I wish this model looked as elegant as the previous withings.There are very few smart looking activity trackers, the sort that look nice in a meeting.

Cool tracker, looks like a normal watch. I have one, and within a couple of months, the minute hand started lagging randomly. I cannot trust the "analog" time to be correct at all, and have to reset it several times a day. Many owners seem to experience the same issue and Withings never comments or comes up with a solution. I would have got the next generation (scanwatch) if it did not show the same issue… (but it does according to several forums, it does )

Was always a fan of their design, even before Nokia bought them. However, there fitness tracking was subpar. I wonder if they've tightened their algorithms.

Only reason I want this and not any of the other popular brands is because it doesn't look geeky and wannabe fitnessy. I know so many people who have fitbits, apple watches, garmin and so on, only for the geekiness, but they don't actually do much exercise (just pretending to by showing off their fitness watch).

After all these years, likely still the best-looking hybrid out there. However, if you are looking for sleep tracking and you don't sleep your full 6-8 hours at night, this is not for you. It doesn't record any sleep that is below 3 hours. So, if your sleep is fragmented in several parts throughout the day and night (like mine due to work), stick with the chunky but reliable Fossil HR Collider or its clone, the Skagen HR Jorn. They both record sleep as short as 1 hour.

I remember people complained about the Withings when they were bought by Nokia. The main complain was that Nokia totally forgot about the watch and its app support. Has that changed now when Withings are Withings again?
@thientamvo
@thientamvo 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I can attest for that. Days after Withings was bought back from Nokia, they enable multiple app notification on the Steel HR & allow for multiple alarms, something that should have been done years ago

Nice design as usual from Withings. I have the Steel HR, great looking watch IMHO, but there a two problems with it. 1) The tracking simply doesn't work. The distances after a run is way off compared to the tracking in my phone and other and other sports watches. And we shouldn't even talk about the heart rate. 2) The quality is lacking. There are moisture on the inside of the glass in the watch - and the same thing happened to my friend (who sent it back though since he got the problem earlier than me). So when its cold outside and you go inside its hard to read the numbers on the watch because of this.

You should contact Withings. I bought the original Withings Steel HR in April 2017 and had the same moisture problem. The Withings service department was very kind and offered the new version (I had to weight some weeks for that) which appeared to be the Nokia Steel HR (with a redesigned back). With this new watch (received in Nov 2017) I never experienced any moisture problems, and am quite sure the quality problems you mentioned have been solved. As to the heart rate: I can compare to my TomTom Adventure sport watch (I wear both when I go for long runs as the TomTom has GPS, offers speed and other running info on the spot) - heart rate readings are (almost) identical. Same when I compare to the hear rates measured by my Galaxy S7 Edge. So at least for me the hear rate seems absolutely fine (to an impressive degree, I would say). However, I fully agree with the distance estimates: they are way off on the Steel HR (some +20% overestimation). This is probably rather normal for a non-GPS watch, but it would be nice if we could at least adjust/calibrate the step to distance conversion based on some known distances (e.g. using your phone, or another GPS-equipped device). Anyhow, the connected GPS offered by this new Steel HR Support should solve that problem. Last week I received an update to the watch software: the updated version offers notifications that have been extended and have become very useful now (quite a big difference). Final thought: what I like most about the watch, apart from the attractive understated design, is the really impressive battery life: I have been recording battery% readings (on a daily basis) in an Excel file since I've received the watch. I usually get 25 days on one charg (best result: 28 days; worst result: 23 days). That really does it for me: you can on holidays for 3 weeks with a fully charged watch and you don't even have to bother about taking a charger....

hellosurprise you likely have an early model, Withings will swap it out for their newer revision if you contact them with photos of the condensation. Just had mine switched out. The newer revision basically has the same back as the sport in this video with the one charge pin dock and a smaller center heart rate area. The new one also has a firmware update that gives it the connected gps that makes running distance tracking more accurate. I’d contact them if you’re having issues. They swapped mine even thought it was out of warranty.

It uses the smartphone gps for tracking. The older steel hr also does support this with a firmware update. The sport mostly looks sportier.
