worse. There‘s a reason the alt-right is discovering it and choosing to get involved. The structure of the system was designed for one thing: make AC God. Everything else is set-dressing. Once you realize that though you can democratize a system of self-divination to whoever cause why not. As it is by itself though its for AC and its brutally elitist, militant, misogynist (Equinox 3‘s DE VIA PROPRIA FEMINIS is just the beginning of how bad it gets... especially for the “secrets“ of the 0T0‘s 7th, 8th and 9th degrees (mostly just the 9th the other two are dedicated to building up to the 9th and its semi-attached 11th) and so many other words I could list... but it should say something for the usefulness of his system that even as someone who hates the guy and never would want to be around him I still call myself a [Discordian] Thelemite. Dangerous things are often useful things and vice versa. Wish I could say more.

Jawdroppingly relevant to today’s Idealism philosophers.. How on gods green earth did he get these insights and so long ago?.. a video on Schopenhauer’s background and inspirations would be brilliant. In the meantime I think I need to read his stuff.

Wow! Schopenhauers concept of Ghost is nearly the same as mine, except that I believe ghosts are an electromagnetic (or perhaps quantum) scar on the fabric of space-time; similar to how a bolt of lightning which strikes the sand leaves an imprint in the medium of sand which, while not lightning anymore, can be experienced as a form of lightning's previous existence and violence.

There’s no quantum, they’re in the astral world which impresses itself upon the material from a supra stature giving animus Like a face impressed upon a coin but giving life and will to that which is dead

I am a new viewer to your channel and hope you keep up the great work! I have watched a few of your videos so far and wanted to request a video on the Egyptian goddess Hathor? In the same format as the Thoth video you made would be awesome! You could make an Egyptian deities playlist too.

O M G, I had no idea this existed, thank you so much. After ordering the book post haste (Schop wrote a book on what amounts to parapsychology! I am losing my shit!), I watched the video and it was the best video I have seen this year, I am over the frikkin moon right now. It occurs to me that perhaps The Will is a sort of "Quantum Force", more specifically a tendency towards the phenomena of coherence, which as far as we know does not exist, indeed quite the contrary does. As a quantum system interacts with its environs it becomes "less quantum", this is called decoherence. Quantum-ness is comprised of things like superposition (the ability of a system to exist in multiple states simultaneously) and non-locality. If the "more" that the will seeks was more coherence it would be seeking to remain undefined, lost or in a state of unrealized real-ness so to speak. For some years now It has been my opinion that there exists an economy of coherence, that among consciousness(s) coherence is a currency of sorts. I think we can all agree that consciousness is information. Add to this that the only complete model of consciousness is a quantum biophysical one, the OrchOr hypothesis proposed by Penrose and Hameroff in the 90s (from a Bayesian standpoint it is all we have) and a picture emerges of what magic might be and a possible answer to the question of death. As far as "magic" goes, the observer effect demonstrates direct influence upon reality via consciousness, yet everyone assumes this effect is evenly distributed among individuals, which I find to be patently absurd. Meaning some people have or cultivate more powerful perception which in turn influences reality more and so they are described as "magical". Whether they use foci or ritual to enhance the effect of measurement disturbing the system measured (ie, perception) is irrelevant to the process. As for death, if the "soul" as we describe it is defined as quantum information then it must decohere, the information remains but the system is less quantum, less undefined, less potentially changeable or able to "evolve" one might say. At the verge of total decoherence (a horrible fate, to be informationally locked as many might describe an angel, elemental or demon), the only solution is for this information to Change Mediums, because information by definition must exist in a medium, but if that medium becomes "quantumly worn out" and thus we die or rather transmigrate. The universe is more than willing to orchestrate this event within the framework of spacetime in order to keep the accounts balanced, indeed the business of non-human intelligence may be the policing of this system. Of course they would be rewarded for this service with coherence, be allowed to remain themselves that much longer and on it goes. But I digress. I cannot wait to see how this book influences my comprehensive hypothesis of the paranormal based on quantum biophysics, consciousness and microbiology. My quest to find magic in science began when I ran across a reference to Wilhelm Reichenbach's work with magnets and neurasthenics in Colin Wilson's "The Occult" at age 16 and continues to this day. You have aided me greatly in this endeavor today and have done so more than once and for this I salute you! What is next, are you going to point us to a resource that reveals some details of the Paracelsian ritual for the summoning of elementals that he refused to divulge?
