​@Unicronicorn I would. It's clearly an issue between urbanites vs rural people and waved purely for voting purposes. Handguns in urban areas are definitely the largest source of gun crime, by far. However, rather than admit we have a gang problem, urbanite politicians attack rifles, which are the weapons one would use to change their government. The government can't outright ban rifle ownership because it needs a source of people that know how to use them for its own military. The issue will never change one way or the other in the current system so it is indeed pop culture and sound bites.
