Roughly the first half of an originally hour-long newscast from the then-independent station (now Fox O&O WNYW) in New York. Some commercials are included. One story which featured a portion of a Frost/Nixon interview was edited out due to a copyright claim.

It’s amazing how long this first package is, and all the details about the background on the owner, none of that would be said today. This is real news story telling.

What an incredible flashback...! I was 8 but remember so much of this...WNEW did a quality local new show and had some great reporters.. As a son of the FDNY, love that footage!

All the reporters were serious, deep-voiced dudes in suits!
@americangiant1003

Yup. Back then Reporters (Both for Mostly Men back in 1977)would always wear suits even in 90-degree plus or near zero weather conditions. Ditto even for the Cameraman/Digital Photographer as well. Now almost 50 years later they would be wearing in some cases for outdoor shots especially in extreme weather a t-shirt(summer)or heavy jacket with the station's logo. Which in 2023 would be the "Fox News" logo.

I wish the news was this innocent today. Even the Nixon story was tame by comparison with 2023's social/ political scandals.

From what I could gather, on this aircheck the "Do You Know Where Your Children Are?" V/O just before the start of the newscast was Fred Scott. (Hence, I've heard that notice from all of the station's major announcers except for Lou Steele definitely, and Chuck Caron probably; I vividly remember Ed Ladd handling it, as well as Tom Gregory and Peter Lucas.)

Yes- it was. So sad. I took a shot earlier to see if I could find out if this story had been on the evening news that day- not sure how it couldn't have been and was amazed to find this. The fire was indeed very tragic. I would love to talk with any of the survivors who had been there, but honestly not sure how many are even still alive today. This is just one of many things that speak to me for some reason and maybe it's not right to do so, but I decided recently to incorporate this horrible event into a story I am writing (fiction) and have my character been there when it happened. Only because it is such a tragic event and I don't know how many people today are aware this even happened and mostly- why it happened. Things were so different back then and it's a crude reminder of how much so.

The only newscast I remember ever watching with my family. Bill Jorgensen, John Roland, Gabe Pressman, Steve Baumann, Bill McCreary (who did Black News on Sunday nights) Marvin Scott, Victor Reisel, Dr. Martin Abend, Stuart Klein, and the forgotten Tom McDonald on sports. Bill Mazer also did sports. And the syndicated gossip report of Rhona Barrett.
@americangiant1003
@americangiant1003 10 ай бұрын
Date2. Actually "Black News" was on Saturday Nights at 1030pm. Sunday Nights had "Sports Extra" right after the 10pm news co hosted by Mazer and then recently retired NY Jets NFL player named John Dockery. Both the McCreary produced Saturday evening and Sports Extra was groundbreaking among the first ever in their speciality programming.

"Battery of Teletype Receivers" from the Thomas J. Valentino / Major Records library: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH6spZVqbrCgsMkm14s WNEW meant for it to be loud, evidently, to tell you "this is a newscast, not Merv or 'I Love Lucy' or 'The Flintstones'." (Plus it being royalty-free.)

I know the teletype SFX off the back of my hand . . . but would anyone know from which music library that theme music at the open (used up until later '77) came from (and, if known, its title)? I thought I heard another section of that same music in a 1965 Benny Hill sketch from his BBC days.

The production music is called "Panic E", and comes from Berry Music Company Lmtd. More of it can be heard at www.southernmedia-nmsa.com/#1,1,WNEW
@wmbrown6
@wmbrown6 6 жыл бұрын
Berry Music Co. Ltd., must have done other variants of that "Panic" music for there to be a "Panic E" (wonder, who would have wrote it?). Here's the Benny Hill sketch in question (music heard from 2:55 - 3:10): kzbin.info/www/bejne/aneZk4qGh5ydq5om55s As for the Teletype SFX, it is called "Teletype Receivers Battery" and from the Thomas J. Valentino music library. (EDIT: The Benny Hill sketch used "Panic C." Both that and "Panic E" were written by Don Banks.)
