In the beginning of my walk with Christ, I felt a conviction about drinking and noticed the dependence I was developing on alcohol. I understand the destruction alcohol causes and how poisonous it is to the body and mind. It is important to consider what the need or desire to consume alcohol? I consider the importance of a sober-mind and heart posture of love whenever I consume anything, especially food and music. I thank God for nourishment and renewal.

This is off topic, but one way I see the friendship and love between the Perrys is that Jackie will talk over, under and around Preston while he’s trying to get something out and he is NOT phased! 😂 She knows she is safe to do it without it being a problem (I assume). ❤ I clearly don’t love people enough yet. I loved the part about Jackie speaking on stewarding her influence as a mom who is always on her phone. I don’t have kids of my own but I play a huge role in helping my sister raise my nephews, and have never thought about the influence I have on them always watching the tv, or being on my own phone 😭 I’m constantly trying to work on me, reading, learning, Bible study, ordering groceries etc. I literally do everything on my phone too! Definitely brought that to light for me, going to work on being more mindful of that influence.

Regarding drinking topic: My go-to reference/ anecdote as a new believer is going to be this- while drinking itself isn’t the sin, drunkenness is because of all the reasons Preston stated; then point them to what happened in the Bible 1st time someone got drunk that we heard about (if I remember correctly); when Noah got drunk & fell asleep naked in the yard, causing his son to sin by mocking his father’s nakedness & being exposed to him in such a condition. This caused a curse to be put on not only his son Japheth, but on Japheth’s entire lineage! Had Noah never been drunk, Japheth might have always shown nothing but utmost respect to his father & never been exposed to a curse that effects the human race still to this day- then I’d tell the person this- now, fast-forward to today & think about just 1 adult you’ve known closely enough growing up who suffered from drunkenness even once (or alcoholism), including maybe a parent or even yourself before Christ… now think of how respect was lost for them or for you when others saw them/you in that condition? Then think further on the number of people in that same lineage who was affected by that sin & who might have even continued that stronghold on the remaining lineage after theirs? While the occasional weak drink may be harmless, Jesus said be sober-minded; this will require discipline in ALL areas, including drinking, smoking, fornication, idolatry, pride, etc. Because when you think of it, you can technically get “drunk” or “high” off ANY sin & lose your self-control thus your righteousness 🤷🏽♀️
@MrTwade20064 ай бұрын
Believe me, I’m not correcting to be the person that is being smarter, I just wanted to let you know it was Ham son Canaan that Noah cursed. It’s so much information in the Bible and it’s really easy to get names mixed up, I’ve done it many times. I just wanted to share with you in love because I want every one who loves Christ to share His word in love and truth. God bless us all for loving our Lord enough to share!

“If it’s in God’s Word, we should teach it. … I don’t serve people by hiding the Word of God.” -Preston Perry Amen! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏾🙌🏾💯💯💯 When it comes to clothing, as Jackie mentioned, I’ve had modesty modeled by women in my family. I’ve always been dressing this way as I’ve been taught to, and I’ll continue to do so through the rest of my life. “You don’t have to change up, because you’re already changed. … How you are as a disciple influences the way you influence.” -Jackie Hill Perry ❤️❤️♥️♥️💯💯 41:19 - 41:36 ------- “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” -Matthew chapter 6 , verse 6, KJV

I definitely feel like I misused my small audience. People knew I was a Christian, but I didn't behave the way I did around my siblings in the church or the way I acted during the work week. I saw my online platform as almost a separate, secret way to behave; a second life. I didn't want to crucify that part of myself for the sake of witness. The Lord's been speaking to me about it a lot, thinking about how to relaunch my online presence in a way that fears Him and honors the Gospel while still pouring into the people He's allowed me to have influence over.

This was great word 👏🏽. It challenged me ! For anybody struggling with the drinking context of the video . Read Romans 14:23 the second part says “ ….If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.” Romans 14:23 NLT Sin is sin . However outside of that God gives us all personal convictions. If you don’t follow YOUR PERSONAL convictions then that also is sin . I don’t drink because that is a personal conviction . We can’t press our personal convictions on others and condemn them ! I love how y’all brought up making sure we aren’t doing things because “fear” of man . Always check your motives . Trying to please man isn’t honoring God !

This really helped me with my struggle about drinking alcohol or buying nice things for myself as a Christian taking this walk seriously. I would go back and forth on it bc I’m cautious I’m being too worldly. This gave me language and freedom to focus on stewardship and not put extra burdens on myself trying to meet an unwritten standard. Really good convo!

I'm just reading Ecclesiastes 5 and 6 related to possessions, wealth, food and drink. Ecclesiastes 5:10-12 ESV [10] He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. [11] When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes? [12] Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much, but the full stomach of the rich will not let him . Ecc 6:7-9 [7] All the toil of man is for his mouth, yet his appetite is not satisfied. [8] For what advantage has the wise man over the fool? And what does the poor man have who knows how to conduct himself before the living? [9] Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the appetite: this also is vanity and a striving after the wind. These 2 chapters seem to emphasize contentment and gratitude without using those words.

I find this so incredibly encouraging! Particularly in the parental influence space, I only ever heard my mother explode on men, disrespecting them in any argument until she essentially shouted them down both my father and stepfather… I say this because I did not know that I would inherently find my ex-husband to be my enemy in any given disagreement. I was disrespectful and then he doubled down with abuse, it became a vicious cycle that Satan surely delighted in because we eventually divorced. I pray that one day I’ll have a male figure for my child to look up to and see me treating/treated with respect, even if that man is just a friend. I realize I may have missed the marriage boat but if I can I’ll make sure she knows how to have respectful disputes ♥️

That's it right there recognizing the need to bring back the actual and tangible posture for things like reading, banking, etc. Our phone is a microwave for functionality yet it has destroyed healthy boundaries so we have to practically add back healthy boundaries and allow our children to see us read the actual Bible, and they know social media is not accessible from the tangible Bible. Depending on their ages it may be possible to show them I'm using my phone or tablet to audible the Bible when needed but have your actual Bible out to read along with the audible.

I think about famous people in Christian spaces. They have so much influence. If they would walk upright before God they could lead so many to Jesus. Maybe they have in the past, but you can do a good thing and go away from God and all the things you've done can be undone. Influence is important even when your not famous since the majority of the time your life as a Christian is your testimony to those around you. Our childern weren't raised in Christ so my husband and I make sure we live holy so that they can see and be persuaded to live for Jesus.
