I honestly don't get it. I like him very much as an actor, but his role was very small and I'm sure if it wasn't for his Emmy win, in a few years I wouldn't remember that he was in the series. I watched the show after the awards and I was waiting for his big scenes, which did not come. It's a pity his role wasn't a bigger one. He's a charismatic actor with great range, he deserved more screentime.
