My husband says the same. I’m home so it doesn’t seem like work to him, partly because he doesn’t know what I’m doing, and somewhat because I don’t go to an office. It seems because it isn’t a traditional type job, he has difficulty wrapping his mind around it being a real job. I think he imagines me sitting around all day doing nothing. Which, as we know, could not be further from the truth. Also same when I ask him questions. He gets tired of hearing about it, so I have pullled back doing it so much. I had to really look at that he is not trying to be unsupportive but has his own job, and doesn’t get what I do really, The glazed look is real! Thank you for your videos. Love watching

This sums it up perfectly. I'm so glad that folks who watched understood that Dan wasn't being mean, I was a little worried about keeping that bit in in case it was misunderstood, but I also thought it would be relatable for a lot of folks. Working from home is a weird thing and there's so much misunderstanding around it still. I think if you've done it, then you know how it is, but if you've never done it then you just don't understand, which is fair.

I was telling my husband about this video and if you asked Dan his opinion about what you make for your Etsy shop and website. And I wondered to him if I asked his opinion about what I make for my Etsy shop and he said "You have an Etsy shop??" Well, guess my work doesn't get in the way! But full disclosure, we're probably older than most of you; I'm 69, he's 77. Yes, I need my people!!

Your thread board is a great idea but I think the costs of production vs the cost of shipping would be prohibitive and it would be hard to make enough out of each one to justify the effort. I needed somewhere to store my thread reels for my sewing machine. I found a hack on Instagram and made one out of IKEA plate racks, because as lovely as the pre made ones were, I just could not justify the cost.

I think it's difficult for people to label handmade and crafting businesses as "real" because it's something we do from a creative side. They equate it with fun and hobbies in their own brains so it automatically goes in yhat category for a lot of people. Even if you made a million dollars a year at it

I suspect that your comment regarding him recognizing what you do as a business was spot on--you don't work outside the home therefore what you do isn't a "real" business. That's not true, but I understand the thinking. Working from home, by oneself, is more difficult than most folks realize. Love the doggo too.

Exactly, he knows it's important, but it's just a different shade of important. Crafting is also something I've always done ever since we've known each other and it did start off as a hobby. Plus a big part of my business is KZbin which let's be honest, is a weird way to earn a living! 😄

I have a feeling that what Dan meant to say is that, your business FEELS like extension of your creativity. It is work, but in a different way that we traditionally understand work and jobs. You flow and it is natural for you. You obviously need to put *much* effort to it. But it is not like a regular job. It is somehow very different way of living and earning your money. There is lightness to it. And that's why is does not FEEL like serious business which will pay the bills and bring money in 😅 Even that it does! So hope that you did not kill him off the camera lol 😅😂😂😂
