I professed belief and then decided it wasn't for me a few days after back in Ninth grade. Up until almost two years ago, I considered myself to not be a Christian. While I have friends that are Christian, and especially one very nice friend who helped me attend church after I came back to Jesus, no one in my immediate family is religious and I have several nonreligious/ex-Christian friends that professed Christianity before I ever did and when I met them. I felt like a lone wolf. . .or rather, a lone sheep in a field of intimidating wolves. I learned a lot through the guidance of the Holy Spirit these past few years. I am very fortunate to have good friends and a good church I can go to for fellowship, because for a while my lack of it did not always help. Whenever I would be forced to stay away from fellowship because of circumstances, it would always drain me.

Since I have begun my walk with Christ, I have had VERY few friends. Some days it feels like I don’t have any. But very slowly, God has started to introduce new relationships in my life. The word “friend “ is a very overused and mis-used word these days. Please don’t base your Christian life on how many “friends” you have. Work on being close with Jesus and He will supply ALL of your needs.

What if you have no Christian friends............ Or friends for that matter.......? ☹️ I've found that Christians are just like everyone else when it comes to friendships... people like to be friends with people who they have in common with or people with 'great' personalities. For someone like me who is quite shy, awkward, quiet and 'dull', no one seems to want to be friends with me. I have lots of Christian acquaintances (from prayer groups, bible studies etc.) but when it comes to friendships... no one was ever interested. Christians are supposed to be outcasts of this world because we don't belong in this world. Yet I feel like an outcast among outcasts. But at least I have a true friend in Christ who is there for me no matter what. I might not have had Christian friends... but Christ is the one who is sustaining me and my faith. I depend on Him alone. I don't know why I just wrote that lol. Too much personal info to be sharing with strangers on the internet.

I know what you mean. I ended up with wild friends after attending church for years, because the worldly friends actually phoned me and wanted to talk and spend time with me. Now, I have just started attending church again. They're very polite and welcoming and have Christ exalting services, but no one seems like a "friend" -- someone you can call and chat with. The politeness is so ... stiff and formal. The difference NOW, however, is that I am determined to BE a friend, be supportive, ask for phone numbers so I can offer to babysit, etc. This time, even though I'm shy and introverted and prefer to follow other's lead, I am determined to give and give and give and not expect anything in return. Because ... when I stopped going to church (and no one called me or cared), I ended up on dangerous ground! I need the church. To love the church, really love them, is the only way, because otherwise I'll just forever wish they would love me the way that I refuse to love them, first.

I also feel like this when it comes to christian friends but I noticed that I myself have not put in the effort that I want others to put in when it comes to getting to know me. So now I want to be proactive and focus on how I can treat others how I want them to treat me. It's hard if you're introverted or shy but it's definitely worth it.

I have had a lonely childhood for well over 20 plus years, I felt making friends with my peers was impossible. Being mildly autistic didn't help out either and as a result I idolized many characters. But by God's grace, I saw the fruit of making older friends by the time I turned 19 or 20. Now I have been blessed with a young adults group and fellowship with them, pray, and living life with them has really grounded me to never give up in seeking community amongst fellow believers. Without my Christian friends, I don't know where I would be in my life. I thank God for his grace in this and to know more of who Christ is with the friends he has given me.

If you do not have friends and they have all turned against you and no one loves you God loves you with an unconditional love. Only God can say when you die. God gives life and takes it away. God can preserve your life until he is ready to take you home. And even then i shall not die but i shall live says the Lord God almighty. I have a hard time with relationships because I don't know how to really open up to others. It's a personality defect and I end up with a lot of shallow aquaintance type relationships, but no true deep friendships. I feel like God gives me opportunities but I just don't want to try to cultivate any or risk rejection. It's something that I struggle with and I hate it. Good friends are worth more than gold.

I came out of jehovah witness so i lost all my "friends". I began visiting some churches but i find them so weak. There are so many church goers but not real christians and that brakes my heart. The pastors screaming and chanting people raising their hand but all of that is meaningless to me. So i have to make it on my own i study on my own, pray on my own, i made the lords supper on my own. After all im not really on my own the holy spirit is my guide and teacher. I have many pastors as well here in youtube and i listen to them. I hope that i could find my real brothers and serve with them. Until then i fight alone with my guide and my master Jesuschrist.

HighLighterlines finally someone who experience same situation as me. So happy so glad to hear about your salvation. Never worry about standing alone, because Jesus sticks closer than a brother and this only matters. It's so much helpful having genuine followers of Christ as friends who can encourage you and you can encourage them, but if you don't have them just make sure to abide in Jesus. My pastor once told me that it's important to attend church regulary because otherwise it's like a single burning coal lying far away from the group, its light will soon die. But I don't agree. What is impossible with men, is possible with God.

HighLighterlines. I know exactly how you feel. I was saved baptised when I was very young. Went to Pentecostal church my child hood years. Ive only met a handful of people who are truly filled with the spirit and want to talk about Jesus and his power. You cant wait to see them because you strengthen each other praising Jesus. Only a few in my 42 years. Most want to change the subject and don't want to talk about Jesus or the realty of hell. Thats what Jesus meant when he said few will find it. Most are sun and wed church goers and don't even believe in Jesus as being real and alive. Say "Jesus" and you'll know who believes and who doesn't. Hold fast. You cant even imagine the glory and what awaits u in the Kingdom for your true belief in Christ, our lord.

same here. me and my husband worshipping the Lord through spirit and in truth. its hard to say this but im not well satisfied with those churches around me. worldy churcher. its not really of Christ. first, i thought i was just being judgmental but the Holy Spirit also revealed to us what is right. most preachers today will lead their members into fleshly desires. and the saddest part is, me and my husband find it weird for both of us. living in a world that full of lies! really we struggle in a some situation more often. but thank God for always allowing us,teaching us, convicting about our sins everyday. tru the work of the Holy Spirit, my heart is changing to be more like Christ.

Hey brother if your looking for a perfect church you will never find one. Find a church close to you and get to know some of the people there. Maybe they need some one like you to wake them up and get them going. You my not think it or feel it but you have somthing to offer others my friend we all do. I understand what your feeling brother. I am in the same boat, everyone at work is not a Christian, at least the social people. It is hard to be a light in the middle of darkness. I have had two real and close christian brothers in the past 17 yrs, that was before I moved away 10+yrs ago. People at church seem to have their clicks or work a whole bunch of hours. It is depressing when you are all alone in this life. I talk to nonchristian people a lot, though often time i can't talk long due to some of things they desire to talk about. Often times one tries to test and see if i am genuine. It is a very hard road and it make you question yourself or question whether how many that call themselves brothers and sisters are who they claim to be. Either way this is not what God would have it to be.

This is so true. I haven't had alot of friends growing up and it's was super lonely. Although when I got older I am finding it good people in my life I can call friends. So blessed to have a small circle . It hurts when people isolate and I worry about people who don't want to be around their fellows. I'm sorry, but I don't think you need Christian friends, maybe no friends at all. I'm going through a rough season right now. My best friend, a person who I called brother, has distanced himself from me, and I've never felt agony like this before. I think though, God wants me to truly rely on his word, which I think he is allowing right now in order to bring me closer to him. So, I'm going to distance myself for awhile now, work on my relationship with Christ and see what happens in a few months. Pray for me brothers and sisters as I will for you. God bless

I’m in the exact same position. My best friend who I though of as a brother has distanced himself from me. Him and my other best friend have started dating and the agony and hurt that I feel watching my two best friends disappear is so heartbreaking, but just like you I also believe that God wants me to truly rely on his word. I totally misunderstood the title. "You will die without good friends" - I literally superimposed the terms and interpreted it as, "At the end of life, you will have no good friends". It actually means, "Without good friends, you will slowly die". Its a great sermon but the grammatical structure of the video title can be misleading.

So desiringgod.com is a good cite to visit and he has hundreds of books that you can read to add to your Bible reading. Lilac Milkshake agreed. Backsliding is referring to what the prodigal son did. He truly didn't understand his Father's love or what He had in store for Him. He thought he knew better but then realized he needed to return to His Father. Christians may have a moment that this occurs in their lives but this doesn't negate the working out of their salvation. It's part of the growth of trusting Jesus. We may have moments of imperfection. Just because we repent and place our trust in Jesus doesn't mean we are always going to desire God and live perfect lives. In fact it will become a war like it says in Galatians. That's how we grow

Have you tried telling them what they've done wrong? Back up your claims by comparing their actions to what the Word says. If they don't respond, tell someone you know, who knows them, who would listen. But yes, don't follow or be pressured by what they do that you know is wrong. Keep yourself apart and be an example of to them of the Godliness you want to see in them.

those are signs that he might not have true saving faith. if he is a member of a biblical church , the commandments of Matthew 18 should be followed if he is obviously in sin with no desire to repent

msdeety Hey there! Those signs could mean he isn't genuinely saved. He needs to be encouraged to examine himself to know if he's truly in the faith. On the other hand, it could be he's saved but backsliding. He could be going through a 'season' of spiritual dryness. And that's where Hebrews 3:12-13 & Galatians 6:1 comes in. You should correct & admonish him in love & gentleness. Your church, pastor & spiritual leaders should also be carried along.. as the other comment points out. In all of these things.. keep a watch on your own heart. Dont let anger or bitterness creep in. Your attitude through the process matters a lot too. Stay in love. God bless!

I hope he's just using this phrase to be provocative. We are kept "saved" by Christ. If my eternal salvation depended on my Christian friends or worse, my friends depended on my being their friend what a sad state we'd be in. Christ keeps us, Christ preserves us, His word feeds us. I suspect it is both meant and also meant to be provocative. I've listened to a lot of Piper, so I think he is already assuming his listeners know that we are saved by Christ, and by no one apart from Christ - I am sure he agrees with you there - but he would say that God works through MEANS, that He uses instruments to accomplish his purposes, and one of those very important instruments for keeping you saved is your Christian friends. Read Hebrews 3:12-13 for context (he quotes verse 13 early in the video), and note for example (God keeping by means) that Jude says both we are kept by God and we also keep ourselves. A possibly illustrative metaphor: our Great Physician keeps us well by prescribing us medicine, and some of that medicine is our Christian friends. To borrow from Ephesians 4, in Christ our fellow members of His body hold the body together and make it grow (Ephesians 4:11-16).

The parable of the unforgiving servant the man was forgiven and His debt was wiped clear. That means the sin he could not pay for was wiped clear. The wages of that sin was death but the King👑 paid it for him. After be begged for mercy... Then the forgiven man whose debt was cleared because he was saved. Went out and did not forgive others... He does not. From what I've gathered, I think he believes that God perfectly foreordains not only that believers will be preserved until the end in their salvation in Christ, but also God perfectly foreordains *how* (or the means) that that will come to pass. This appears to be one of those means.

My issue is that I’m isolated but not completely. I do have people but I just don’t see Christians who would pour into people. It isn’t a 1 way streak when disciples seek people and it should be us seeking our disciples. I hear wayyyy to many excuses why you can’t be encouraging to one another. I’m going to be speaking to my small group about this because it does feel isolating when you don’t have it. It’s very disappointing that we see more churches of favoritism than churches of God.

I resent that Piper assumes that God will just provide Christians with other Christian friends, or Christian acquaintances at least who care about the spiritual health of their fellow brother/sister. Piper has been too blessed with friends to understand how widely broken the church is. I struggle with same sex attraction and ungodly relationships with members of the same sex because over the years I found no love within the church. Occasionally a pastor might treat you like a new project, but that ends... I wonder what God thinks of all this. Is he angry at Christians with amazing outgoing personas and abundant social circles in the church who ignore the liners and misfits? I’m increasingly doubtful 😞

I think it's really up for the Holy Spirit to confirm. But don't forget our calling. Preach the gospel to every creature! Why Piper has this pleasure in condemn people instead of guiding them into the gospel. When he read the letter of the woman in fornication and seek some help saying those things will create a fake repentance, since the main thing that they will develope is that people come to Christ just because they were terrified of hell. We can't use fear as tool to preach the gospel because people will never learn to love Jesus properly and what we have in place is a legalism based on the terror of hell. Piper has good messages but I always find that his approach is awful, hell exists and we must preach about it but we cannot use that as a mechanism to manipulate others into God. If you are into counseling we know that this kind of approach it's a common mistake that makes people worst.
