Thanks man for posting this, i need a voltage regulator for my Outlander and was wondering why the Wolftech price is half of every other manufacturer. Quality, that's why

I had a nightmare wih my yamaha. Had to tear it apart twice because that stator crank position sensor did not work

Hi Jim really enjoy your videos!! I own a 2011 Yamaha Venture Lite presently no spark in one cylinder. You seem to have worked extensively on yours. The ECU was replaced once and am wondering could faulty ECU cause no spark in only one cyl or if faulty would you have any spark? In at a dealer now and they are having troubles. Could it also be stator or wire going to a plug coil. Any idea would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I would definitely start with a plug wire. Most of them are rmoveable and thread out of the coil/cdi unit. In most systems the cdi unit or CPU sees the flywheel pass the pickup and that triggers the cycle to fire both or more spark plugs. The problem is definitely at the outer edge of the system. If the coils are combined in one unit..likely it's a coil or cdi whatever u have. It is possible (not knowing the wiring ) that one of the circuits to a primary side coil could have a bad connection. There should be a connector from the ecu to the coil/cdi that has probably 3 wires ..one per coil and a common ground or positive. I would check those for connection. Hard to diagnose not being hands on but sounds like a coil/cdi/wire issue. Be sure something isn't grounded on one side.

Ate the coils separate or one unit. One side of the coils should be hot and then the the side either grounded or released from ground to produce the spark. Stator generally feeds the voltage regulator directly with 3 or 4 wires. The regulator feeds everything else. Stator wont prevent a spark as your battery being g charged is enough to power everything until it runs down

@@ontariooutdoorsman Thank you Jim for you promt response! Really appreciate your thoughts as I may need to do a little work on this unit myself. The dealership it is at will be getting busy with bikes so may not have much time for a sled. Happy to have come across your channel. You have very good knowledge and clear understanding this comes thru in your explanations!!

So just to clarify...the stator itself has large wires that feed the voltage regulator...but as part of the wiring harness to some/many engines is included the 2 wire crankshaft position sensor. That will have 2 smaller wires and connect to the computer. It is what tells the computer when the crankshaft passes top dead center so the computer knows when to fire the plugs. Hence...generally if one plug is firing that tells you the sensor is working and the computer is receiving the signal to fire. So that should help troubleshoot why one is firing and one isn't. Good luck

Okay Jim from what you have explained it does not sound like anything to substantial is not functioning. Hopefully we can find a bad wire or connector. Your comments and insight today is much appreciated. Thank you
