Mijn grootvader was fan van Within Temptation. Van artiesten die hij goed vond draaide hij concert-dvd's. Hij overleed in 2018 op 83-jarige leeftijd. Ik herinner hem als een man die niet keek naar subculturen of stereotypes. Hij luisterde naar wat hij mooi vond. En godsamme, wat is dit mooi!

Ik kwam in die tijd regelmatig in de RS29 studio waar dit album opgenomen was. De orkestraties die Rene Merkelbach aan het maken was, het mixen van Stephan. Oscar als producent. Ik zat op de achtergrond mee te luisteren en was diep onder de indruk. Ik had zodoende het gehele album al gehoord voordat het uitkwam. Dat was toch wel bijzonder.

Ja, ik weet het, het is een Finse band maar Floor haar rol binnen en buiten Nightwish is wereldwijd ongeëvenaard. Mogen we wel openlijk trots op zijn.

Fanclub-dag zomer 2001 van het WT-fanforum. Want eerder die week was de videoclip voor het eerst gedraaid op TMF. Maar niet iedereen in Nederland had toegang tot die zender. Dus iemand in Deventer organiseerde een fanclub-meeting zodat we allemaal de clip konden zien.... 😁 Voor de zomervakantie vonden klasgenoten dat ik maar rare muziek draaide dat schooljaar. Na de zomervakantie allemaal vragen of ik die cd bij me had want ze wilden ook meeluisteren. 🤦🤦🤦

It’s a great song, but Within Temptation’s music is waaaay better. :p And if rock or metal or big symphonic music isn’t your thing, she also released an indie folky pop album just a few years ago, called My Indigo. It’s really quite lovely. :)

Robert's brother Martijn had an amazing band called Delain that broke up not long ago. They never got as big as Within Temptation but they were a really great pop-metal band.

He is still in Delain. And the new album will be amazing. Martijn also wrote music for the Mother Earth album. And the previous Within Temptation albums are also partly written by Martijn.

A little weird to have an interview about the story behind Ice Queen without it being mentioned that the original title and lyrics were completely different. Would have been interesting to know what made them decide to change it.

I’ve always been under the impression that they came up with the music and melody first, and the “Believer” lyrics were just filler to have an idea of what the song would sound like. Those demo lyrics are extremely repetitive, and not very good, haha. So Sharon probably wouldn’t consider Believer to be an actual part of the song, and the Ice Queen that we know and love is what the song really is meant to be. At least that’s what I’d think.

They were mostly famous in Europe, especially in their earlier years. I don’t think Ice Queen made any impact in Australia at the time. Keep in mind this was even before Evanescence released Bring Me To Life, so this type of music was less mainstream than it is now. Even this band has become more mainstream and they have a much more global following now, but they’re still fantastic. :)

@@Top2000agogo How nice would it be to also make an item about Nightwish / Floor Jansen? Nightwish is the biggest band in the genre and Within Temptation is probably the second biggest band. The story of how Floor joined Nightwish in the middle of a world tour is stunning and how she made Ghost Love Score her own and turned it into an absolute classic during the same tour is very interesting. I would love to see this story being told as well in Top 2000 a Gogo. And having Nightwish and Within Temptation in the same show is a treat for the fans :-).

That was Mariah Carey her voice in that clip. There is a live video out there where Mariah sings that song and tries to go even higher, to the point of it almost hunting the ears as it feels as if your ears start to ring. Amazing to achieve that note though, as it isn't easy.
