I was with G100 FM-WKRG. Certainly remember that night, was at the station which was on St. Louis street downtown at that time. What impressed me most was the way people stepped up to the plate and helped each other after the storm passed. For several days after we did nothing but broadcast information on how and where to get help. People were calling in and sharing where help was needed most and some were calling in to offer their help to folks needing it. Very moving, God bless the people of Mobile and south Alabama.

I was there on the night Frederic came calling. My family sought shelter all through that long night, driving miles through the storm, heading north to our final safety in Evergreen, Alabama, where I slept in the high school band hall, beneath a grand piano! Though we lived in Gulf Breeze, Florida, we had only minimal damage. Sadly, many of our friends and neighbors were not so fortunate. Though I now live in East Tennessee, I still get nervous when a storm comes near the Gulf Coast. Many prayers ring offered for the folks in Louisiana and Texas, who are preparing for Laura. May they all make it through safely!

Will never forget hurricane Frederic . It was like awful . My father was a firefighter for the city and they had to stay at the fire station but after the winds got up they couldn't go out on any rescue calls . Frederics winds were to high to make any rescue calls . I've never heard so many tornadoes in my life as what we heard that night . And they destruction after Frederic it was awful

This was definitely unforgettable for me and my family. Nine days after the hurricane, my sister got married. We had generators going at the church and candles in certain areas that could not have power going. We had relatives spending the night at our house and my dad borrowed a generator from the army reserve unit he was in at that time. I believe it was about a month until I could go back to school.

I was 6 in Sandpiper Apartments. And I remember every single moment of hurricane freddie. There was destruction all around us. And the only thing that happened to the complex was the roof blew off the mailboxes. Sandpiper Apartments still stands to this day! But what I remember most is the community rally around us. Coming together. sharing food water. ALL AROUND SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY. THANK YOU MOBILE. EVERY HURRICANE WE'VE HAD THIS SENTIMENT HAS HELD TRUE!

I was born and raised in Mobile, and vividly remember Hurricane Frederick. The southern part of the county (Bayou la Batre, Dauphin Island, Coden, and Grand Bay) were devastated. Parts of Mobile County were without power for weeks. A curfew was imposed at night. People were fighting over ice at the FEMA trailers in the A&P food store parking lot on Dauphin St near Sage Ave. Chain saws hummed for weeks. It took FEMA months to clean up all the debris. Some people were so tramatized by Frederick that they would panic every time the sky grew dark and it rained. It was a very frightening event.

I was 5 yrs old, my brother was 4.5 months old, we lived in Orange Grove Projects, on Claiborne & Bloodgood St in Mobile, I remember that night vividly. we slept on pallets on the floor at my grandma's house. My entire family was at my grandma's house that night, my uncles & aunt was still in high school. That next morning it looked like a bomb was dropped, tree's everywhere power lines everywhere. We had to drive to Ladd Stadium to get ice, the Red Cross fed us hotdogs. The neighbors German Sheppard was found on his roof with the chain wrapped around his neck. I cried everyday because I couldn't go back to school.

I lived in the Crichton area and lost only a few roof shingles. I stayed with some friends near the Skyline Country Club and there were trees down all over the golf course. Little damage on Burton Ave in the Crichton area.

I'm from Pensacola. I had just started 9th grade when Fredric hit. We were inland close to Alabama, a tiny town named Beulah. My MawMaw, PawPaw, Aunts and Uncles and lots of cousins hunkered down in our house. It was wild. My MawMaw and PawPaw yard down in Pensacola was trashed. I even rescued a kitty who was stuck up in a tree, in their yard. My daddy was a framer and rebuilt lots of homes in Gulf Shores. That place looked leveled. It was bad.

I was twelve. Five weeks no power , bathing in creeks off any bridge . An adventure at first for a kid , but a nightmare later on. Hot , chainsaws all night and mosquitoes. I remember we had three families in the hallway of the house and the men scrambling to nail down the attic door so the roof wouldn’t come off. We went outside during the eye and it was calm with the stars brighter than I ever saw. Then the back side came. A monster banged on the front door of the house.. thick wood and you could see it warping under the strain. Small tornadoes I heard was the worst part of the storm. Theodore

I lived in Mobile, Tillman's Corner off Three Knotch road. I was 19. One of the longest nights of my life. Ready for Freddie! After the hurricane the entire neighborhood would cook huge dinners together so that we could use up the food in the freezers. For the first week or so you had to go to the fire dept to get fresh water. Each family got 2 gallons a day.We got large garbage cans and hand washed our clothes and hung them out. For a good bath we would go down to a creek to bathe and wash our hair. There was no electricity for 3 1/2 weeks. And I remember people selling Ice off of trucks for $20.00 a bag! And some folks were buying it!

I was on DIP in an Apartment a guy said I’ll stay with you and the kids tonight he was saying ‘Come on Fredrick’ Come on Fredrick’ well Fredrick came and this guy was screaming like a woman running up and down the hall we got to leave here ( my son was 5 years old and my son said he need to go) my son and my daughter was in my arms and I told them ‘mama got you I got you safe’.. we had to leave in a van. We had a lady and her girls with us we parked under a carport at a school the wind was saying ‘Come out! come out! The wind would pick up the back of the van, every time it picked up the back of the van the lady would cry and say ‘Oh lord! Well we made it and was able to go home the next morning. I’ll never forget the storm or the man that was screaming like a girl!

Strangely, I can remember it being broadcast on the radio, and I was at least 6 months old.. one of my earliest memories.. I was living in Ocean Springs, Ms. At the time.. Don't ask me how I still remember that far back, but I'm guessing maybe it had to do with my parents freaking out about it and preparing for it before it made landfall.. They lived in a new trailer at that time, so I can't blame them for doing so 😢
