Theres just something deliciously retro 80's 90's about Wolf Alice that completely hooks me. It's not derivative. They are definitely their own thing but I keep finding hints and flavors of alternative/indie/new wave/ethereal dark wave.....a la Cocteau Twins....or maybe in another song a bit of This Mortal Coil or This Ascension. Here in Sad Boy with those floating lyrics there's even a touch of Julie Cruise I think. In any case, Wolf Alice definitely have my feet planted in 2024 but my head always seems to drift a bit back to being 20-something in the alternative dance clubs in Southern California. What a wonderful moment it was to be young and alive!!!
