Thanks for the excellent video and double thanks for sharing your knowledge of this cool and certainly capable low cost helicopter! It's folks like you who freely give their time, that help less experienced people, (such as myself), get into these hobbies without endless frustration and broken models! You're a champion! Cheers!

I just ordered the v950 main shaft as a substitute shaft for my 250 gram 200 sized FPV helicopter. I notice that Ohio model and Logo and Horizon are trying to converge their 200 sized heli using direct drive main motor, getting rid of the main gear and using the exact same diameter(4mm) and length(90mm) main shaft. I hope the v950 main shaft also is 4mm in diameter, and soon everyone will fly 200 sized heli FPV because it has extreme endurance as most helis do. Mine flies for 35 minutes per charge.

Very good video, thanks. I bought that "ready to fly" model some time ago, but it is not "ready to fly" at all. Like in your video at exact 9:22, the heli tends to tilt to the left side, right before the lift off. I tried to use the digital trimming on the radio, but it did not really change a lot. Will the digital trimming me memorized or do I have to do this each time? When the heli is in the air, it is impossible to hoover on the spot. The linkages at the rotor are all set (the swash plate is 100% horizontal/neutral). Any idea what I can do? Has anyone done some trimming on this model? I am not very experienced, but the user manual is in "Chinenglish" language - impossible to understand.
@jerryarpaio
@jerryarpaio 4 жыл бұрын
Just make the correction when you get off the ground. In my experience every helicopter does this no matter how you set it. It always starts off pulling to one side or another but quickly straightens out once it’s in the air. It may have to do with weight balance.
@TheBigHoneyBear
@TheBigHoneyBear 4 жыл бұрын
@@jerryarpaio Thanks for your reply. I am aware that you have to get off the ground, because of turbulences, etc. However, I would expect that it hoovers pretty straight on the spot once it is in the air. I guess my expectations have been way too high towards a product of this price level. I will give it a couple more tries, but eventually sell it on ebay, if the performance can't be fine tuned any better.

I have to ask, were all the outdoor test performed on the same battery? (It seems like they might have been), this could absolutely affect how the bird flies going from one rate to another, pirouetting an tail stability, what with a brushed tail motor.

Mate, I just got my V950 from Banggood and it's missing the bloody battery charger with the wall output and this adapter. Instead, it came with a cheap USB lipo charger that I'm not even sure where to plug it into - I don't think I'm supposed to charge the battery on my PC USB Port, right?

@@fyresg Apparently, yes. But I've been using it plugged into a mobile phone charger. I was checking the voltage during the charging, and it climbed from 11.4 to 11.8 volts (it's a 3 cells battery), so it is charging, but I'm not sure if at the adequate rate. Also, the manual doesn't say if the charger's red light will blink, turn off or stay on when the battery is charged - it only says "after the charging is complete the red light," and the sentence ends lol. Thanks for the reply!

I bought one unfortunately. One of the servos stripped on the 1st flight causing a crash 2 feet off the ground. Bent the main rotor shaft and rotor links. Fixed it. Now the tail turns slowly in one direction and can't be trimmed out. I also have a blade helli I have crashed a few times and no problems. Spend the extra money on a quality helli like blade or align.

You need to do a complete check. There are many steps but I will just briefly highlight a few: check that the swashplate is level at 50% collective. Check that blades are not damage, not causing vibrations. Check that the swashplate moves correctly according to your cyclic commands.

@fyresg
@fyresg 7 жыл бұрын
You can't do 3D in 6G mode, but you can Idle-Up in 6G mode. Idle-Up means to use a different set of throttle and pitch curves, which are independent on the selected stabilization system (6G vs 3D).

@fyresg
@fyresg 7 жыл бұрын
You don't have to turn Idle-Up off. Just be aware of negative pitch, and know to do the right things. You should know why Idle-Up is so good. It is good because throttle is almost constant and you control the helicopter with collective and cyclic pitch. This means it is very responsive to your commands (no lag).

I'm a V911 and V977 owner. Love the 977 but it's a little on the small side. V950 appeals to me very much but 2 points that have put me off. Firstly its not available as copter alone, don't really want another of these transmitters. Secondly, prefer to stick a 3s 2200mah lipo without modding the gear assy. Love the XK K120 and K124, possibly should have gone with the K120 over the V977 as that the heli is a little bigger and the transmitter is sweet. My friend bought the V950, plastic looks quite cheap and he broke one of the header forks that guide the pitch rods. I too am looking to see if XK brings out a competitor for the V950.

Not trying to be negative, because it looks very nice for the price, but here are a couple of things I see. If you can't at least adjust the pitch on the 3G modes (like the V977) a lot of people in this price market are going to have trouble controlling it in anything but 6G. I have a 977 and it is a great little helicopter, but the pitch rates and expo on even low rates 3G mode are very difficult. It's great for cruising around in 6G, which this looks like it would be as well. It's really too bad it isn't compatible with the XK X6 transmitter. This actually looks very similar the the Walkera Master CP. Some of the other small WLToys / XK models also look very similar...I wonder if WLtoys have negotiated some kind of deal, or just copied the designs. The tail motor on this looks just like the setup on the Master CP. If it is a copied Master CP with a brushless main motor, it should be great...but still needs programmable curves. It would probably be very nice if it can be run with the Deviation transmitter.
@fyresg
@fyresg 8 жыл бұрын
I think it is important to point out all the problems. :) If I'm not mistakened, certain versions of V977 allows pitch range to be adjusted. You can find videos of that on KZbin. I would guess that V950 supports this feature too. WLtoys and XK Innovations are rumored to belong to the same boss; WLtoys may have been too "toyish" so they spawned a new company, XK Innovations, to ditch the toy-grade image. I'm pretty sure they are trying to clone the Master CP but they aren't gonna do a complete clone because they want to keep the price low. Certain expensive features (programmable TX) have to go. Go to their high-end sister company, XK Innovations, for their Futaba-based rendition of V950. Time will tell.......

Trainer/Intermediate helis have come a long way in the last 3-5 years, but it seems that "dual purpose" machines like this, an so many others, seem to try to build an inexpensive 3D machine, then add onto that with some sort of "beginner 6-axis" mechanism. Don't get me wrong, this is a great thing! But it seems like they have it backwards. I.e., if you have a poor trainer, but a decent 3 Axis machine, bad habits can occur. Should be that the "trainer/6-axis" part of a bird should be rock solid to give a proper foundation first an foremost. Always fundamentals first!
@fyresg
@fyresg 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think this is supposed to be a 3D heli. It has 3D mode, but that does not mean it is a capable 3D helicopter. This is good for beginners to try out acro mode (i.e., 3D mode) as it has the ability to toggle to 6G mode - useful for beginners to "bail out" in case of emergency. Supporting acro mode does not mean it is a good 3D heli. This thing needs good collective management. If not, the tail will not hold, and the beginner will pay for his mistake. Repairing this toy-grade heli is a pain.

You are getting ground effect from both directions, up and down. I wouldnt call it a fair evaluation at all. Its too BIG for indoor flying unless you have 30 foot ceilings. It is bigger than the 250 series and smaller than a 913. I may buy this as a beginner before flying my 450 Align. What do you think? I think its a much better choice than some other models.
@fyresg
@fyresg 6 жыл бұрын
Nope. I know how ground effect feels like, and it's out of it. I never fly within ground effect because it flies unstably. Experienced pilots will always get out of it asap, and only rely on it for landing. What did I evaluated and why was that unfair? A heli is only "too big" i.e. limited by space, if the pilot's skills are limited. Have you seen Nick Maxwell fly insane 3D inside his garage? Nobody would tell him his heli is too big for his garage. He clearly looked relaxed doing those crazy stunts in his tiny garage. If you are a beginner then you should skip this toy. It is fragile, and without skills, you will crash this thing and spend lots of time and money repairing it. As compared to my 450, V950 is definitely less stable. You are better off learning directly on your 450, or fire up your simulator. TBH, simulator was a huge help for me when I learn basics, as well as 3D moves.
@scottfirman
@scottfirman 6 жыл бұрын
Fyre SG So you are saying that the ceiling doesnt affect the performance of a helicopter? Have you never stuck a drone to the ceiling in your house? Yes I have seen The garage performance. As far as flying the Align ,Figures you would say that, its not yours. I love it when guys goad their friends into smashing their RC all to hell, then laugh knowing its not theirs. Ok, I am not 12 years old, I wasnt born yesterday, and I am not stupid. Not everyone has the skill set to fly a heli in a garage without smacking something. Just because someone has that ability, doesnt mean everyone of us does. Clearly you must be an Ace flyer. Good for you. I think I will go at my own pace and avoid garages and parking structures. Have fun! Its a fun hobby, enjoy!
@fyresg
@fyresg 6 жыл бұрын
The ceiling sucking phenomenon only occurs when the model is very near the ceiling. The gap between the ceiling and the rotor is definitely much smaller than the gap between the ground and the rotor. Most importantly, that phenomenon is not called ground effect, because... it is the ceiling and not the ground. You simply don't redefine ground effect as "from both directions, up and down". Why are you harping on smashing helis and goading friends to smash their helis? Are you crazy? I have never advocated anyone to fly indoors, you made all that up! All that with just a clip of me flying indoors; seriously? I could do it safely and confidently, and you're telling me that my simple video implies I am encouraging people to follow? Seriously? Just in case you still don't get it - I'll put it in real simple terms for you: I do what I like. I do all that safely and confidently. I don't tell people what they should do. I never said you must fly indoors. If you don't wanna fly indoors, of course that is your call, but why can't I fly indoors and have fun? If you have the time, read your first comment again, and you'll understand why I am annoyed.
