You could say DIY is in my blood! With my first words being “me do it” and growing up to renovate our first home with my own two hands, I’m definitely a DIYer to my core! In today’s episode, we are starting from the beginning - growing up in a creative household and heading off the college to my many careers before DIYing our home and starting my KZbin channels.

Perfect timing for your new channel! At 81, at the beginning of this year, I told myself I was no longer just going to look and listen to life, but begin to live life! So I have started to do sketches of my cats, write and try some new creative activities. Those are things I let slide for far too long. Within the next couple of weeks I will finish recovering my pair of Savonarola chairs! I believe watching what you do has had a great impact on my life so I will be a faithful follower! Also I love seeing Romeo, your family and Kinsley...thank you for taking time to share with all of us ❣

MaCenna, I know you will probably never read this but I feel compelled to write it anyways. Im 26 and going through exactly what you spoke about - trying to figure out my place in the world, exhausting myself with my corporate 9-5, and wondering what my next steps are. Your KZbin channels have been my comfort places for the last few years as I’ve navigated relationships, going back to school, jobs and the pandemic. This podcast felt like sitting in my living room with a close friend, confiding and swapping stories with each other. Thank you for this. I can’t wait to hear more of whatever it is you choose to share with us. ❤️

9:30 You've done exactly that for me ! I'm thinking of building a tiny house with my dad's help and I was telling him about it, and he was like nope we can't do that, like cabinetry and stuff. I was like haha nope, MaCenna went from awkwardly handling her first power tool to building freaking professionnal grade kitchen cabinets, if she can do this, so can I ! This is the definition of inspiration for me, thank you for convincing me that I got this and giving me the courage to be confident to tell him he was underestimating us !

I’m a clothing designer and interior designer and also worked as a music festival producer and now I have been stay at home mom for a 4 years. I just felt so lonely and didn’t have any creative outlets. I always felt like I can do anything and felt so frustrated with not knowing what I should do with my little time. Year ago I met someone who has become my best friend and together we started flipping furniture, did Vintage Market Days and now starting a business together. You are such an inspiration for young women. As a woman who is much further down the road, in fact now retired, I wonder how you balance being a powerhouse with your relationship with Romeo. We hopefully will get to know about that relationship more as you move down the podcast road, but I wonder how you balance that. I think young subscribers need that content too. What is his profession? Is he engaged in anything other than a Rosebowl booth? Do you see him as a stay at home dad? Young women could benefit enormously by your opening up about the power balance of your relationship.

I was honestly tearing up hearing you talk about your journey because it felt so relatable. I'm a young 25 year old that worked non-stop to finish school early and hopped straight into big 4 accounting. I quit a little over a year ago after working in a big 4 firm for 3.5 years cause I was so tired and no longer happy. I just hit my one year at my new company doing internal audit-type things and even now I question if accounting is what I want to do the rest of my life because I'd rather do something where I could be creative all day. So long story short, you're very inspiring and you give me hope and ideas. Maybe one day I'll dive head-first (but the accountant in me is very afraid of the risk). Something that I've considered is opening an Etsy shop. I know that you help your mom with hers and I think it would be a neat podcast to delve into all of that. I joined an Etsy seller FB page and there's so many negative stories and horror stories of customers scamming or another shop stealing work or Etsy automatically refunding a customer who files a complaint and doesn't even look into the situation before refunding. I'd love to know what you and your mom's experience has been like on this platform or if there are other platforms you've used and the pros and cons of those. You also created website and that would be neat to hear about too! Sorry for the extremely long comment.

I always tell my Mom about my friends Macenna and Rachel (Metz) when she asks me how I know how to do certain things. I replaced my sister's taillights, my godmother's interior car lights, fixed my toilet and replaced the tub spout in my bathtub thanks to KZbin videos. I love that you both show your errors too, those help steer us in the right direction! When I was 9, I had a split flap alarm clock and took it apart to learn how it works. I thought I broke it but I was able to put it back together and it fully functioned again. If you couldn't explain in detail how things worked, I was going to figure it out myself. I feel like we're kindred spirits. Hugs for you, mama, Romeo and Kinsley!!

I would really love to have you show us, your audience, photos and videos of older work that you did in design - such as anything from the store you and your mother had when you were in high school. Or other design interiors you have done. A visual portfolio? And one for your mom? And how did she get her start in painting?

The podcast is great! One of the fun things is watching you and Romeo when you traveled to Europe. Please think about including weekend getaways and travel in the podcast or blog. I’m very excited about your Mom as a guest. She is my contemporary and I love her feistiness and grit. She’s a special person and I admire your relationship.💕

I am so glad you are doing this podcast. I have been watching on KZbin for about 4 years. I have seen your design esthetic develop and become more refined. I would love to hear you reflect on that development. Your Mom. YES! Drew. Yes! And Romeo too if he wants to. I think you may have overlooked a big thing in your character that has made you successful. You are soooo authentically You! When I read some of the comments it is obvious that people find real connections with you. When I get teary because you have done something spectacular , I think....this is weird...I don't even know her. But really I do because you are just vulnerable enough to show us YOU!. Thannk you MaCenna. ❤

I am 29 now going on to 30 in May and totally feel what you felt. I quit my job last year but I have something right now. Ever since I've started watching your videos I've been inspired, I just need consistency and believing in myself a little more. Literally felt teary when you were explaining your 11th month and struggling before you finally made it. I've had so many moments like that in the last 5 years. I think since your mom is going to be on alot, we need to hear her back story and all about her painting skills and how she started that and of course little stories of little Macenna 😅

MaCenna - I want to know to know ALL THE THINGS!!!!! ❤❤❤ I am a long time subscriber to your other 2 KZbin channels and so appreciate you sharing your journey and creations with us! First thing - when are you and Romeo getting married???? By the time this podcast has aired you and Romeo bought a house in LA, have already moved in, and you have really been talking about starting a family. How do you think having children will affect your DIY projects? I am so glad you have started this podcast as I have been dying to know more about the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. I am looking forward to learning more about Romeo and his vintage T-Shirt business. I would love to hear his background story like you shared with us today. I am excited that your Mom will be a frequent guest - I LOVE HER!!! She is such a talented artist and I love all of her paintings! And I LOVE Drew - he would be such an awesome guest!!! So looking forward to the next episode - YOU GO GIRL AND DO "ALL THE THINGS" WITH YOUR OWN TWO HANDS!!! 👐👐👐🦸🦸🦸

I also enjoy DIYhuntress, Lone Fox, B Jones Style, Amanda’s Mercantile, Laura Caldwell of left coast revivals and Margot Roth. Homeworthy and HGTV handmade always has great creative people too you can prob reach out to. Big dream guests: Justina Blakely, Nate and Jeremiah, Jillian Harris, Eddie Ross, ohhhh Christiane Lemieux would be excellent. I think those could be good fits. Congrats on the pod!

Hey MaCenna, I’m starting an interior decorating diploma next month, here in New Zealand, and have just finished a joinery course last year. I see a lot of myself in you! (That’s just one of the many reasons I enjoy your KZbin content). 😊 I too, like you did, would like to start my own you tube channel. I just need to get my confidence up, as like Romeo, I’m a little camera shy😊 I was wondering, what advice would you give to someone at the start of their KZbin journey? It’s such a steep learning curve. What should I focus on? Plus, what sort of camera/mike situation and editing program would you recommend ? I do of course have an iPhone, so was going to start by using that. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, 🙏🏽 thank you Oh and the three guests you said, your mum ( such a lovely lady, so much fun), Romeo and Drew would be amazing ( that’s how I found your channel, was through watching Drew’s). A guest I’d love to see on your channel , is another you tuber called Laura Caldwell, who has the channel ‘Left coast revival’. She specialises in mid-century modern design, and regularly goes thrifting up in Oregon. It would be so cool to see you guys just chat about design. Anyways, thanks for all your channels, you’re such an inspiration. 🎉🙏🏽

Hi MaCenna! Could you do an episode on how to go about DIY's, decorating, and minor repairs for those who live in apartments...particularly "landlord specials" like myself. It can be so daunting and discouraging to have such limited options on where your able to afford to live, so it would be helpful to know how to tackle optimizing a "landlord special" to fit a more homey and aesthetic style. For reference, I live in the Dallas, TX area and pay about $1,300 for about a 700 sq.feet space with my sister and 3 cats. Thank you for all that you do!

You are awesome! Love your cuteness. I need a kick in the butt for my E-bay store. I've been just letting it linger, putting off listing. I probably have 60 tubs full of beautiful things. It would be a designer's dream. Very picky about what I thrift. I'm also a collector, which is also a problem. I have a good eye and know good things when I see them. Worked in fine jewelry for 10 years, and I'm pretty much retired now. I have been doing my E-bay store part-time for 5 years. Listening and watching you is so motivating and definitely inspirational for me.
