Crack is incredibly easy to make, it's litteraly cocaine and baking soda. Anybody with a basic knowledge of chemistry could figure out how to make create crack. It's not at all unlikely that some clandestine chemist discovered how to make it, and started the ball rolling. People had been smoking freebase cocaine for years before crack, and baking soda is a base so it only makes sense. You wouldn't need a government agency to "invent" crack. I'm not saying the CIA has never done really shady shit, but the idea that they just "created" crack and sold it into black neighborhoods is fucking ludacris.
@MapexMiata4 жыл бұрын

Not really, the CIA sold drugs, not give crack. Crack was introduced in prisons by doctors to curb aid due to injectable cocaine use. They literally researched how to make cheap cocaine that wasn't injectable and hit just as hard. The CIA also poisoned people with drugs, like LSD, but that's not giving.

$100/oz isn't far off. Using a website that lists average drug prices for each state, an ounce of crack in Maryland averages 800-1000 an ounce. Adjusting for inflation, that'd be roughly $300-400 an ounce in 1984. So $100 is not TOO implausible a price. Maybe it was super cheap when it first took off and then the price rose as demand skyrocketed.

Sometimes you’ll hear about times people were screwed by the system and how those events “radicalized” them, but I would say the same thing happened to me from watching this show as a kid. Yeah there’s a lot of dumb jokes that don’t have a deeper meaning, but then there’s skits like this that just parody real historical accounts of systemic racism, the song “Aren’t You Lucky”that broke me free of my U.S.-centric worldview, and the skit about the pledge of allegiance that made me feel like I was a North Korean kid every morning I was in school. Thank you Whitest Kids U’Know for hitting me with some realism at such a formative time of my life, and for being able to have a laugh about things that are normally kind of horrific.
