My guess would be that the guide bar has some deflection past the cast iron table top when measured in and out rather than up and down. A very small difference in the guide bar could easily make a 1/64th deviation in your cut at longer distances from the blade.

Two things I can think of... first, moving the fence too fast can cause a cheap encoder to miss steps. And yes, for what these cost, they are cheap encoders. Second, using a tape measure to verify what is essentially a dumbed down DRO is like trying to perform surgery with a baseball bat. After a foot, expect the tape to be off 1/64th. Plus, dont measure from the hook, burn an inch. Over time the hole the hook is mounted in gets distorted and it adds to the inaccuracies. Lastly, tape measures are made of metal, metal expands/contracts with changes in temperature much more than a glass DRO scale will. Some metals more so than others, and with how thin a tape measure is, it will absorb or lose heat pretty quickly. Again, surgery with a baseball bat. As to why the scale measures a change when you lock the fence, your locking cam or contact pad is distorted and isn't applying force perfectly perpendicular to the rail, so it shifts slightly when pressure is applied.

Since it doesn't read down to the 64th, your issue maybe the fact that it is rounding up when reading the scale. From the manufacturers website : "accuracy of .002” per ft. of measuring length and a repeatability of +/-.0025”. What I'm saying is, if the WIXEY is off a heavy 64th it maybe rounding up to a 32nd. That could be why your cuts are off after a certain point. I have this same kit to put on my RIGID 4512 but I haven't taken the time to install it yet. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for watching and commenting. I’m sure you’re right about the error but it’s not as common it seems. I think it’s just a minor inconvenience. I really like the digital tape measure abd although it’s off it’s at least consistent. And repeatable. So that’s really great. I’m sure you’ll enjoy yours. Let me know if you have any questions.

I just installed the Wixey on my General 350 table saw with the Excalibur fence yesterday. I calibrated it against my calipers at 2 inches and got it set perfect . Your video made me paranoid , so I just went out to my shop to see how its accuracy was at longer distances , especially past the joint . Anyways I did not do any cuts, which would have been ideal, but I set it to 20 inches and then to 36 inches, and looking at my measuring tape at the outer tooth of my blade , it looks perfect from what I can see . Now I can sleep soundly tonight 😊

OK I have some theories. I wonder if your wooden extension table is 100% level with the cast iron because at the 20" mark you fence has just entered that extension table. Also is your fence rail 100% straight or does it drop off or raise past 20". Can you check both of these with a straight edge or level. I did read someone else had exactly the same problem past 25" but others don't mention it. I know my extension table on Sawstop is about 99.9% level with the cast iron . Its impossible to get it perfect as its not 100% flat. I've just ordered the Wixey, thanks to your previous video so I'll get back to you when its installed to see if I had the same problem

@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore David, I'm from Australia so its easier and cheaper (no delivery cost through Prime membership) to order from Amazon Australia. I wish I could have bought from your link then that's a win-win Another theory .... I'm installing mine directly to the rail as others have done with a Sawstop. I wonder if the supplied brackets that you used are not all the same length particularly the ones over the extension table. So is there an exact gap all the way along from the bottom of the fence rail to the top of the wixey rail.

Just ordered one for my table saw, was wondering if the change happens after the center seam of the Wixey track? Wondering if the error is happening because of that seam.
@davidbryanwoodworksandmore

I thought so too but it’s not. The seam is perfect. It really starts about 13” out abd just gets a bit more as you continue out. Seriously though, it’s an amazing feature to have. I’m just having to adjust as I go. I’m used to it already. And it’s repeatable every time. That’s what’s most important to me. So that is great. You’ll like it. Let me know if yours is perfect.

How do you get the device to move with the fence, the magnet isn’t strong enough to pull it? And when you move it back on and the magnet “grabs” it must jostle the battery and it zeroes out.

it still could be you tape measure. Before saying it's the digital, you need to find the accuracy per foot or inch for both. 1/64th over 34 inches is an accuracy of 0.005" per foot. Not bad. I don't think a tape measure is that accurate.

I’m sure the wixey was the culprit but it was still usable as I just took into account the error. I made it work. I did like that it was repeatable every time. That’s nice. But on my new slider, I’ve decided to not have a digital readout from wixey or any other company. I may put one in but I love the accuracy of the fence position all by itself.
