I remember my parents wondering why I was rooting so hard for Canada. I’m from Pittsburgh and Mario Lemieux meant so much to me I wanted this so bad for him. That no touch assist was one of the best assists I’ve ever seen

To this day the best hockey IQ play ive ever seen. Mario was the shit

@@billmitchell6575 would counter with that famous 1987 Canada vs. Russia goal in the Canada Cup (now World Cup) where Gretzky elected to skate ahead rather than chase the puck, expecting a teammate to pass to him, which he then passed onto Mario who scored. But yeah, that was pretty nifty.

This means so much to me, not just from a national pride perspective, but from a personal one. My everlasting memory of this game involves me and my late father watching this game together on the couch in the living room of our old house in Vancouver. He wasn't even born when Canada last won the gold (born in 1958), so for the both of us, it was a moment of overwhelming joy that we'd witnessed a once in a lifetime moment and that we saw it together.

I was watching in my house in Poco and when we won the entire block was cheering outside the front doors and on the street Oh Canada

just love how Cole could increase pitch / intensity at a moment's notice and drop down again when the moment had passed

gotta say ... Mike Richter was huge in this game. Big save after big save. just couldn't keep the Canadians at bay forever

As a Ranger fan, if 1994 were John Vanbiesbrouck’s Stanley Cup, instead of Mike Richter’s we would’ve beaten Canada in that 2002 Gold Medal Final, 3-2 with a Brett Hull overtime goal because unlike Richter, Beezer would’ve made those big stops that were desperately needed in that 2-2 tie.

Canada have 650000 hockey players today! USA have 500000 hockey players today! Russia have only under 100000 hockey players today! Finland have 73000 hockey players today! Sweden have 65000 Hockey players today! This is the big reason Canada winning they have 7-10 times More players than Russia or Sweden or Finland!
