Honda used centi type oil filters for a while on smaller motorcycle engines mounted on the clutch side of the crank. They cleaned so well that getting the "dirt" out of the small drum was quite a project in it's own. They put small blades on the side of the spinning drum so the oil wouldn't slide in the drum, keeping oil at the full spinning speed while running. This forces the dirt to form a layer in the drum and pack tight. The dirt was mostly aluminum worn from the cylinder by the cam chain. It looks like solid aluminum as you dig it out with a screw driver. Great project.

@@harleyinglis5360 There were 2 types as I remember, the trail 90 type and the twin cyl motors, 175, 350, 450 and a few others. 90 type (most singles) the clutch was on the crank end, so was the filter. Twins, you had to open the filter to get to the crank end nut by a snap ring. Early 70's stuff.

A wood shaper has a brush motor and may overheat with prolonged operation. An induction motor is a better option, as they are robust have no friction parts, may operate literally non stop for years, the speed can be controlled with a frequency converter.

These oil purifiers have been around forever .. the Navy uses them in ships to purify oil in gearboxes.. semi trucks like mac use them forever.. Peterbilt and Kenworth also provided them as a option. They were a throwaway item that you took off and replaced but clean the spinning canister part. Yes Honda used them and also Land Rover and in Belarus 420 and 250 tractors. Ocean going ships use what they call a lube oil purifier that places a layer of water right up by The hub or drum and the oil floats on the top of it allowing the water to wash out the impurities while leaving the oil perfectly clean. Those items in their smallest form where in about 10,000 used. I don't know about nowadays after all the inflation. When you don't have something and you can make it like Alex it is good but I would be concerned that you don't get too close should it fly apart at too high in RPM. For those interested I would like to add that among all of those kinds of purifiers I believe there was a paper element that you could put on the outside of the Bell so you could pull off all of the dirt and gum. In that case they use the oil pressure to spin on a rod and spray out on the outside and it was fairly cleanable. Check out Hutchinson, I think they manufactured it for Mac, m a c k trucks

Hi, I believe I show everything in this video, If you mean the flat plate, then I used a small welding blob on one side of the plate and live center on another, the chuck jaws are partially opened, used as lever to push against the weld pimple on the metal plate, and this way you can carefully without forcing too much make a rue round plate.

Honestly do not know, this one was bought as second hand back in 2001, then I used it in my workshop every day till 2021, it was already out of balance vibrating, then all mounting bolts broke, so I replaced it with another grinder, and this one was used for the project. Thus it is already about 30 years old, still going strong, I think I can squize another decade out of it, then simply replace bearings.

Couldnt you just use different microns of some type of screen/mesh like cheese cloth or bubble bags, or possibly sand and charcoal(the type for aquariums) and suspend over a collection container and let it naturally seep through and drip into the container or better yet find a way to press, or suck it through a filtration media?
@santeryi9
@santeryi9 3 ай бұрын
Sure, it an be done, but what about all that media getting soaked with contaminants and thrown away, so any filter will gets clogged, any media should be discarded, and new materials used every time, so the long story short - the centrifuge is a filter that can be reused again and again, the sludge is scraped off the walls and no media needs to be discarded, so it is faster and cheaper.

@kieranh2005
@kieranh2005 15 күн бұрын
Its spinning at 3000rpm. In the centrifuge the centripetal force is pushing outward not down like normal gravity. Things sink outward toward the periphery of the centrifuge drum, while the oil fills the drum until the step is reached then flows over the step and is flung out into the housing/catcher. So its flowing *up* against normal gravity. Bit of a mind F A 150mm/6" diameter centrifuge is putting its contents under approx 800G's at that rpm. A 200mm/8" is pushing 1000G's. Anything heavier than the oil (metal filings, dust, water) sinks outward really quickly to the periphery of the drum.

I go nothing against im just tryna understand how your getting oil and water to mix away and the dust out cause you got to think if your continously pouring water mixed with oil in centrifugal force some of that water would go with some of that oil sure they don’t mix but they both are fluid like and eventually fall low into your container
