@@Corellianwell, i mean... Lynch used to have a very idiosyncratic way to depict his female characters. Rossellini in Blue Velvet, Sheryl Lee in Fire Walk with Me, Arquette in Lost Highway, Watts in Mulholland Dr., Dern in Wild at Hearts and Inland Empire, many actresses in Twin Peaks series and other projects. they are all either femme fatales or damsels in distress, mere functions, always unsheathed, exploited, humiliated and objectified. i don't really think it was David's intention (Mulholland Dr. is literally about exposing predatory underbelly of Hollywood), but you can't deny that this is at least weird and uncomfortable.

I've been coming back to this video for years because it is such an intimate look at why the people who worked with him love him so much. That he was an auteur with such distinctive artistic vision, creating his own cinematic language and idioms while he was still in film school, making him a truly one of a kind genius who can never be replicated, goes without saying. But he was also a kind man with great empathy and love and an uplifting positivity. He took you to the darkest places but part of that was so you could better recognize beauty and light. He will be so painfully missed by so many.

@@sunderland69 I’ll give you inland empire, but Eraserhead is much easier to understand. The images are surreal but the story beats and themes are concrete. I can’t say as much about lost Highway. If you view the movie a mobius strip it clears it up a tiny bit. The thematic elements are still lost in my subconscious somewhere. I’ve watched it so many times now that it’s kind of revealed itself a bit but I still find it too dense in the abstract. Lynch is one of my favorite filmmakers.
