I mean it has "witch" in the title and it about the historical witch trials soo... "Caliban and the Witch" by Silvia Federici. Deals a lot with how the time before the witch trials was full of instances that led to the decline of women. And a LOT of historical facts that will make anyone very anti-capitalist lol (the book does lean kinda hard into anti-capitalism at times so fair warning if that isn't something you want to read about)

My favorite witchy book is kinda a parody of HP. It's called SuperMutant Magic Academy by Jillian Tamaki. I also liked The Hidden Witch series and Monstress is amazing but I don't know if you would consider it a witchy read. There are witches in the series and there's a magic system in the world but the main character isn't a witch. Still, it's really good and I recommend everyone check it out if you're okay with violence and body horror lol.

I love the raven cycle so much! One of my favourite series of all time :3 I really want to read the bear and the nightingale, especially as I like fairytale-esque books. I should read Good Omens too. Especially as I want to watch the mini series at some point as well. Ah I remember when the twisted tree came out D: Thanks for these great recommendations!

Thank you for watching!! Yes I actually really want to re-read the Raven Cycle, I enjoyed that series so much! I think the Bear and the Nightingale succeeds in a variety of ways - it has a wonderful fantasy world, but is also a believable historical fiction with realistic portrayals of how sexism actually played out in society. Absolutely read Good Omens, it's a great way to prime yourself for the miniseries. And I really love the Twisted Tree and I'll recommend it whenever I have the chance, and the writer is a lovely human being! ^^

I felt exactly the same as you about the film of Practical Magic, and I also loved the book. I see that Alice Hoffman has written a couple of prequels to it. I have The Rules of Magic to read, but haven't got there yet! The first four books on your list are all ones I either have or have considered recently - so I should really pick some up! Fabulous choices, as always.

Totally agree with your comparison of “A Discovery of Witches” with “Twilight”. I would add it’s Twilight with a stronger, multi-dimensional female lead.

Going to pick up the Twisted Tree. I liked the world building of the book "Practical Magic" but I didn't like the story. It started out being about Gillian and Sally, then turned into a coming of age story for Sally's children. Not interested in childish sibling rivalry and angst where coloring your hair is a big deal. Much preferred the adult issues in the movie.
