It happens a lot in the USA, and it could be just going shopping, or out to a concert, or to church, etc. Hell, sometimes the guy just walks in the bank and executes everybody in sight. See the story out of Sebring FL that got practically NO ATTENTION last year, when Zephen Xaver walked into a SunTrust bank and executed five employees, and one customer. All were women. Of course nobody really knows what his motive was. He only took innocent lives.

The security guard showed the highest level of courage. Knowing he had been shot and disabled by that, not knowing the potentially mortal nature of his wounds, he went back to confront the robber while knowing he was facing a high capacity high power rifle with a pistol. Yeah, TEC-9s are notoriously unreliable. They're complete garbage but they can put out a lot of rounds and were dirt cheap at the time so gangsters and amateur criminals loved them. The way the handgun jammed is called a stovepipe, it happens with certain handguns when you don't hold them firmly enough because the slide doesn't go all the way back. It's a good thing the consequences of both mistakes happened to show themselves at the same time.

I can't imagine entering that transient apartment at night with low lighting and all those other people laying around sleeping, looking for one suspect who was armed and had no problem with killing. Scared the hell out of me just watching it.
