I wish this channel continues to make this kind of stories/videos. It looks like they have changed their format! As usual great story and video, perfect combination! This channel deserves more subscribers probably they would if they continued with this format.

My family came from Yorkshire to Canada, almost 250 years ago. We still preserve many of the old family recipes. This video is a good reminder, as well.

Breath taking scenery. So nice to listen to people who recognize their good fortune in where they live, the ability to work hard at what they love and to see people who take a healthy pride, not arrogance, in what they do so well. Wish I lived there or had the opportunity to walk in that lovely garden or sit at her table or watch her create in her kitchen.

The secret to the best yorkshire pudding, is in keeping all the ingredients at room temp, As I taught my children, set the eggs and milk on the counter the morning before cooking, so they warm up to room air. And remind them, Yorkshire pudding is afraid of being cold. The hot drippings need to be spitting hot, the mix needs to be room temperature.

kim lightfoot my mother used to put the tins and bacon fat in the oven to make them screaming hot. Also she would whirr the batter then let it sit until we needed it. Then again for a minute and straight into the tins.

I'm a bit surprised that these people do not at all speak in the manner of the dales farmers in James Herriot's famous "All Creatures Great and Small" book series. I'm an American of Yorkshire descent.

@hogwashmcturnip8930 4 жыл бұрын
That is because they are not true Yorkshire people. Her mother made an attempt but failed. My uncle was a miner, a True Yorkshire working class man and he did not speak like this. They are middle class Southerners with vague links to Yorkshire playing at it.

I watched the whole series mostly for the food, especially having lived in Germany, Holland, New Zealand and Cornwall over the years made me look back and re-discover things I miss. But the way all this has been filmed is a show of what you can do in the country when you are really rich... Pretty much all episodes are being represented by people that are very well off and it looks very surreal to me. A little bit simpler food and hard grafting country folk would have made things realistic and more appealing for people to watch.
@therealtoni
@therealtoni 7 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting comment. I was wondering how all these folk could make a living but I did not think that they were all well-off necessarily. My thought was that someone was working or had a nice pension. However; I do enjoy the scenery and the culture and the history very much!

I beg to disagree-I've seen a number of the shows in this series where people are scrambling, trying many different avenues to make a living. Some of them don't look wealthy AT ALL. To name specifically just a few: Northern Ireland (kelp) and Macedonia, not to mention the show on Cuba where the cane cutters were obviously quite poor.
@CFinch360

Yes. English food is better! French is abysmal. I say that as someone who has eaten regional food across Europe and French is the worst I have had the misfortune to eat. Yet they have conned us into thinking it is good! Best I have ever eaten? Turkish! And they are only kind of half European. Lol

Obviously this family are Yorkshire "stock" - probably the mine owners from the past century, not true Yorkshire people. They also make something like a snobs sausage roll and try to call it traditional Yorkshire food - I have never seen this as a Yorkshire food in 55 years. After watching this episode, that comes from an area near me, I now no longer believe any of the recipes depicted in this entire series. People in Germany, France and Italy must be doing the same as me...WTF is that? never seen that before!

Richard Graham I’ve noticed a lot of fusion cooking on this shoW. I really love the Korean Taco fusion showing up in the US. I came up with a rice dish that uses jasmine rice, lime and zest, corn, cilantro and toasted sesame oil. It started out Central American and evolved to something Asian.

Richard Graham, help me understand. Yorkshire stock = mine owners were not native Yorkshire folk? I'm guessing this means the mines were owned by outsiders and employed the locals to run them. Is that accurate? Thanks.

...omg...take a lesson fromThumper's mother. She is a woman with imagination who cooks beautifully and takes joy in preparing and crafting her meals. Anyone can prepare the same old, same old day in and day out. And that is fine also. Some people eat to live and take no joy in what they eat, so long as they eat something. To call her food 'snobbish' because it's not traditional is mean spirited. It's those with innovation who will keep Yorkshire or any place else on the map.

I was really enjoying this series until I realized (expressed in this and other videos) that there is a real sexist bent on most of these. The "girls"and their mums make the food and the men run the farm, Maybe I just missed it, but where are the videos of the men who cook for their families and the women who run the farm or the business?
@nusaibahibraheem8183
@nusaibahibraheem8183 5 жыл бұрын
That's mostly how it is in these series, however there have been some women that run the farms and go for fishing, and there were definitely some husbands that cooked

There are several. Try the Alentejo one and the Northern Irish one, where the womem are running the farms and out at sea while their brothers and sons are doing the cooking. Please don't get all teenage 'feminist' Men and women have always matched and in good relationships people work together in unacknowledged partnerships. Because it does not need to be said A strong woman does not need to bleat about 'roles.' Just be. Men flock to women who just Are like moths to a flame. They like a woman who is not faking. Lots of men hate make up. They find lipstick disgusting. My father used to say it was like kissing a chip pan! He said that red nails looked like the woman had dipped her fingers in pigs blood! So just remember that you need to do things because You want to, not to conform to anyone else. Their image of you may not be the one you hope. If you are just your bare naked self, you never have to worry. They get the real deal and they like it or take a hike
