I was flipping through channels to watch all of the analog ones drop; I switched to 8 just as this started, and this button-push was when I witnessed the DTV switch. After the analog of WJW dropped, I flipped around to find most of the others were out as well.

Virtual Channel 8, UHF Channel 31. Once analog was shut off, Digital switched to actual Channel 8.

This video has been recorded on analog service channel 8,off the air,on Friday,12-6-2009 right before 10AM morning or noon by Bola Oxmux.

At 10AM,Fox 8(WJW-TV) will shut down both the analog service on Ch.8 (Which you just saw.) and the digital on Ch.31 you seeing here. Then ,in a few minutes, WJW-TV VCh.8-1 (Ch.90 or above) is new digital service signal broadcast replacements will come up VCh.8-1(Ch.90 or above).

Actually WJW is 11kW on CH8 - the 30kW is just an unbuilt construction permit (and is so directional that it actually would be worst than the current signal, sending all the power north). With 19's recent power increase they've gotten a lot better, now TV8 is clearly the worst digital signal now

I hope UHF 31 can operate as a translator. They actually kept the equipment (and even petitioned to the FCC to move back to UHF 31). Some stations also kept their in-core channel numbers and converted them to digital replacement translators. By the way, UHF 31 was activated a few times but with different programming.

I remember in my area where they did switch .they said same thing. I was on dish Network at time .and the channel never went out like they said it would do for few mins but hear from some people local channels was out for 2 days on cable . But on Dish all local channels was in HD so idk

I'm surprised you managed to pick up Channel 8 on its new signal. They should have just styed on Channel 31. Now they are down there with channel 19 as the worst signal in the area.

I agree. They should have stayed. They have kept the signal on a dormant state ever since.

Man! When you're right, you're right. I use to live in Highland hills, and 19 is indeed the worst digital signal in the area. I live in Warrensville Hights now, and it's hard to get in this area. Highland hills can see the signal, but just barely. Some days, it's clear, and some days, it's barely there. Even when watching Metv on 19-2.

@myronfalwell, From what I've heard, WOIO couldn't go back to 19, because it would be too close to adjacent-channel WFMJ in Youngstown on RF20. There's also an RF19 digital station in London, ON. They could go to 31, AFAIK, since WJW apparently doesn't want it.

i have reached all the channels in digital, but the weakest signal is on WBNX. during summer months, i can pick up detroit, toledo, youngstown, and zanesville at dusk. my signal is stong for DTV.

Very true, but the digital signals here were received with an outdoor antenna - with an indoor antenna, the new CH8 signal is even flakier than 19, at least where I am.

That's just the terrestrial free-to-air channels. The Cleveland metropolitan area has about 45 total. But we do have over 200 channels through cable or satellite services. If you count the entire US, there are 1,774 free-to-air channels (the ones registered with the FCC, there are more that are unlicensed/illegal). But it would be impossible to receive all of them since they are hundreds of km's apart and are broadcast on the same frequencies.

@nsa12345 WLIO in Lima also now operates on RF channel 8 (virtually channel 35) with 27.5 kW of power - easily dwarfing WJW's signal. Unless WJW applies to move to a different RF channel, they are sadly stuck with what they've got. To be fair, I can understand the legacy points of having WJW wanting to stay on RF channel 8. WOIO being on RF channel 10 (headbutting non-digital CFPL/10 in London, ON) never made, and still makes, no sense. That's Raycom for you.

Their virtual channel is 8. 35 was given to another broadcaster. WJW will be applying for a translator on UHF 31 (same as their original digital allocation)

So, it's 2024, and we can't even still see it in warrensville heights. 19 is the same way. Are strongest channels from warrensville Heights include three, five, and 55. Wbnx really comes in in warrensville Heights however wvps in akron, ion, just cannot show up at all. And wav can't even come on either. Along with w e a oh, and sometimes channel 25 w i z. Sorry, missing letters. Wzid, and wvt wvps. Although, that's probably a signal and karlstein somewhere again, the call letters for ION that I was trying to say for akron, is, wvp x.

It's technically correct as the "1" at the beginning is just an extension for the area code that was made a requirement for some reason. On the other hand you do prove a point, because there are STILL people that forget to dial with the "1".
