Border Patrol faces gunfire amid crackdown on drug and human trafficking near Rio Grande

Governor Greg Abbott’s announcement that the Texas Department of Public Safety will work with Homeland Security to arrest and deport illegal immigrants who already have arrest warrants came one day after Border Patrol agents received gunfire from suspected cartel members across the border, near Rio Grande City.
“Obviously it puts a dent in the drug trade and the human trafficking trade, and so that's where we get some pushback from these cartel-related organizations," said Chris Cabrera, Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council. "And so they'll try and shoot at us. Get us out of the area. Try and scare us away."
