It's not just that Shogakukan is embracing woke politics and the AI usually gets fed woke programming, it's also that getting rid of the TRANSLATION phase of the release does not actually have an impact on the LOCALIZATION phase other than, perhaps, fewer localizers having work (which means that the ones who do retain jobs have MORE influence in the industry). Like Katrina has gone on the record saying that most of the localizers in the industry don't speak a lick of Japanese. They are given a translation to check and tweak to fit the needs of the project (in a perfect world this would mean capturing character voice and nuance and making a line that sounds good and is accurate to the translation while remaining timed to the animation or in a manga fitting comfortably inside the speech bubble). By removing the human translator and feeding the text into a MTL model that only removes the phase of the translation where the translator has eyes on it and also that means that the translator won't be able to sort of "pre-filter" for things that a localizer wouldn't catch (the word "偽善者" is my personal pet peeve) and also if the localizer comes to one particular conclusion but isn't sure if that would actually work for the line, they don't even have the option of double checking with the translator to ask about what precisely the Japanese is saying.

@@marcogenovesi8570 it can lead to bigger wins, but there is just as good of a chance that this just cuts out the translators and leaves the editors, the people who do the most damage. seven seas (just as an example) had real translators, but had failed YA writers come in after the translation process and edit the actual translations (sometimes into wildly out of pocket bullshit, like turning a crossdressing boy into a trans girl). a translation AI wouldn't fix their issue.

DEI, most likely. Someone had to check a box, and hiring localizers to change the original writing to be more politically acceptable for ""modern audiences"" so it's as inoffensive and pandering to gullible trend-hoppers (AKA tourists, which are unfortunately the most numerous in most media fields) as possible is one of those boxes. Most ""Localizers"" in current year are just DEI hires. Just look at how much they seethe when being called that, but are unable to outright deny it. Just like every other DEI hire position.

It's simple, localization doesn't pay much so good localizers are unlikely to spend their time with anime, but people that wish to push a message into things are willing to take the low pay for that motive. So the well is poisoned due to people not watching dubs before these clowns got to them, sub elitism caused this at its core.

ignore the idiots; these people likely have connections they are abusing for their jobs. i am guessing people like katrina are actually just editors (as in an actual translator gives them an actual translation and they butcher it), so they probably got started doing some uninteresting editing gig for some random website, made a 'friend' or sucked someone off, and used that new connection to move closer to editing something vaguely interesting. repeat until they ended up in localization. no idea why they stay though, they clearly hate what and who they are involved with
