Drew was a guest on the DARE podcast just recently, talking partly about insomnia. Daniel, the folks at DARE might be good to talk to about guesting on their their podcasts or seminars about anxiety. Or have them guest on yours. Their program (book, app, Q&A, webinars, etc.) brought me out of a debilitating general anxiety condition.

So glad you found your way out Laura and - thanks so much for the tip. I’m beginning to see how this could be so helpful to get our thoughts out there and help our community with ideas like those within DARE. Will contact them today!

Love this conversation. Daniel I’ve been applying your concepts to anxiety lately. Especially since they worked so well for me with insomnia. I sleep great now. So, I’m making a lot of connections around anxiety I experience from time to time and how I can use the same concepts that helped me with sleep. Like when you say insomnia is a fear of wakefulness. What if anxiety is a fear of being anxious? And just like how sleep is effortless, maybe experiencing calm can be effortless? Just some thoughts!😊

Thanks Ann!! And totally see it like this, insomnia is fear or wakefulness… but that wakefulness is a result of fear. What we truly try to escape in insomnia is actually that underlying fear so - it is a fear of fear at the root. And calm, I 100% believe this comes from lack of effort, just like sleep!

Hi Michael, you know I think anything we do that makes us even a little bit more okay with experiencing anxiety can help, including medication

In addition to insomnia, I have severe performance phobia. I used to be a musician and had a really bright future as a performer whilst quite young. Then one day I started to get really anxious before performances. I started really messing up during competitions and even during orchestral rehearsals. It got so bad that I would freeze during a solo performance and just mess everything up. So for me going through with things in the face of fear didn't give a good result. I gave up on being a performer and embraced composition instead which I actually love. But I still look back with sadness at what happened to me. Now I won't play anything in front of anybody unless it is super easy. Even then I shake and make excuses. Feeling the fear and doing it anyway just resulted in shame and embarrassment for me. So what do you do when that happens? Because my brain has learnt that playing in front of people will be bad.

Thank you again for another insightful video. Question please for coach Daniel or Drew, If you have always suffered with Anxiety before insomnia. Then insomnia comes and leads to a more servre anxiety/bedtime anxiety...I wonder if it's best to keep treating the anxiety e.i continuing medication prescribed from GP etc..Or infact just continue facing your fear! As we know anxiety comes from fear and there infact is nothing to fear! This is where I'm personally finding it difficult anyway. Crippled with anxiety 24 hours a day 😖 then this just heightens when bedtime calls. I'm really stuck on what order I should do these in to help myself. And this ongoing cycle, I'm currently refusing to take the "pills" and just continue facing my fear every single night, still receiving 0 sleep. But again leads to if not more anxiety.😨 hope I'm not alone in feeling this way?

Technically you don't have to read 18 papers, and you shouldn't, because you will end up with biased information. Any decent systematic-review and meta-analysis will be comprehensive enough to include the relevant studies on the subject of interest; and the reviewers will have done the scrutinizing and critical analysis for you. All you have to do is read the abstract and discussion sections. They are more accessible since they tend to be written in plain language. I haven't missed the point. Obviously most people are not doing literature searches even if they're not in crisis. But if they ever wanted to, SR & MA would be the way to go. Loved this interview!

I really don’t like the way drew talked to Daniel. He seems to be really arrogant and talks as though he is miles away from Daniel in the theory. Where as Daniel is much more subtle, and drew is a bit of a intellectual bulldozer
