Does it cost you more to produce than to buy, e.g. equipment cost, electricity, etc (assuming small batches)? Otherwise, what is the return period for if someone did it for a single diesel 4WD?

Our current price for diesel per liter is NZ $2.70 - $2.80 per liter, in some parts of the world even despite the high prices diesel fuel is either not available or limited. thus it is $28.00 per 10L of diesel. Waste oil - is still possible to get it for free. Also if one wants to save money, then there is no point to buy the diesel distiller - build it yourself out of scrap metal. Electricity is still about $0.22 - $0.25 per kw/h Machine consumes 6kw per hour, produces about 24L per hour, plus reagents, all together may cost about $5.00 per 24L of fuel, still cheaper, yes one has to invest time as well, Find some time once a week - this is the reality of current energy crisis.

Patrick, I'll no longer build those things for sale, and it requires way too much time for the testing and cleaning afterward. It is ok to make one for yourself - keep it filled with oil, do not bother to disassemble. But when you need to, take it apart again and wash it up. Anyway, I am trying to get together a construction manual, and it will be released in PDF format, absolutely affordable.

does the fuel produced have a higher viscosity than regular disel from the pump ?

At the moment of the production it looks really thicker due to some contaminants, but after the treatment the fuel is as viscous as the regular fuel can be.

Here’s a revised version that improves readability while keeping the information intact: --- Reforming typically operates at elevated temperatures, similar to destructive distillation, but in a continuous process. This process transforms a uniform, mostly heavy hydrocarbon feedstock into a variety of different hydrocarbon fuels, ranging from diesel fractions to petroleum gas. In semi-continuous reformers, also known as coking distillers, the feedstock is further broken down into solid carbon, which needs to be removed from the reactor cylinder before any subsequent distillation. Continuous oil distillation generally occurs at temperatures no higher than the actual boiling point of the oil. As a result, only oil is produced, while impurities, additives, and bitumen-substances with higher boiling points-are separated from the oil. In this process, no destructive distillation takes place. The base oil can then be chemically cleaned and used either as a base for lubricants or as diesel fuel. Therefore, if the goal is to produce a variety of products, reforming is the preferred method. The oil distiller can be effectively used for a secondary distillation of reforming outputs, such as petrol engine oil, automatic transmission fluids, or tire pyrolysis oil. --- This version is clearer and more organized while preserving the original content.

How many continuous hours can this machine work?

everything depends on the quality of the waste oil, if something looks like bitumen, then you may clog it in a couple of hours, if filtered ATF fluid, then you may run it for the whole year without a problem.

Given that he is running it at around 370°C and As stated by AZO Materials, grade 304 stainless steel possesses “good oxidation resistance in intermittent service to 870 °C and in continuous service to 925 °C.” However, they warn that “continuous use of 304 in the 425-860 °C range is not recommended if subsequent aqueous corrosion resistance is important.” I'd think that it'd last just about for ever.

Honestly, I did not think about it, anyway need to calculate the materials cost, the unit was built about 2 years ago and was collecting the dust until recently, so the materials prices were different back then. Also how complete should be the kit?
