Tbf he ran from Radahn AFTER losing to Malenia. My interpertation is that he had delusions of grandeur about being the sole "heir of Godfrey" before getting a cold hard serving of reality by Malenia. After that point he must have been painfully aware of how weak and pitiful he was hence him being desperate enough to crossdress in order to run away from Radahn. I'd say that if the fight with Malenia hadn't happened Godrick would have foolishly challanged Radahn head on during the Shattering and Radahn would have two great runes by the time we met him...let's all take a moment to thank Malenia.

It's an expression 🤣 Lore time: Godrick begged for his life and started trying to appeal to her ego, though I like to think this was merely met with annoyance. This little bit of dialogue tells us a lot about Malenia's character when we put it together with what else we do know. First, she spared Godrick, but she nuked Caelid. Two very conflicting things, and most people assume that she nuked Caelid because she was too prideful to accept defeat, but the opposite is true. If you do Millicent's quest and read (I think Malenia's remembrance?) You know that Malenia would rather die than give into the rot, so she threw away her pride to do that. Her having no pride or sense of self left when we meet her is also why she gives in to the rot so casually in her fight. Her love for Miquella is pretty much all that's left of her. Why did she nuke Caelid then? For Miquella. Malenia never had any intention to ascend the throne, her participation in the war was merely to keep others from doing so while her brother slumbered. She bloomed because with someone of Radahn's strength, she had no other recourse. He would have become Elden Lord pretty much no contest otherwise. This is also why she spared Godrick, he was no threat. If she had intended to take the throne she would have had no reason to spare him. We don't even know if the devastation she caused was her intention. She had already bloomed once (circumstances unknown), likely in the haligtree, and there is no such sign of the same carnage she left in her wake in Caelid. I think she only meant to get Radahn with it, but that's clearly not how things went down. Perhaps the strength was greater or unsuppressed because it was done willingly with a strong emotion behind it. (From Millicent's quest, blooming seems to occur at least partly due to a strong emotion, but that's another topic, Millicent makes me cry lmao)
