I have played pokemon since the very first games. my first ever starter was bulbasaur. The last game i played was Black and white. i cant exactly remember why I never played the subsequent games, perhaps I thought i had gotten too old, or that "its pokemon its always the same". I picked up scarlet strictly for the nostalgia factor and thought hey, it's 2022 lets see how far theyve come along. I played with some friends who are into competitive and when I heard that people actually TRAIN their pokemon. My mind was literally blown. I had absolutely NO IDEA this game went so much deeper than just lvling up your mon and slaping on the strong moves only. I always thought the game was EZ MODE. I was so wrong. And now a WHOLE new side of the game has been introduced to me, 25 years later. I have been binge watching your videos trying to catch up on all this information. I beat my friend in a battle 3-2 . I have fallen down a very deep pokemon hole and im really not mad bout it.

The ending, I think the final room specifically was designed to mimic Tera Raid Dens, which makes sense since the machine is leveraging the Terastal phenomena Also I liked how the second round goes "You are challenged by AI Sada" *glitching and then briefly* "AI Sada has no intention of fighting anymore" *more glitching* "You are challenged by the PPP" The brief glimpse there of just seeing that the AI is still rejecting this course, a course its programming should have bound it to, being built off Sada's desires, very cool, helps make the whole sequence really stick that the original Sada was so hellbent on this course, a course she would see happen even in death, that she can't even trust a clone of herself to stick to it and would have further defenses

You know when I imagined an evil Professor, I didn't ever think they'd add on CHILD NEGLECT AND ABANDONMENT to that list of things awful about them. Like one walks out right when Arven is born, the other is killed saving not their child but the BOX ART LEGENDARY. Not even Lusamine was that cold towards her children. These people are just despicable. The damn AI cared more for Arven than his own parents. And bro got zero closure. I'm shocked GameFreak had the guts to make a serious story, but its more than welcome.

“One walked out right when Arven was born, and the other was killed by saving the box art legendary” can you elaborate a bit? I played Violet, but are there any differences with Sada in Scarlet?
@TheRibottoStudios
@TheRibottoStudios 2 жыл бұрын
@@twosoup3252 it differs depending on game. In Violet, my game, Sada walks out and Turo just calls her not even kidding "THAT WOMAN." and he's the one who dies. In Scarlet, Turo is the one who walks out and Sada dies. But both are his parents if that makes sense. One walking out is why you only have the one professor per game.
@bigchillin4216
@bigchillin4216 2 жыл бұрын
@@twosoup3252 Huge difference imo. The Violet version seemed very tame when I watched vids on KZbin. But playing scarlet it was SUPER dark and jarring, and that's largely due to: - The past paradox pokemon being more ferocious in nature. - Looking at Koraidon vs Miraidon you actually believe that the feral Koraidon smacked yours up. It looks more intimidating and imposing than Miraidon does. - The fact that Sada is the mom/woman (Moms walking out is far less cliche) - The fact Sada has a cave woman Neanderthal look to her while becoming a glitchy robot during the plot twist. - Sada even being a robot/AI when the whole game was "past focused" was a huge dichotomy compared to Violet in the first place. - How dedicated she was to her work that she was willing to dismiss her child and the region for what SHE cared about rather than the wellbeing of EVERYONE. I know this was in both games, but again she's a mom. She carried Arven for 9 months, popped him out, and said forget this kid......and also forget this region. - ALSO I didn't know this until I watch the Violet videos, but during the Paradise protection protocol bit the time machine in Scarlet turns completely red so it has the feel of actual emergency and danger while the Violet time machine turning purple does not bring that same sense of urgency. They got the tones completely off between the two games honestly lol. I'm sorry 😂

This game touches on surprisingly deep concept. Between child neglect with arven and suicide with brassias. I was legitimately surprised with how well this game was actually written, especially for a pokemon game which has notoriously been lacking in good characters or story. Watching the opening cutscene now for like the 5th time lmao, I kinda cant help but wonder if the ridemon was trying to get to the lighthouse but passed out before it got there. The camera kinda focuses on it for a second before it gets weak and swerves to the left. But based off some of Arvens lines its possible that the professor used to bring it there when Arven was younger, before they decided it was too risky and stopped bringing it out of area zero. So maybe ridemon was trying to flee back to a place it saw as safe but couldnt make it there in time.

Yeah Arven said that Koraidon/Miraidon lived with them at the lighthouse, but at some point it attacked some wild Pokémon which spooked people living nearby. So his parent went to Area Zero with it and never came back. Which is why Arven has a grudge on the ridemon, because he sees it as the reason he lost his only parent

The thing with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is that they even made the battles mechanically interesting. The Elite Four was like "oh shit the little kid is using steel types!" and they bait you into preparing for normal types when you see Larry, and then when you send in a fighting type to hit his normals you get whacked with a flying move. Nika's typing is as ambiguous as her gender lol. And then the final battles put you in increasingly uncomfortable positions, fighting pokemon you've never seen, and then hammering home the power of tera typing in the final battle with Koraidon/Miraidon. I think I enjoyed it just as much as Wolfey did here. Funny how it sucks you into the exploration too, where suddenly you're like "I shouldn't be here." I challenged the psychic gym super early and barely survived the trainer fights.

Ngl I actually predicted Poppy and Hassel's specializations. Poppy wears a huge key on a necklace, which to me made me think of Klefki, and her whole color scheme is rather monochrome. Hassel meanwhile, if you go to his class, you will know he has a Gible. And he does wear a little cape. That said, Larry caught me off guard, though I didn't have any Fighting types during my run of the Elite Four so I was okay. I had a heads-up for Rika's type going into it tho (my bf had a lot of Steel types so he complained about fighting her lol) - well, tbf he didn't say her name, just that the first one you fight is a Ground-type specialist.

I may be late but hearing Wolfeys takes on the game itself be so outside of every other critique I've ever heard from youtubers who've played it, while not only including but hyping up the same things everyone thinks is good about the game made my little baby gamer heart (who had the exact same thoughts as him while researching and playing the game) so happy, like- to hear this man, who is so involved with this game mode as a sport, a game, be so lightheartedly enthusiastic about a children's game being a children's game and defending it as such, while STILL having as good a time as everyone else playing it? Mind-blowing and I love to see it.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet is the first game I've played since Sun/Moon and honestly, it's probably the best one I've played since I was a teenager. It's just been so much fun & the box legendaries being a part of the story from the beginning is so nice, you actually form a bond with them and grow to love them, rather than just catching them at the end of the story. I just hope GF gives us the ability to switch to Battle Form automatically rather than having to do it manually every time you stop riding it.

bout an hour in and i find your takes on the game's quality quite refreshing. generally i feel sympathetic to people who say the quality of this game is unacceptable for how big a franchise this is. but i also feel like it raises big questions about how we measure "quality" in a game. since it's undeniable that the development of this game requires a massive amount of effort, and that the end product is incredibly fun and compelling.

personally, the glitches, framerate, and exploits, while annoying, are not the nail in the coffin for me. it's the crashes. if it didn't have the issues with crashing (cost me 2+ whole hours of team building), i would say it gets a pass, but that is my line in the sand.
@thatrandom_canadian
@thatrandom_canadian Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure quality is generally measured in stable framerate on consistent hardware, lack of bugs (especially whether or not its prone to crashing), the content of the game, and graphics relative to the hardware and style of the game. Pokémon S/V has a good core, but the graphics are a 50/50 split of decent and "it looked better on the 3DS", the game gets probably an average of 13 FPS, and there are plenty of bugs. Also the overall value of the franchise plays a big part in it. Quality for an indie title has a much lower bar than a mainline entry in probably the most profitable media franchise in the world.
@---jt5wg
@---jt5wg Жыл бұрын
@@vla1ne This was also my issue. I had consistent crashes after an hour or so of play on four different occasions. I also had issues where my controllers would suddenly no longer have their inputs read by the game in handheld mode with joy cons attached. I would have to manually shut down my switch because I could not even get back to the home menu as it was usually my right controller that the game would stop responding to. I contacted support and they said this wasn't happening to anyone else, and didn't know how to fix it, they just to me to go through menus slow and to stop playing every hour and close out the game. The support people were very nice, but this to me is a mark of a big issue that the game is actually breaking if I can't even play it.

I really appreciate your take on the game overall vs the graphics/performance. I agree that the game is super fun, and is the best pokemon game to date. People said Skyrim was the best game ever despite it's glitches because the gameplay was so engaging. This is the same way. It doesn't excuse the poor performance, and I do think the company should be lambasted for that, but that doesn't mean that the game isn't really really fun.

"I think there is no room for nuance in the discussion about pokemon" Couldn't agree more Wolfy, ever since it first came out, people had to either have a take that was "this is the worst" or "this is the best" and discussions otherwise were really annoying. The negative takes got the most noitce in the first few days, which lead to a lot of my friends who arent pokemon fans, but are casual gamers, to take a negative tone away, which is what they tell me when I mention I've been playing. The week after release, it got a lot of positive comments the other way, but even so, the nuance was missing. But thats cause algorithms will push forward content that gets engagement, and usually you have to be on an extreme to get engagement.
