I think part of it is an institutional addiction to power, control, and secrecy. This is a big problem with many in the upper reaches of the hierarchy. And I think part of it is the severe shortage of priests available for ministry, which is rapidly becoming a major crisis, and the solution is one the hierarchy really wants to avoid, and not even discuss- namely allowing married priests and women priests. So the hierarchy feels it necessary to fill gaps in ministry with priests who shouldn’t even BE in ministry. Those in the hierarchy (globally) simply will not even listen to the call for ending the mandatory celibacy for priests, and they definitely don’t want to entertain even a discussion on full equality for women, including women in holy orders (deacons, priests, bishops). I also think the issue of obsession with power, control, secrecy is related to the obsession with male patriarchy that is misogynistic in nature.

I’ve been a Catholic. I don’t know what I am now. I despise what has happened and those responsible. When I think of what generations of our Catholics have gone through with the religious brainwashing, the fear, the guilt. I feel hatred. I don’t care what any of them have to say any more. I could not stand being in that environment b/c I was molested by an usher. That happened in our own home as the usher was my step-dad...I went to church with him & my Mom every Sunday. As he was seating people, I wanted to stand up and shout to the parishioners that he was abusing me but I didn't. When I finally was brave enough to tell, my Mom seperated from and divorced him. Not long after that he committed suicide. I share this in case it helps anyone in any way...

Issues I see , men of God that are supposed to be committed to the Creator should should not be abstaining from the laws of the Creator i.e. that of marriage & procreation, a continuation of life.
