We were extremely lucky with 7 channels!! Most markets back then had only 1 or 2 channels, 3 if they were lucky. There were very few locations in America back then that had 7 channels of TV to watch.

One of my all time favorite television channels growing up and to this very day I have fond childhood memories of watching WPIX TV Channel 11 here in New York City. A good way to end this video with Jackie Gleason's "The Honeymooners" which is still being sown on channel 11 to this very day.

As a kid I used to have a crush on Carol Demas from the Magic Garden. Hard to believe she's now 80 years old, and as beautiful as ever. Carol Corbett who did the Patchwork Family show with Cary Antebi only lasted one season in 1972-73. It then continued to appear on tv as reruns until 1989. Amazing how they pulled that off with the very limited time they were on.

2:38 - That character on the monitor would become Lorelai the Chicken, on "The Electric Company". She was an Aniform, a closely guarded, secret technique of doing live animation. It actually involved flat, foam puppets in a dark box with a camera pointed at it. That camera's feed was mixed with the main live-action video feed, and the black areas around the Aniform were replaced with the main feed.

Growing up in Connecticut, I remember watching a lot of this programing from '71 onward. There were so many shows I watched, from Star Trek to the Mod Squad, Get Smart, Chiller Theater.....too many to list here. I remember watching Abbot and Costello movies every Sunday morning after church with my dad. Alot of laughs! "Back....back....back, he thinks I'm Dracula". As I viewed this collection of Americana, I noticed that the music themes of virtually every show was unique. I was whistling along with many, like Mod Squad and Get Smart, and others. Even the commercials were cool. I remember that Pocono Gardens spot ran often. Thanks for the memories....alot of enjoyment, thrills, and laughter.

@@Johnnyboy792 Yes sir! I felt younger and happier after watching your video. I remember seeing "The Money Store" commercial with Phil thought the '70's. Not only did those commercials, movies, and TV shows that aired on Channel 11 bring my family and I together for a certain amount of time on a weekly basis....but the impact obviously continues on today in 2020. Think about that for a moment or two. There were many other shows like Hawaii 5-0 that were enjoyed on CBS if I recall correctly, being a kid through out the '60's and '70''s was terrific.

@@Johnnyboy792 You're welcome! I forgot to mention that I remembered seeing "The Money Store" commercial quite often for years. Now I realize that considering where I grew up, (not too far from NYC), it made alot of sense for that commercial to be run....and often. I also didn't mention that I watched "The Quiet Man" with my dad too over the years. It was one of his favorite John Wayne movies. The programmers from WPIX would hopefully be impressed that all these years later that a kid who grew up on so many of those shows and movies still remember every one of them, and I'm grateful that some of them help forge a bond between my dad and I. Cheers.

When I was in Pre-School (rapidly approaching 5 DECADES ago) we lived in NY & watched PIX! Then moved to a part of New England which didn't receive the station... but used to watch it when visiting my dad or grandparents! SO many memories! Used to hide behind the couch when that Chiller Theater hand popped up! & Ages ago I asked about an afterschool kid's show with a commodore style host. Well that was Capt. Jack McCarthy! If this stirs emotions in you like it does most of us, it's not that times were so simple, its our parents that deserve a shout out for giving us lives to have enjoyed these shows. Life was simpler because people raised families, worked, and actually looked out for their neighbors and our parents assumed the responsibility of a being a parent, ass whooping or not.

I grew up in the Allentown, PA area and most nights WPIX wouldn't come in too well on the antenna but the local cable company (Service Electric Cable) carried WPIX and other NYC broadcast stations. On nights when the cable was out and atmospheric conditions were juuust right we could pick up watchable broadcasts on VHF channels 2 through 13. 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13 from NY, 3, 6, 10, 12 from Philly, and 8 from Lancaster, PA. WPIX was one of the favorites though!

At 2:12 Ray Heatherton, father of entertainer Joey Heatherton. Chuck McCann (3:28) was also known for many years as a TV commercial actor and voice artist, and he also did a series of Laurel & Hardy themed ads for American/Standard gas stations, where he played Oliver Hardy. In the late-1960s he also had the show The Far Out Space Nuts, co-starring Bob Denver. Not to mention the series of Right Guard ads as the "Hi Guy!" guy, with Bill Fiore as the poor sap on the other side of the mirror left calling for his wife Mona.

I'm in NH. On July 17, 1980, we got cable, and one of the channels we got was WPIX. Back then I remember them calling themselves TV-PIXXX (or something like that). My younger brother was 7 at the time, and WPIX was his favorite channel; when he got home from school he went straight to that channel. I even mentioned in on some Easter Hunt cards I made for him a few years later. My brother died in 1994 and WPIX always reminds me of him. Although most of the memories on here were "pre-us", there were a few good memories in here. Thank you.

Boy, that sure brought back memories for me, especially the kid's shows from the early Sixties. I watched everything on a black and white TV until I was 16. It was fun to watch this nostalgic compilation, about 90% of it was very familiar to me. My childhood was so unbelievably different from kids of today, but I guess every generation can say that, eh?
