Title sequences from Wogan. BBC-1’s thrice weekly talk show from the master of chat. Also includes his preamble with the audience prior to the first broadcast in 1985. The clip features Felix Bowness who did the warm up for many BBCtv Light Entertainment programmes.

I never watched any of Wogan's TV shows. And yet Wogan was one of those special TV personalities that was always in the background of my life and brought a smile to my face.

Wow - it is nearly 3 years since Sir Terry passed away. I'll never forget how warm, charming and just funny he was. A true original on radio or TV. RIP Sir Terry

It's amazing how the show managed to have three distinct theme tunes that all somehow sounded like the same tune, even though they weren't.

Didn't realize that the original sequence varied to reflect dark evenings and light evenings. And the studio lighting, also. Nice little touch. Great music too, on that particular intro.

He made it look so easy. I'm trying to think of all the chat show hosts over the years in the UK and US and I really can't think of anyone else who put the guests and audience at such ease, other than Des O'Connor, who was another very warm personality.

Thanks for putting this montage together. This was ALWAYS on in our house 😂. As a person interested in synthesizers and electronic music production, I can hear how the various theme tunes made use of, and kept pace with the technology of the time.

There was a more brassy version of Stoneham's theme introduced in late 1990 over the 1989 titles, which lasted until the move to Television Centre in July 1991.

I remember when it was introduced as an early evening show in 1985, twice a week iirc. Part of a revamp with Eastenders making its debut in the same week. He had an easy going charm, like Des O'Connor who someone else mentioned, that is in such contrast to so many talk show hosts now.
