How to Set Your Motorcycle's Rear Sag
Sag is the amount of suspension travel that is compressed when you sit on your motorcycle. It's important to set your sag correctly so that your suspension can work properly and give you the best handling possible.
In this video, I'll show you how to measure and set your motorcycle's rear sag. I'll also explain why sag is important and how it affects your bike's handling.
The correct amount of sag will vary depending on your weight and the type of riding you do. However, a good starting point is to have 30-40% of total sag as rider sag.
To measure your sag, you'll need a tape measure and a friend to help you. Follow these steps:
Put the bike on a stand and raise the rear wheel off the ground.
Measure the distance from the rear axle to the seat.
Sit on the bike with all of your gear on and have your friend measure the distance from the rear axle to the seat again.
The difference between these two measurements is your rider sag.
Once you know your rider sag, you can adjust the preload on your shock to get the correct amount of sag. The preload is the amount of tension that is applied to the spring. More preload will result in less sag, and less preload will result in more sag.
Setting your motorcycle's sag is a simple but important step that can improve your bike's handling. By following these steps, you can ensure that your suspension is working properly and that you're getting the most out of your bike.
