Nature is a production of THIRTEEN for PBS. Throughout its history, Nature has brought the natural world to millions of viewers. The PBS series has been consistently among the most-watched primetime series on public television.
-----------------
On nights when the perfect tide conditions, day-length and sea temperature all align, some 400 species of coral across 3,000 reefs reproduce by releasing their eggs and sperm simultaneously. This ultimately helps grow the world's largest living structure - the Great Barrier Reef.

@Caleb M. F Yes you are. Every single one of us is responsible... our lifestyles are directly contributing to the demise of the reefs all around the world. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not happening, it just means you're not paying attention. Out of sight, out of mind. Hence why so few of us are changing our behaviour or voting decisions.

That's the reason why the black tip and the white tip reef sharks are important to coral reefs. Sharks are apex predators and gives the reef nutrients, the sharks are saving the reef... That's why the reef needs a keystone species 🦈🦈🦈🦈

I come to this after reading Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert. Coral spawning is beatiful. I am so sad that it might not be there anymore 100 years in the future if we keep ruining the earth

As a kid I always dreamed of one day diving there and seeing this in person. Sadly even if I made it happen somehow, there’s nothing left to see

Depressing. Such beauty ignored and destroyed. Humans hasten the extinction of other species but at least have to witness the sad effects of their ignorance.

Don't get what people mean when they post stupid comments like this, are we all supposed to kill ourselves so that a coral reef can live in our place? If you really feel this way; never drive a car, never take public transport and instead take the alternative of isolating yourself in the woods, growing your own crops and killing for your own meat. But yea, it is sad they are dying, we just need to find a way to act in a more green manner rather than killing ourselves and saying "HuMaNz ArE BaD" xD

This is such a beautiful sight. To see the coral spawning. Humans destroy so much of the coral . We need to work together to save it.

If rising water temperatures are the reason of it’s decay. There must be other places where the water now is just warm enough so coral can grow there. Do they see this behaviour or also dying coral in colder water?

Comparable to the polar bears which've increased in population tenfold since those pitiful Attenborough narrations first appeared, I suppose.

The video started out so amazing to me, I had never seen the way it reproduces. Then as the video continued, my eyes began to well up and the tears started to roll. There is so much that my grandchildren, and great grandchild may never get to see, except in pictures. 😢🌊🌍🌎🌏🌊⛅🌋🗻🚼🚮🚮☁️👶👭🏄💔💔

We'll be able to reinvigorate or create artificial coral reefs and other ecosystems once we get past nuclear fusion, among other things. The vast majority of the planet doesn't seem even remotely aware of how incomprehensibly incredible the future will be. It's really a pity that people aren't sufficiently trained and proactive to follow scientific and technological progress, as well as statistics, to get a true understanding of where we're at and where we're headed. The doomsday narrative of career politicians and media is no more than a mass delusion spawned by nefarious lies for political and financial gains.
