TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!! Joe Johnston did an excellent job on the movie. Anthony Hopkins 'WOLFY LUNATIC' turn at the end was interesting and diabolical at the same time. In fact, that movie stays true to it's gothic, mythic and foggy atmosphere that the WOLF MAN should be attributed to. - James D. Watkins, artistic director of PHOENIX PRODUCTIONS.

What made me angry, and I’ll say it again: Leigh and Universal tried to *make us the fans feel stupid for being upset at HHN* and blatantly tried to say “That’s not the finished product.” I saw the movie, and lo and behold, that was the design PLUS maybe 20% more hair. Then you add in the unbelievable casting of the wife who’s 8-9 years younger. You have the already predictable story of the father being the first werewolf, and no additional lore to help it because Leigh wanted to keep it “grounded”. And everyone keeps bringing up The Fly, and UPGRADE, and the Invisible Man. Enough. 3 good movies doesn’t excuse this misfire. I enjoy Upgrade. I love the Fly. As a fan of both, this didn’t make me happy in any way.

I think a lot of the blowback from this one can be attributed to the expectations created by the marketing material. The trailer and the posters etc lead you to believe it'll be a traditional werewolf story (I don't differentiate between 'werewolf' and 'wolf man' in that sense), and this movie bears no resemblance to one. I think it's important to note, Universal approached Whannell about this movie, he wasn't all that hyped about it. I think that comes across in the story.

I enjoyed the Wolf Man. Saw it twice and enjoyed it more. Funny thing is it gave me another opinion on the Beast Within which at first thought was terrible. My wife and I spoke in length about the dynamic of the characters relationship in Wolf Man. The sad part was her saying how much she loved her husband, but he couldn't understand her. The main lead was fantastic. The perspective as a wolf was amazing. So trippy. He had elements of his father and would catch himself sometimes. He was a good man. Loved it.

The movie right now seems to be getting way more negative reception, which I don't really understand. I watched it Friday night & highly enjoyed it. The actors, setting, pacing, tension building, all very well done. My only real complaint was I would have liked more creativity with the monster design, it was too human looking even after the full transformation. I do think The Wolfman from 2010 was better, but that was really a different kind of film.

@DrumdumsOfficial I agree with that, the new film did its own thing & that was good. That was interesting, but then it cut to 30 years later.

I’m just glad they didn’t make Wolf Man an overdone product of the CGI machine. I enjoyed the movie and I really liked when you said “When someone turns into a person you no longer recognize”. This was excellent! You bring up a good point. We’ve all had to cut ties with someone we can no longer deal with. It’s painful because you try to “fix” and revert them, to no avail. That’s why this movie is so relatable. They tapped in to something we can all understand. Another awesome review from you!

I give it a quarter moon howling Boooooo! I liked some aspects of the lead guy arch of he’s just a stay at home Dad demoralized by his wife being the bread winner so the traditional roles are reversed but as soon as they crashed the natural protector survival instincts kick in and he takes control. Agree the opening was the best sequence to set up the film but too predictable once the wolfman was introduced as to who it was. The fact that there was no closure with any of the characters with their lost or infected loved ones was depressing af especially when theirs time to make it unlike some zombie movies where they turn almost instantly so their really is no means for good byes. Also they tried to tie a bow on it at the end but that too felt underwhelming I wish they would have gotten to the cabin had time to hike paying homage to the opening for a sec the Dad show the beautiful view then after all the craziness they can circle back with out the Dad so they can at least have that lasting moment as a positive memory of the the Dad. There’s more gripes but off top just a few issues.

The movie was decent but is there really anything memorable here and is this going to be remembered in 6 months. I don't think so, it's just a watchable movie released in January. One big thing that annoyed me was why would the husband bring his wife and kid out to the farm when he knew something was up, even his father was scared and went missing.

So in my expectations nowadays for me coming into films like this one is a kilogram, like very little. Thanks for the spoiler warning for this who have not seen Wolf Man yet. I'm more in the reality making the design of the creature and dealing with a family, small but Whannel's direction works everytime. Seeing this in IMAX was definitely had the bass feel going into this. My reaction coming out is that they do a very good job with their costume designs and make-up artist work for the werewolf design. Is slow burning but it works, this is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING like WEREWOLVES from a month ago at all. This is a film that does characters development in a smart way, the connection between a father and a daughter during the slowly transformation is stunning that he knows who she and the wife is and trying to make that werewolf kinda like a wolf dog more protective and while the transformation is on going the werewolf on him is they wanted to kill the werewolf but in reality is that killing the husband that turned to a werewolf and could get arrested and face some jailtime. I never seen 2010's The Wolfman but Ive heard is different and very underrated. Sorry I write so much. I feel like I could do this as my living.

My expectations to remaking a movie is to remake THAT movie... Not a different one. The invisible man just remade "enough" staring J-Lo and the wolf man remade "The Fly" with Jeff GoldBlum. One of the great things about the 2003 TCM (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) is that it retold the 1974 story. Because that's the story it's trying to tell. A happy go lucky guy gets cursed becomes Mopey and wants to self delete, before he harms others but he can't no matter how hard he tries.... Shouldn't be a hard thing to pull off with the budget these guys get. (You already have the 1941 movie for a blueprint. Shouldn't be hard)

I'm not against exploring a broken family for a horror movie. I get the idea of this being a family that's losing connection. That said, that wasn't what the trailers sold me on. I came here to see a Wolf Man and personally, I think it would've hit home ALOT more if this family, stuck together and had heathy chemistry only for the werewolf infection to tear them apart.

I really enjoyed the first half. The opening felt like The X-Files to me; the music, the setting… But then there wasn’t enough character or story development. It felt rushed. Julia Garner didn’t feel like a mom, there was no chemistry between her and Christopher Abbott either. I’m from Oregon and there’s no valley that looks like that here, nor would they get to central Oregon from the border as fast as they did (it’s at least 3 hours). Then I saw that it was filmed in New Zealand!! The city scenes felt more like NYC than SF, so I was confused at first when they talked about going “up” to Oregon. I will say I thought it was cool to see from his perspective as he was changing into the werewolf, that was interesting and disturbing. Can’t think of another movie that I’ve ever seen do that. The ending felt very rushed, even though I was looking forward to it being over! 5/10 for me.

There was a large majority of people who talked down on Invisible Man for being a new take. Now even more people sing its praises. With this one it was lose/lose in a way. Had it been a direct copy of the Universal Monster people would have said Blumhouse went the cheap way again and just ripped off a classic, Leigh once again took a classic story and put a "modern" spin on it and its hated on for being nothing like the classic. People will find something to complain and be up in arms with no matter what. Personally I loved it because like Invisible Man, the "wolf man'" wasnt even the biggest point of the movie. To me it was about a man trying to protect his family at any and all costs even if he has to protect them from the monster he is becoming.

I'm on the fence with this one. Being a dad there were a few moments where I was genuinely surprised how much it resonated with me. Plus there were some pretty tense moments and I liked the creature design (only for the "other" creature though). I enjoyed it but I think it works much better as a family drama/survival movie with a werewolf as the catalyst than it does as a reboot of The Wolf Man. Also, I see what they were going for but wasn't a fan of the final design. For the other werewolf? Yeah I kinda dig it. For the actual Blake wolf man? No. After his transformation, it was hard to tell how much of a threat there actually was. He was pursuing his family but never seemed totally out of control, even when he had them cornered (multiple times). Kinda diluted the tension for me. Also doesn't help it was sorely lacking in the "cool monster kills" department lol I understand that's not the kind of movie they were going for, so fair enough. But still....

I also think the female leads in this and the Fly got very different timescales for any arc they might have, but agree you can have moments in a 1 day story length that works better that what was here.

The problem with this movie is not in the design of the monster, but in the way the message of the picture is presented. They also did not explain to us why a city journalist suddenly knows how to use a walkie-talkie, why her husband's father became what he became. As a viewer, I have no sympathy for any of the characters, instead of Lawrence in the 2010 picture . What should I say about the wife and daughter acting? It seems to me that if a monster was tearing them apart, they would look at it with stone faces. At least the recent werewolves were funny, even if they were immensely stupid, and this is just a boring movie with a couple of good ideas. It's a pity that the Wolfman of the 10th year was so underestimated.

I loved Wolf Man I'm going to go see it a second time today and the reception that Wolf Man is getting from critics and some horror fans reminds me of the reception the 2010 The Wolfman got , I don't think the 2010 The Wolfman is that bad at all and I don't think the new 2025 Wolf Man movie is that bad either, I've always loved the 2010 The Wolfman movie I think this movie is awesome and I've always thought this movie was very unfairly bashed by critics and some horror fans when this first came out and throughout the 15 years since this was released and again it's funny because now the Leigh Whannell 2025 Wolf Man is going through the same thing this movie went through it's getting in my opinion very unfairly bashed by some horror fans and especially critics and I'm just thinking wow history is really repeating itself 😅😂😂idk maybe modern Hollywood just have a difficult time getting The Wolfman right in people's eyes or maybe people's expectations are too high with The Wolfman and people just want different things when it comes to The Wolfman idk

Can I also add that everything is a slow burn now. Can we just get on with it already. I'm not saying every film has to go 90mph, but the reason I like 80s horror is because the plot actually moved.

Film is subjective mate, everyone will have their own opinion, thats kinda what keeps everything interesting. Personally I liked the film, it's far from perfect, but using The Fly as inspiration and treating the infection as a disease was gnarly and I really liked that aspect. Sadly the character development wasn't super strong, so a lot of the drama fell flat! I've seen it twice now and I enjoyed it both times.

In all honesty, I wish I was watching "The Wolf Man" from 1941. Say what you want about it being generations behind us, and how Lon Chaney's character in that was a bit of a peeping Tom but at least we followed him, and he became the monster, he was allowed to suffer. The Wolf Man is a gothic tragedy, and that movie will always hit home for me.

So, is the transformation due to a virus? I understand that it's due to a fungus, but even if it's a fungus, they do not explain the transformation. If that were the case, I would have changed the story and it would have been about a kind of mutagen created by a kind of hallucinogenic fungus but with the particularity that it transforms you into a half-beast and to do so it required the 🩸 of an animal, in this case the 🩸 of a wolf. And that it only appears in the fall and winter seasons, since those seasons are perfect for him to hunt. This based on the legends of the Wendigo (In Ginger Snaps Back: The Begenning, they used this concept despite dealing with Werewolves, since they are almost the same species and it is not the Wendigo that many think with the head or skull in the shape of a deer). And that Blake's dad was a ranger who has been working for a long time and has heard reports about wild attacks, disappearances of some campers and other rangers and a strange figure lurking in the woods. Which makes him overprotective and rude to his son since he doesn't do it out of malice but out of fear and concern. I would add that his Dad died because of a stranger who was infected by the same mutagen and that he goes to his father's funeral, unless he shows some empathy or some kind of emotional conflict for the loss of his father and his relationship he had with him. And when they are in the cabin (which is his dad's), at the moment he is feeling the symptoms, Blake goes out to investigate and there is a feeling of tension and he goes to an unexplored cave and in it he finds old relics of a Shaman ritual and some cave paintings of men turning into Werewolves. Then he hears the howl, he runs straight to his house with suspenseful music and an adrenaline atmosphere. And that's when he realizes that what killed his father was a Werewolf and that he's now turning into one. Then, before the moment when he almost turns into a Werewolf and the other attacks him, he goes to his father's room looking at old photos, sees a tape recorder and listens to his father with his last report and words. Saying that he already found where the creature is and that he's going to kill him, and explains that this thing is like one of those stories of forest rangers who have seen or heard strange and terrifying things, and that it's one of these. And he explains everything about the legend of the Werewolf in these woods and how it relates to rituals and a mutagenic fungus. And in one of the recordings he apologizes to his son for having pushed him away but that it was for his own good and that he loves him. That would be the changes he would make to the movie and give it more background.

Most people basically wanted more of a werewolf and wanted it to be a big slasher spectacle. It was a smaller, self contained story that tried to have a message about past traumas and how the main character didn't want to turn into someone his daughter feared, only to eventually become a monster. Conceptually that's a good movie, but I don't think they really stuck the landing. I'm in the minority and thought the design was cool. NO not the Universal Studios costume design which was a scrapped concept. I liked the fact that the Wolf Man was basically 70% man, 30% wolf. It's more a virus than a curse. If it were more wolf, it would look too exotic, too beautiful in that usual Primal Werewolf trope we are used to. This design was more of a sickness, and honestly pretty creepy in a lot of shots. I did like turning the Wolf Man trope on its head...the transformation had nothing to do with a full moon, and you don't turn back into a man during the daylight...you're ALWAYS the Wolf Man.

My only expectation was, "Please, don't let the creature be that white-haired hobo that was promoted," as even Leigh Whannell himself was displeased. What we got was thankfully not that, but more along the lines of Jack Nicholson's Wolf, or Ginger Snaps; I ultimately found it interesting. I suppose the relationship between the characters feeling more off than intended, to me anyway, as well as some of the dialogue is what rubbed me wrong, yet I was still glad I saw this.

Soooo, took my teenaged son and my brother to see Nosferatu when it came out, and I was super-hyped up because of all the SUPER-positive reviews. No. Just no. Some reviewer said it was the best horror movie ever made. Um, what??? No. No, no, no. My brother fell asleep, and my son hated it. Myself, I felt completely let down and, like Gary Busey said in Silver Bullet, "A very familiar feeling is beginning to come over me. I'm beginning to feel like a horse's ass." I guess what I was expecting was a darker and more twisted version of Bram Stoker's Dracula (a cinematic masterpiece I fell in love with as a teenager), but this was not it. This was NOT IT. (Gladiator reference ;) Now, I just got home last night from taking my son to see Wolf Man. And yeah, it got good reviews before release, which got my hopes up, but, since release, I've been seeing more bad reviews--from some people on here I very much respect, by the way. Therefore, my expectations were low. Is it a great film? No, not really. But I have to be honest, I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than Nosferatu! So did my son. It was ok. Better than I expected. And, yeah, I'd watch it again. At home, of course. Cannot say the same for Nosferatu. Maybe? I mean never say never, right? But I would be surprised. Shocked, even. And there is something that ties these two films together, in my humble opinion as a lifelong cinephile and horror movie freak and geek, other than they're both contemporary takes--or, at least, in Nosferatu's case a currently made take--on older stories, and that's their respective approaches to their source materials, use and misuse. I'm not sure if this is going to make sense, but, to me, they seem like counterintuitive twins. One does what the other should do, and vice versa. Nosferatu would have been so much better if it had not been such a slavish retelling of the original story and had been embellished, expanded, and dressed up, made with a more personal touch other than authenticity (Jesus, that freakin' moustache, man, uuuggghhh! All I could see was the freakin' porn-stache!), and Wolf Man would have been so much better had it gone the other way more than a little bit, giving us a wolfman who looked more like a man turned wolf or a wolf turned man and less like a balding wild man of the forest (you would think becoming a wolf creature would add more hair to your body, not make ya' bald ;) Too much hair on the upper lip on one and not enough hair everywhere else on the other? Too much melodramatic emoting on one side, and a disconcerting, troubling, and downright upsetting lack of emotion on the other? Yep. Check. Anyways, thank you man for a great video :) I enjoyed it very much, and I'm on your side on this one. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend, and take care!

What also doesn't help is the other werewolf. Putting aside that we now have to deal with two wolf men with same lousy design, it takes away from the drama of the husband's transformation because now we have no choice but to watch more filler of running and hiding rather than the horror seeing the father turning against his family.

I also had trouble connecting to this family, which is sad because these are not bad actors, and try their best to support this watered-down "Wolf Man" script. In fact, I kind of wonder if this was originally meant to be a single father and his two daughters because the actress playing the wife looks old enough to be a teenager. Even acts like one in some scenes.
