IDK about you guys but my buddy Andy owns roughly a 1000 acres of land in WI & he has had a wolf pack on his property for decades.... He goes walking at night on the trails & he says the wolves will circle around him at one point to see who it is & then they go about their business........ I think he's an old crazy man but,, 20 years now that i know of & he's never had an incident.... But he will tell you with a dead face - Never let your dogs off the leash, They will kill your dog in a second just like they do with coyotes........

Very bold, agree. Possibly a nursing den nearby? Protecting pups? If the pack wanted Henry for dinner, he would have been mobbed pretty quickly & much more aggressively. This scene seems more like a territorial stand & warning. Thankfully they had a truck to dive into.

Been hunting awhile, I know for a fact around me Coyotes any Coydogs will come to gun shots understanding there is likely a free meal. I'd assume wolf's do the same, I don't suspect even if his dog had a wolf collar on it would have servived being hunted by a wolf let alone a pack. Good thing it wasn't a moose his dog found, the more wolf's an bear's the better chronic wasting disease needs controlling.

@@Deeznutz002 Wow, what a great point. Hunters clean & divide carcasses on-site, leaving behind lots of scraps for scavengers. It never occurred to me that the sound of a gunshot is like the ring of a dinner bell for coyotes. And probably wolves too, yes. But guessing they're much smarter - they know to watch & wait until all human danger is gone. Regardless, coyotes are too aggressive for my liking - have had them sneak up stairs to attack pets sleeping on my outside deck in broad daylight. Along with careless neighbors who chained their dogs in their yards & left for work, only to return to find them ripped to pieces. 😣 Or, the coyotes leaving nothing behind but their pet's bl**dy collar. I have zero soft or sentimental feelings for coyotes anymore. They're cunning & often dangerous predators - don't do dumb stuff to draw them in.

They see dogs as a threat in their territory. They will leave humans alone most of the time.

@@RealSteveCawley Not really. They see dogs as a wolf from another territory. They obviously kill another wolf if it tries to go into there territory, and a dog is no acception. They just don't eat dogs, they usually leave the dead animal for scavenger animals.

It might be true that predators are programmed to kill predators that resemble them, and thus represent possible competition. We've long known that wolves can be so intent on killing dogs that they ignore humans (like here, where Bailey even fired a shotgun near a wolf). Wolves will often kill coyotes. Someone commented below that the wolves might have been protecting a den in this encounter. But this meeting happened in fall, by which time wolves will not be denning much. The emphasis in fall is on finding food for the growing family that is the basis of a wolf pack. It's good that this encounter ended as it did. When wolves engage with dogs, it often ends otherwise.

I was hoping that WCCO would have included a clip of a wolf pack eating a deer alive from the haunches forward as they do. If you're curious how wolves feel about dogs, take a peek at this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKjTp31plpyko8k (I don't think the dog is chained to a wolf's den by the way....LOL)

So in WI - cowardly hunters use dogs to hunt bears and wolves. Training dogs to hunt bears often results in dogs being slaughtered by wolves as the dogs have wandered into their territory. He’s lucky - it could have been a lot worse.

Anyone who is letting their dog run around in an area where Wolves are present should expect this. They could have killed that dog anytime they wanted to.

“Experienced” guide and outdoorsman goes to the woods (near the International Wolf Conservation Centre) the forest, let’s his dog go running through the woods off leash, that encounters wolf who chases it back to the hunter with kids. Wolves being wolves want to kill competition the dog. If it was just him and his kids he wouldn’t have seen a wolf. Put your dog on a leash in the woods.

Duh moron, that’s why the word “hunter” is in my response. Doesn’t matter if he’s grouse hunting or rabbit hunting, leave the dog at home in wolf territory. Maybe you should go to the city to learn to read.

I get why people hate wolves. But it's just because they are uneducated. People treat wild animals as trophies and when they attack once that gives them the right to be killed. These creatures are exibiting natural(yet uncommon) tendensies to try to protect there territory from unwanted predators. Wolf species have been almost dropped to extinction in many places, and there is evidence that they help keep the ecosystem safe by keeping the deer and elk population rounded. It's cruel to hunt a wild animal just to have taxidermy on them so you can have a nice picture of cold blooded murder, as the taxidermy eventually rots and your forced to throw it out. Wolves benefit the ecosystem and without them(and many other wild animals) the ecosystem dies and we lose biodiversity, which basically means we lose our planet. Don't kill wildlife for sport. Period,
