WOLF HERRING FUN

The weather was pretty average this morning and with a 20 knot morning breeze and a good bit of swell rolling through i didn't have much of a chance to fish the flats so instead got stuck into a few good Wolf Herring to keep for Spanish baits. They are great fun on lures and when you find them in a few numbers you can expect alot of hookups and drops only to be hit instantly again. Thanks for watching. Cheers

I speared one yesterday and didn't know what it was. Probably the slimiest fish I've ever handled. So slick I couldn't even hold it by the tail in the water.

Hahaha yeah it was a pain. I shortened the lead a bit to much and even after adjusting it the wind kept blowing it shut. Iv used it as a sail with the wind behind me before and its pretty strong. I should pimp it out and put a gas strut on it lol. Cheers Seane

Do you get Wolfherring at Fraser Island? Going up in September and would like to get some for bait.

Im not to sure Sean. Im pretty sure they are found all along the east coast but as for where to get them around Fraser i have no idea. I know a lot of the independent fishing tackle and bait shops have them for sale and mostly used for trolling baits for Mackerel. Could always ring around and ask if they have any in or if they know of any likely locations to catch some in the area. Most tackle shops are pretty good and dont mind pointing you in the right direction. Sorry i couldn't help or answer your question mate.

I believe in some asian markets you can get Wolf Herring so i guess you can eat them. I imagine they would have alot of fine bones though. Might go alright butterflied and smoked.

We in India Eat it , It's taste so good if you know how to removed it's fine bones.
