Kleiner fun fact über die deutsche Sprache. Falls sich einer fragt, warum „…schaume“ auf „Träume“ gereimt wird: Zur Zeit der Entstehung des Originalgedichts, wurden „eu“ und „äu“ noch wie geschrieben ausgesprochen und nicht wie heutzutage „oi“.

I may be overthinking, but this goes surprisingly well with Germany after WW1. The star symbolizes the long-sought peace. The waves represent the defeated and humiliated people; thus, the waves sing a song so sad no man has ever imagined. They wish the German empire was back, their old days of glory, as They sing a tune of long-lost happiness. The river of Rhine sings of alpine glaciers as the occupied Rhineland wishes for a savior: The Austrian painter. The Fisher men represent the other countries as they watch Germany get engulfed in extremism. The dead are woken up by this song and join the Frei Korps and later the Sturmabteilung.
