For some reason the first and second Dr, Who intros are my favorite even though it's black and white ... to be honest i never really watched the show hardly except for the intro ... there must've been reruns in the 70s because i remember seeing it on TV when i was a young kid ... for the longest time the color versions didn't look like color because we still had a B+W TV! Craig Ferguson did a Dr. Who tribute on the late late show and despite it being fairly corny the sound of the music itself was done very well especially when you compare it to the original themes!

My late aunt; Judith Byfield (6th September 1951 - 20th May 1989) played the part of Angela Clifford in Time-Flight which was the seventh and final serial of the 19th season. It broadcast from the 22nd to 30th March 1982. Whilst Time Flight isn’t the best serial, I feel immensely proud to have a family connection to the franchise. She also appeared in Bergerac (1981) & also Wuthering Heights (1978). Also, her husband appeared in the BBC Radio adaptation of The Lord of The Rings. He played the Black Rider who utters the line ‘Shire. Baggins’ as well as playing Beregond. Last year I spoke with Brian Sibley about this & he recalled working with my uncle.

For me, Patrick Troughton's intro is the best. The way the feedback (if that's what it is) peels outward to reveal a smiling yet enigmatic Doctor's face along with the introduction of a fuller sound with spangles and rippling effects make this title sequence the best for me.Though some of the nineteen seventies versions with the split screen effects were close.

Nothing is more evocative of absolute, abject terror than the sound of Doc 4's theme at 3:22 coming on the TV when I was seven years old when my mom would watch Dr. Who on WGBH out of Boston in the early '80s. Seeing Tom Baker's floating head on the screen and hearing that viscerally horrific music would set me to running and hiding instantly... but I would always come back to sneak a peek to see a Dalek or two! When I got older, my favorite version of the song would be Pink Floyd's, naught but a short tease of it in a live performance of their song One of These Days, but that scorching bassline always makes me explode in goosebumps

They rehash and remix the same part of the theme for a majority of the openings, but I think the opening at 1:47 is when we get more of the expanded theme. It’s very briefly heard in an opening before that, but it’s fading away. It’s then more in the forefront of the TV movie version you like. Don’t consider myself a fan, but know what I like and enjoy, and I do enjoy the premise and word of Dr Who.

Gotta say my favourites are the Trial of a Time Lord (second Sixth Doctor theme), the seventh doctor, nuwho season 4 and the 50th anniversary season. I love all the little Easter eggs in the 50th anniversary titles, little bits of every theme and every Doctor in there. And of course the return of THE FACE! A Tom Baker intro is missing - the green-tinted intro for the Ark in Space story. The title sequence for Part One was tinted green as an experiment but was not repeated for subsequent episodes. The title sequence would stay constant for the next six years. The Ark in Space was recorded in-studio in October and November 1974. The sets for this story were re-used for Revenge of the Cybermen, partially set on Space Station Nerva at an earlier time.
