I found a church last year after not going for YEARS. Now I’m there so much, and am always one of the lasts to leave. This community has impacted my life in such a large way; it’s such a blessing to experience the love of Christ with people that love Him just as much as you do. If you haven’t been in a while, please do not forsake the assembly. There’s a reason we need each other. Join a church, and serve, and commune with the body of Christ. It’s vital

Charles Stanley is another. He was the first non charismatic preacher I listened to and I actually started to LEARN something 💕
@robinwade8141 Жыл бұрын
Charles Stanley definitely left a mark on mankind. He was on point and the thing that I liked about him most is he NEVER brought politics into the pulpit. I think that is my biggest pet peeve about how ppl use the pulpit to get their agenda’s known. I’ve stopped listening to two pastors that I like that have sound doctrine (it’s unfortunate too) because they brought politic into their messages. Our political system is definitely set up by man even though they can’t do anything without God allowing it. But voting is personal and to me and should remain personal. Because I study the Bible daily, when I hear a pastor continue to misrepresent I stop listening to them. My husband and I are trying to find a church now because I feel it’s important to be present. But I do attend a Bible study weekly, have a prayer partner and listen to strong teachings. I think we just have to pray for repentance for ppl that don’t share the true gospel because we all are fallen and for sure need Christ. I think sometimes it’s pride but only God can correct that in ppl, but prayer goes a long way.

This makes me think about itching ears! I also believe that the “boring” preaching teaches discipline, and reveals things about where you are in your flesh and spiritual walk in Christ. The same for listening to gospel music. It’s like are you really able to worship God or are you in your emotions. Again this is my own personal perspective via the things I myself encountered. This conversation really blessed me. I enjoy these kinds of conversations.

Yea, I remember Fracnis chan talking about someone complaining to him how they "Didn't like worship today" and he was like " That's OK, we weren't worshipping you." That's always stuck with me now when I hear people complain about worship they fear of the Lord comes. It's nice to have skilled worshipers, but that's not always possible. At the end of the day, it's about our hearts.

First of all, I would just like to say that I love your podcast and I’ve learned so much from listening to you. There have been times I have literally been driving in my car and pulled over to write something down that you said. Y’all touched on something today that I see a lot in my own community: Consumer Christianity … how many people bounce around looking for the trendiest church, or the most entertaining pastors. I think we should all pray for wisdom and discernment, and seek pastors and leaders who point us to Jesus and speak the Word first and foremost. If they aren’t teaching scripture more than anything else this should be a red flag. We need to get away from going to church with an attitude of selfish fulfillment and look for churches that are building us as disciples of Christ. Y’all touched on this so eloquently today. I think this is an important conversation to keep having. Thank you so much for your ministry and using your gifts to teach and guide us!
@valeriejairosi Жыл бұрын
I was just talking about consumerist church (I said capitalistic church) the other day - but from a different POV. How unfortunately a lot of church leadership will invest in discipling a congregant only if there's a return on investment. For example, "I will teach you to read and interpret the text so you can join the pastoral team or lead a sector of the church", but not necessarily because they want that congregant to grow and mature in their own walk with Christ. This podcast definitely humbled me though. For so long I thought it was Godly to point out all the flaws in church, but I seldom did anything about it or even prayed fervently on it.

That one scripture will get us every time. It’s okay to be frustrated with your fellow Body when we act outside of what God desires of us. But remember, it’s HARD out here being a believer in a broken world. I also gotta add, dudes in the streets are generally operating in an illegal space. Which means they are also operating in deception, off bat. While their standards or codes of conduct might be something they “honor” or abide by- it’s easy because it’s worldly/ flesh-based- and inherently wicked (saying wicked sounds so churchy, but 🤷🏾♀️). We, the Church, are held to a higher standard, where we, every day, every minute have to operate outside of what seems natural to us (and sometimes the world around us). It’s hard. We be sucking at it ALL the time. All of us. Every day. And in the Church, that trying is exposed to your peers at a different level. I say that to say, try not to compare the natural deception of the world to the vulnerability of The Church. You’ve got this cause God has got you. Walking with you-- and, honestly, showing you areas to pray about. Cause The Body of Christ really do be messy. Lol

I left my the catholic church 9 years ago and haven't been to an actual church since. I came back to faith in 2018 and have been reading and studying the Bible ever since and growing my relationship with Christ. During the pandemic I turned to the "mega" churches online and I do see now that most of it is motivational speaking. I know God commands us to have fellowship and we were not meant to follow Christ in isolation. I have felt the loneliness since my family doesn't have strong faith and I have few friends who share the love of God like me. Last week I found a church close to me and I plan to try it out Sunday! Im really excited and hopeful but I also have some anxiety about going alone and making friends. Im shy and Im not the best at initiating conversation. Please pray for me that this is a good fit and that im finally able to find friends and a community. I am so happy God led me to this channel, it has really impacted my life. its so refreshing to find people who can preach the word of God but keep it real about how hard it can be as a Christian in todays age! God bless y'all!

If I could give advice on visiting churches that has helped me in the past, it sometimes helps to reach out by email in advance and to speak with the pastor or an elder. That way should you go in person, it isn't a "cold visit" but a "warm" one where someone there already knows a bit about you and why you're there. You can also ask questions in advance and know a bit more about them, and in speaking with you they may think of someone they could connect you with so that you don't feel like a complete fish out of water.

The church i attend, the worship team is so amazing that I feel every moment, and I bawl my heart out every service. The pastor’s messages and deliverance are great, and I learn a lot from the services. His voice though, has a particular tone that is sharp to the ear and without soft contrast. Almost like nails on a chalkboard for me for some reason. I feel bad for feeling that way. I always see it through because it’s not about me; I came there for Jesus, not my comfort. There is a video on YT made by a Catholic content creator that was on how the protestant notion of worship isn't really worship. As he explained himself, I started to understand what he meant. In many non-denominational/protestant churches, "worship" is synonymous with "music". Recently, I had the chance to visit an orthodox church, both out of curiosity and out of a desire to better understand my brothers and sisters in the faith from other church traditions. It was during that entire 3+ hour long service that I truly began to understand what that creator meant. The collective chants of scripture professing the tenets of our faith, the prayers for the global church and the orthodox priesthood for fidelity to the teachings of Christ, the collective prayer for the forgiveness of sin, the sing-song chants of praise and glory to the triune God, and more. In that moment I felt what I experienced was true worship. I have so many questions following that experience like why more non-denominational churches do not include prayers for fidelity to the word for church leadership as part of their regular service? Why don't we collectively profess the tenets of our faith, especially if we are "seeker friendly"? If someone unfamiliar with Christianity had walked into that orthodox church, they would leave knowing exactly what it is Christ taught and the Church practices because it is laid out plainly. In most modern protestant churches that I have attended, it's "worship music --> announcements --> teaching --> closing prayer -->fellowship, maybe". And Sundays are centered around the teaching, which isn't bad, but could risk becoming a glorified extended Bible study with a mini concert at the start. It would be nice to hear thoughts on how to bring more worship into the non-denominational church that extends beyond music.
@noble604 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thought provoking comment. May I suggest we keep in the forefront of our minds what biblical “worship” actually is? Perhaps it would help us to spend time with The Lord searching and researching the scripture on the meaning of worship, where it’s mentioned in the Bible, how it’s expressed and what are we commanded to do with it. Wor(th)ship is declaring the *worth of GOD our Father through the gift and might of JESUS. If a church service Is about our collectively voicing our prayers and needs, speaking our faith to The Lord, declaring our commitment to Him, as well-meaning and obedient as that iis, is that “worship?” Is that declaring the magnificence, worth, glory, majesty, power, dominion that all belong to Him... and to Him only? It might be helpful for us to understand what “wor(th)ship” is to express it in the highest, holiest way.
@lisaburke7506 Жыл бұрын
@@noble604 I encourage you to attend an Eastern orthodox church, as you misunderstand my post. I do not want to misrepresent their practices (again, I was only a visitor). This conversation is critical. The importance of the church/temple is shown all throughout Scripture. In the Old Testament, God provided very detailed design for the temple. He was detailed about everything, including making Levites the priests, the offerings, the clothing to be worn. During His time here, Jesus spent time in the temple from His youth through adulthood. He was at the temple when His parents "lost" Him. He reserved some of His harshest words (i.e. brood of vipers) for religious leaders and showed physical anger at wrongdoing in the temple. It's safe to say, God loves His places of worship. But it's the 1st place we will leave if hurt or witnessing something we don't like. I have been guilty. Today, I refuse to leave what God loves, which in essence blames Him for the actions of people. Thanks for the convo Sis and Bro Perry!

All heck was breaking loose and I didn’t understand because, I went to church. I left that church. Not until Covid did I study my Bible daily, pray and fast and allow the Holy Spirit to teach me the truth of God’s word and about the fruits of the Spirit. Now I’m in a Bible based church that encourages us to read God’s living word for ourselves, and rely on Jesus to be our Savior. Yes it was God who told me to connect back with the church and he showed me who his people are.

I think as far as their conversation about the preachers who give "both" John Bevere is a wonderful example. Interesting enough, their podcast is a great example of focusing in on the truth versus entertaining the body and shows that the truth can be and is the most captivating thing.

The "kingdom of God" is what we are called to and it's the same that we are called through. We understand God's will at different levels of reciprocity...and it all can take place in the kingdom of God.

That was so good Preston! People want to be entertained instead of straight Teaching without all the extra. Give me Jesus and the Word without fillers most of the time. That’s enough for me.

Tbh until the church becomes a real family willing to lay down our lives for one another (1 Thess 2:8, Phil 2;17, 1 Peter 4:9, ), many people see it as nothing more than a social club thrown in with some preaching and worship. About 23:27- there are people who are coming from a whole family where they are the only believer and they are losing everything in terms of fundamental support. They look to the church, but many times its run more like a self-interested business. Then they walk away disillusioned. Thank you for approaching this with a nuanced understanding and the prayers at the end. Bless you both for the work you’re doing.

Worship is for no other reason than to worship God. No matter how it sounds to us listening. Ive heard of musicians and singers who are not even believers in Christ Jesus that perform every church service because they are employed by the church. Sometimes we focus on the entertainment aspects that church has become

The Perry couple is so in depth in conversation and insightful with explanation of God's Holy Word. They are both wonderful and intelligent to view!!❤❤❤. They are great students of God's Word. They represent truth, authenticity and modern about the millennial church and lifestyle of post pandemic Christianity ...Love u both 😊

This is such a well needed discussion. I always say that every sermon should be connected to the gospel. From Genesis to Revelation, it's all about Jesus!!

I enjoy listening to Skip Heitzig, the way he breaks down the word and has been doing so for over 20 years. It continues to point me to God and see things differently with more meaning and understanding.

I use to think Derek Prince was boring until I really listened to him. He was anointed man of God that always led you back to Christ and the word of God. He was pretty transparent with his own shortcomings.

I’ve been a Christian for a while now as I came to Christ around 18 years ago, and my experience with 90% of churches is that community didn’t play a part in it. Everyone smiled and gave high fives at church but during the week you heard from no one and then it was rinse/repeat on Sunday’s. When my son was born for example, no one was there for us from the church, even though we attended a megachurch at the time. In fact, I had more non Christian friends because to me and my family, they showed more genuineness than Christians in the church. My personal opinion is that it’s mainly because of familiarity within groups or “cliques” where Christians didn’t want to open up to newer people (as opposed to staying in the comfortable group they grew up with) is because it was a lot of work, at least this was my experience with most Christians. I’m now attending a church with my wife and children where we are blessed to have some community in the church, but the sad thing is that it took going to many churches in order to find a church that we could have community with. So I’ve written a song about it called “Community”, and here’s a link to my music video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZTThJl8o62LjKssi=iUSWrmkv-aKVE4R7 I’ve also explained the meaning behind my song “Community” in a video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn60eIamd6uSeM0si=Fo7zupKQYifq1t6H

It’s amazing to me how you both are amazing God is amazing When I almost lost everything (by mistakes through my addiction) I remember telling my mom I was getting “help” from everywhere and none of it was directly from scripture or God in fact all of it was outside of God so My mom would pray for me and with me I remember being lost it was horrible I’m so grateful for God saving me and my family we are all together happy God bless you both always Thank you

Amen!!! You said why are we here in the pew if the pastor doesn’t have time to get to the scripture. Then it’s not a sermon it’s a good feeling speech but Gods word just took a back seat. Watered down faith. I try to be very selective about who I listen to because it’s all about God, Jesus and the word not making me feel good. Which is why I do listen to you both. You are word grounded and biblically sound, yet no matter what we as the people have to be in the word ourself to know we are hearing truth!!! Thank you guys for being true

I was introduced to Jackie on a Jude 3 project video and found her very insightful, powerful, and articulate. I have since shared Jude 3 and her to some of my circle. Now bring introduced to the both of you through a video you did with Dr. Eric Mason, I have been pulled into "With The Perry's". Continue to let your light shine that people may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

This random conversation was one of the richest conversations on the topic of the church that I’ve heard. The body is perplexingly complex and yet each joint (member) supplies. I absolutely love both of you testifying to the answer, which is to find Jesus at the root of all things underpinning corporate worship. What he came for. What he did. How he acts and what he leads us in doing and being for his glory. Who we belong to and the inheritance in Christ Jesus that we have. THANK YOU 🙏

I was listening to the podcast on Spotify and had to come here so that I could comment. Last year I had breast cancer. I lost all the hair on my head, but my eyebrows and eyelashes only fell after my surgery (I don't know why). I saw this as a blessing from God as I would apply make-up and not look like I was sick. I had no nausea (another huge blessing!), so I gained weight. Only when my doctor insisted I started exercising I lost those extra pounds. I understand this girl faked it all. But just saying, eyebrows and extra weight can be a reality on someone battling cancer... I think your podcast is great and pray for you! ❤

👏👏👏 that explains why when I was about to get beaten and I stood up boldly they suddenly changed they minds and sat back down even tho they had the strength and the numbers to do so "something stopped me, even tho no one had ever stood up to us "

35:22 My pastor say this often: "how you want to go to heaven and not like church?" With what you said about God delighting in a local body gathering together made me think of that and I think that's true. In heaven we gonna be singing God's praises, in the presence of God together.

There was so much good stuff in this random convo! One thing I wanted to AMEN is that God will use people to help you get over people hurt . I was attending a PWC and God led me to pray for a woman at the alter. Afterward she told me that she hated Black people bc of her ex-husbands treatment of her. She knew God had led me to her bc of what I prayed. She was thankful to God that He used me, a stranger, to heal her from the burden of hate!😊

The World would say that I can't hold a a tune. But GOD told me HE LOVES my praise and Worship. And I know how to usher his presence in. Good Worship and singing is if it is coming from the heart. God judges us by our hearts. You can a have someone on the stage singing and hitting all the right notes and God isn't in their hearts. they are there for their for the Praise or other reasons. God created all of us to Praise and Worship him so it's all GOOD. To tell someone otherwise isn't coming from GOD. But, if someone isn't attending a service because someone is on the stage is off tune then they need to mature spiritually in this area. God topic. I love you guys :)
